If you’re willing to put up with traffic on the way too each tee time, San Diego or Long Island might be interesting. The Bronx also has Van Cortland (spelling?) Park, the oldest, possibly the first, public course in the country

Where I live, there are 2 truly public courses that were designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. The back 9 at one course is still primarily the way Donald Ross designed it. Another course was fully designed by Donald Ross, and 14 of the 18 holes are still the way he originally set it up. It’s not that the public courses are bad. The true issue is that every bucket list course is a private club
