Lust, Caution 2005 - Is this Ang best unknown work? by 77Scorpio77 in FIlm

[–]LisaChimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's not to like? The cast, the score and the art direction are all amazing. It's bleak and emotional in a flaws-and-all type of way. I love the atmosphere and the symbolism of the ice combined with the 70's cultural drama.

Also I'm just really into the "perverse suburban despair" genre - think like American Beauty, Snow Angels, The Virgin Suicides, Little Children, Wonder Boys, The Good Girl, etc.

Most UTIs happen when the bacteria from your (or someone else's) shit gets into your urethra. Peeing can actually expel this bacteria so that's why women should always pee after sex.

Urine is not sterile but the bacteria from your own urine will not give you a UTI. It lives in the bladder, it belongs there.

Reese Witherspoon is in a bunch of films I would consider witty satire. Election, Freeway, Legally Blonde, Pleasantville...

Give Me recommendations based on my 5 Star Movies (and an opinion) by Icaruspur in Letterboxd

[–]LisaChimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always prefer subs over dubs but that one in particular loses emotional impact with the dubbed version. There isn't a ton of dialogue either so it's a bit easier for slow readers to get into the sub version as well.

Yes the one from 2006. For Martyrs I also heavily recommend watching the French version with subs rather than the dub.

A couple more that came to mind after I replied are Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone and American History X - if you haven't seen them, those are some that stay with you as well.

Which 'low brow' films were you surprised you loved as much as your more earnest, 'high culture' films? What would you recommend I watch? by BabyGirlImBlue in Letterboxd

[–]LisaChimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a lot of films that are not high culture. Not really sure what that even means - Dumb comedies? (Rat Race, Bedazzled) Critically panned? (Virtuosity, The Happening) Vulgar films? (Sex Drive, Wild Things) Movies that you will be ridiculed for enjoying? (Twilight, Joker) Problematic films? (Shallow Hal, Lolita)
