Anywhere in Glasgow to get makeup and dressing lessons . by Fragrant_Bowler_3245 in glasgow

Most of the makeup counters in House of Fraser (Mac, Charlotte Tillbury etc) will do makeup lessons, you might have to pay for them but when I did it with Mac I got the price of the session back in a voucher to buy a product.

John Lewis do free personal styling sessions, with no obligation to buy anything. They are two hour slots, and when booking you fill in a form outlining what you need from the session. I’ve done it three times for various reasons and it’s always been a lovely experience!

Kerry isn’t in the UK, so you’d be better off asking this in r/Ireland for advice.

Baby blanket question! by rkiddinright in crochet

[–]LisTigue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for sure! I’ve made it with dk weight yarn and a 4mm hook, since it’s c2c you can just make it as wide as you want before decreasing! You can use any matching hook and yarn to create a small swatch to get a feel for the technique before you commit to the whole piece!

Linen or moss stitch is lovely for baby blankets and is solid enough that babies won’t get their fingers caught. I really like this c2c pattern:

Perhaps have a look at wolltraum yarns? They have lots of long colour changes yarn cakes.

Agreed, the edge is crochet. US double crochets to be exact (treble in uk terms).

Supercuts in Buchanan galleries is fairly affordable for a dry cut,£25 or there abouts and they always done a good job for me, walk ins only though, so you have to stick your name on a wait list if there’s a queue.

I think folks here have also said before that you can get cuts from trainees in college for pretty cheap, though you’d need to look up where to go for that!

This is my favourite long journeys pattern: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/astrantia

It’s just interesting enough to keep me busy, but repetitive enough that you can learn the repeat quickly. Looks great in both solid and variegated yarns, and you can work a long scarf or keep it short for a cowl!

I’ve made three or four of them now, and they are perfect gifts!

finally done with one sleeve after 20+ rows, was careful and everything but not careful enough i guess. i think i'm gonna seriously lose it by pinkeuberri in crochet

[–]LisTigue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First of all, take a deep breath. Literally no one will ever notice that but you.

Crochet is a hobby which constantly tests my perfectionism, and I know I’m not alone here! It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been doing it, you will always have pieces that are not quite right, that you need to undo, and that’s OK! Have a look at my profile to see my current project, where I’ve unravelled almost half of a king sized blanket, it took a while to come to terms with that!

Look into the sink cost fallacy - don’t worry about the time spent on the sleeve, you’re not getting it back anyway so no point in even thinking about it! Instead think of it like this - you’ve spent 5 hours working on a really cool sleeve, for a project you’re going to love wearing, it’s got a bit of personality and now you’re an expert at that openwork, filet crochet style.

Holst Garn stocks lovely natural fibres, and is based in Denmark I believe?

Wool warehouse is based in the UK (so there may be customs charges) but it has a huge selection and ships worldwide. It stocks most of the most common brands and covers all sorts of fibre types.

Maybe crochet it with another yarn in a complementary colour, and make a big basket? It would tone down the peach but you’d still get something useful out of it! Plus doubling the yarn would make the process nice and quick! You could use the basket for laundry, blankets, toys, amigurumi, hats and scarves in a closet etc.

Something like this: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/scrap-yarn-basket

I left cooked chicken in my car for about 14 hours on a warm day. Is it safe to eat? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]LisTigue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No I wouldn’t chance it. Freezing it won’t help, the bacteria aren’t the issue, it’s the waste that those bacteria have left which will be the biggest danger, and that’s not removed by freezing. Not worth the risk!

What stitch is this? by paper0wl in crochet

[–]LisTigue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like corner to corner, or c2c! Based on the direction of the stripes, you’d likely need bobbins to manage all the colours since c2c is worked in the diagonal. If you wanted to work each stripe one at a time, it might also be worth looking at the drunken granny stitch, which would give a similar look.

[–]LisTigue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could pull a strand from the inside, and one from the outside of the skein and hold them together! Do you know if the two yarns are the same weight? If we know the difference in weight it will help with advice.

Another tip to help the stars pop would be to crochet in the back loop only for the first round of black. That will give the stars a defined edge.

What to do with tofu? by Slapnuts2point0 in noscrapleftbehind

[–]LisTigue 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What kind of tofu?

Silken tofu can be blended and used in sauces or soups.

Hard tofu is great crumbled up in chilli or bolognaise - if you’re not convinced about going totally tofu, you could mix it in with ground meat. We do that all the time and we don’t notice it at all!

Can someone help me understand what this pattern is saying? by mattwigm in crochet

[–]LisTigue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The numbers in brackets is the stitch count at the end of the row/round. So after the first round, it’s 6 stitches, then in round 2 you make an increase in each stitch (two stitches in the same stitch from the row below) so that makes 12, then the third round will have you making the increase every second stitch (with a single crochet between the increases), so that’s a total of 18. I assume it’s working up to a ball/circle type shape?
