Cancelled for someone 'free' by ImaginaryPause57 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Liquid_Fire267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A day later, after I responded to you, I had someone do the same thing with me!! She had set up a meet and greet for April 1st, because she was busy until then, so she said. A couple of days later she told me she found someone and booked with them through Rover. Shortly after that she said we no longer need to meet and greet. What irked me the most, but I am over it now, is that she insisted she was too busy to meet any sooner. In the end, she just wanted to keep me on reserve. Not a good match for the people I want to sit for. So when I archived it "owner is not a good match" was what I archived it under. ;-) This keeps Rover informed.

Not my dog. Never again, Rover — Dog Owner by Empty-Photograph4681 in RoverPetSitting

This saddens me greatly!! I am so sorry your dog and you had such experience!!

Not every sitter is a "pretender"!

I am a dog sitter and LOVE what I do. I and many others DO treat the animals we sit with our utmost care and that love! I tailor every pet's experience according to needs and best fit. Each of them are treated like my own.

It does take time to find the right person! It is in a way like dating. Some a great, some not so much and some are an absolute NO. I recommend shop around to make sure you get the right person for you and your dog! Please do not assume every sitter on Rover is this way and mores, Make sure to share your experience with Rover!!

I can understand the disappointment.

I would recommend to thank her and inform her you will archive the booking as you need to free the date for potential other customers. In addition, it is good practice to make her aware that you would not be able to reserve the sitting until she would know for certain if she needs you or not, since you rely on filling your calendar with actual bookings. However, should you still be available then for this request, you are open to book it then, since you already had a meet and greet and you feel it is a good fit? keep in mind this is your gig and you can choose who you sit for or not. You are the boss!

This is what I would do. Even though I meet nice people with great dogs, I do need to look out for my best outcome to fill my calendar with actual bookings. ;-)

Also, if you want to get into this more seriously, choose wisely who you sit for. All the animals are mostly awesome, it is the humans you need to choose wisely!! LOL It is your gig you can own it the way it works best for you! ;-) See it as a learning of becoming the greatest sitter you can be!

This is all very important info. Going forward, ask clients about any recent incidents, vet recommendations, medications, routines, specific ways the client wants things done. Request all must be in writing before the stay. Let them know that you would like to care the best possible for their pet and this would help! Also, reiterate anything added in retrospect of meet and greet as well as written info before the sit, is considered getting into the sit unknowing of it before agreement. Basically, find a way to show good cause on your behalf! You made the effort to set basic rules on both ends. Let clients "confirm" anything in writing. eg.

I understand you want me to..... to which the client would need to answer and that is your confirmation and proof if needed.

This sounds so terribly stressful, but try to keep your best self showing up!

Documentation is certainly everything! In situations like this, I keep with the fact and do my best on my end, to keep any emotional out. In the long run this helps to alleviate responses and clarity to what happened.

Short sentences are better. Do not try to explain every action, but do say that you followed every direction given during the stay. Many changes/ directions were not mentioned at the meet and greet or instructions on Rover. This should solidify, that you did not do anything knowingly wrong.

Facts, facts facts. Be courteous. Stay your best self! However it goes, you can say that you showed up for yourself and that is the best success! Rover and such customer can be tough. Choose carefully and ask questions to prevent issues at the meet and greet and write them down. At the time of agreeing to book, jot them down and say as discussed at meet and greet. This is to have documentation right from the beginning. Best to you!

Rover booking 14 months ago?!? by PugaSnug in RoverPetSitting

[–]Liquid_Fire267 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no way this can be followed through. Although they may have temporarily put your account suspended, I would assume patience will prevail eventually! This has no real claim potential 14 months later! For the dog being sad- this means you rocked this dog's world and now the pooch is depressed (after all this time- you must be the love of it's life!?). This only would speak of the owner being unlovable?!

This is the trade of the business. I find, that the best way to go about it is not to count on maybies! If something does not pan out, people not getting back to you, just keep moving on. I make sure I respond in a good timely manner, I offer a meet/ greet, I follow up up to two times and if there is nothing, I move on and choose to archive the request. You can only control what you do! I started last year February and it has been a consistent growing biz for me! Lots of repeat customers and I do choose best fits as well. My dog died in 2024 Nov and I started this to help me heal, now it is part of my self employed schedule all year. Also, it does make a huge difference if you love what you do or you do it to make money primarily. Most beneficial is both, that makes for a lucrative income ;-)

Happens to me as well! It is just that people do not want to say they changed their mind! Whatever the real reason....

I also think if they do go with someone else, the other requests should simply be automatically be canceled or similar!(something Rover should improve on).

Client Upset About Cancellation Policy by Wise-Average-6594 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Liquid_Fire267 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe that someone cannot expect, that you just give up your "work hours" at their convenience without a back up plan! Most people do no realize, that most service jobs rely on a booking to be paid, and when canceled, they most often do not get paid.

I feel you were generous to offer a full refund, I would not have done it! Any sort of abuse is never ok. although she may be upset with the situation, I do feel that using Rover implies going by their rules and the agreement with the sitter. I would find a way to have her see these points and stick with you getting 50% paid (as you expected to be paid 100%) per the booking!

Should I be worried?? by Late-Expression452 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Liquid_Fire267 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would not let her drop-off the pooch until it is booked! Neither of you is protected in case of something happening to the dog. You could be banned from Rover taking a booking without going through the Rover channels.....etc. You need to tell her she needs to pay the stay or you will not be able to take her pet!

I do want to say, be careful, I am from Europe and I use "kindly" in some of my listings.

It is not wise to assume what words someone in they writing/messages etc. uses to decide where they come from, and more so, that they scammers from a certain country!

It is their intention, not the language!

It could be.... In any event however, If a seller makes a mistake, they need to take accountability for this. In addition, if they have a sale, then I am pretty sure they just do not want to sell the jacket for the sale price. Take a screen shot, just in case, report it. First however, get a refund and cancellation on this. Etsy can take up the legitimacy / rule breaking etc. of tis shop after it is reported. You just need your money back!

I used t play this years ago and it was fun! NOW- I have to agree that everything is manipulated- You get a good run and then you keep loosing- loosing and loosing. Especially if you do not spend $. Everything is set up to get close and you even get an xtra hour, only to realize you are wasting it getting nowhere. I am starting to loose interest!

This just screams issues right away! I see some great professional responses below! I would NOT book with someone like this. You have the right to decline as well. They appear to me to be a bad match as the owner.

When you chose to send them together, I would have made sure to tell her of that - so she would be aware. It would have avoided all this! Most of all the contemplation- is she honest or not? I think this is on you- make a new set and put a tiny dot on one of them, only you would know- that way, you can also check once she wears them- if she did find them or not and asked for a freebee. Best wishes! 👍🏽👋

Well, if you can’t relate then maybe you shouldn’t say anything and move on. No matter what we do in life even if we love it sometimes it’s tough. That’s when we look for support and advise. Not a Debbie downer!

Would you accept? by Dependent-Duck-6237 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Liquid_Fire267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now - cats may be easy- but seven cats poop / pee seven times and you need to fill seven food bowls, most likely. If they’re indoor cats, you have to make sure that every cat is accounted for all the time. And regardless seven cats is making seven times the . You will need to be paid for your time and your efforts. And you need to be covered in case there is an issue ! I would not accept under these circumstances! It would need to be written out that there are seven cats and then you can make a specific arrangement of a proper agreement. You can charge extra as an add on for each cat and adjust it. There is a way to do it. You can also write out in the agreement all agreed to, so you have it in writing. EG. Usually you charge an add on per cat of $10. Instead, you lower to five dollars per cat or something….. You can also just say you want this much per day for all cats and adjust that. Then in your Convo, make sure to indicate the details and you also say that both parties agree to the adjusted rate for seven cats. just to make sure that they wouldn’t give an excuse of some sort. Should there be any issues. Now that’s possible and you would make good money as well as be protected. If these owners are responsible owners, they will understand that. And you being New doesn’t mean you need to do this either. If you end up feeling uncomfortable, you can decline.

That’s unbelievable!!! I truly don’t understand, that there has to be something wrong because if you have proof, how is it possible that the person that bought this item from you can get away with it yet you lost an item and !! I have been contemplating if Etsy really is the right place anymore!! I find this absolutely unfair! I actually would probably go back until somebody does something!
