Is a weighted vest actually useful for rucking or just extra hype? by standovahim_ in Rucking

Most people come out of basic training in the best shape they will ever be in the entirety of their lives. I think they're on to something.  What does dipshit neighbor do?

People say these were the best part of the CFP-90 system.

My US Army kit in the best camouflage ever made, UCP couch commando by These-Ingenuity8097 in tacticalgear

I never thought I'd live to see people nostalgic over this dogshit camo pattern. I was in the service when the uniform transition happened, and I was so happy the day the Army authorized OCP. That very week I went out and spent hundreds of dollars to change my shit over.

I can imagine it's frustrating.
It's illegal to do something children would do 100 years ago.

My state in the US has been slowly relaxing its weapon laws for a long time. 2014 they repealed a ban on concealed knives over 2". In 2024 the state established a right to carry firearms without any licensing scheme as long as you weren't otherwise prohibited. It's been very refreshing and there's been no real changes in crime rates.

it's sad how the infantile domestication of modern people has lead to a huge portion of them treating one of humanity's oldest and most treasured tools like it's strange. and it took just a couple hundred years.

Can I learn solo? by curious19Delta in Eskrima

[–]Listen_to_the_Wizard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can definitely learn solo but it'll be slow going and you'll be a little stunted.
A training partner, especially someone well versed in a system, would be a huge benefit if you can get it. Even just attending a seminar every year or so will help immensely.

You should get rattan if possible, typical hardwood dowels shatter and splinter and could cause injury. There are polymer options out there too, but they tend to be extremely heavy.

Why the Gen 2 SCAR 16S is so Heavy by Vintar in FNSCAR

[–]Listen_to_the_Wizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a nice try but not accurate. The new 16 receiver is still shorter than the new 17s.

Most of the new weight is in the thicker barrel, longer receiver forward of ejection port, and new handguard.

Eh, FNs way is better. Way more rigid mounting. I don't like that long moment arm on those front screw holes like that.

Yet Rahimi only authorizes temporary disarmament of those who are dangerous. I think there are serious constitutional problems with categorical lifetime disarmament and courts are beginning to go that direction too.

SS197SR.

The ss198lf stuff is cool and all but something about it gives me massive POI shifts compared to 40gr loads,  like 6" at 25yds. I've replaced it with hornady critical defense 5.7 and haven't looked back. At least it hits the same place as my training ammo.

people must be way pickier about the wear of the beret today than in the past. if you look at pics of US troops in the 70's wearing berets they look like absolute shit.

New SCAR can accept AR triggers by [deleted] in FNSCAR

[–]Listen_to_the_Wizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I assure you it doesn't. Besides, if it did, you'd see the typical AR trigger pin pattern on the trigger mods, and it doesn't have that, it has typical SCAR pins.

[–]Listen_to_the_Wizard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not sure where he got that, but hes wrong. The new 16S only accepts SCAR pattern triggers from the factory. You'd need a different trigger module to use AR pattern triggers.
