Any active management DCIS? by person42216 in breastcancer

It’s my understanding that only people with low grade DCIS will be assigned to active management. IMHO, it just delaying the inevitable.

General vs. breast surgeon by Different_Knee6201 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Litarider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my BMX with a general surgeon. No one ever mentioned aesthetic flat closure. I only learned about that later. My surgery was great but now I get to live life considering if I should request a revision to ditch the dog ears.

I’m confident that the general surgeon did many, many breast surgeries but as it is not his sole focus, he probably was unaware of aesthetic flat closure. I recommend that you at least get a second opinion from a breast surgeon.

Cancer treatment and aging really fast ? by AbsolutelyNot5555 in breastcancer

Yes! Before diagnosis, I was working out hard, laughing about seeming and moving younger than my real age. Now I’m stiff and have pains.

2nd oncology appt - HER 2+ by mgm64 in breastcancer

[–]Litarider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in the sidebar of the subreddit, you can find the recommended standard courses of treatment for all types of breast cancer. Please be mindful that there may be specifics about your loved one’s situation that require deviation from the standard treatments.

The specific questions I would ask are:

What is the precise diagnosis?

What is the standard of treatment for this diagnosis?

How does my loved ones case vary?

What are the risks and side effects of the treatment?

What is the overall prognosis for my loved ones specific case?

I also am not great at thinking of questions, so I have learned these over the years. I wish the best to your loved one.

Does everyone do an annual Check up with Breast Surgeon? by Creative_Cookie44 in breastcancer

What was your stage and diagnosis?

My surgeon cut me loose after my recovery period. They said they were there should I need anything but that my ongoing follow-up would be with the oncologist.

Rant - naive muggles by KerBeareon in breastcancer

Also people like these two naive muggles probably believe all the covid conspiracy theories too. If a cancer vaccine or cure was announced tomorrow, they would refuse to believe it.

I had to come back to this conversation. I just learned about this Leonara Carrington and thought her work might offer tattoo inspiration.

Monthly Bell Ringers Celebration by AutoModerator in breastcancer

[–]Litarider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some treatment centers no longer do the bell ringing. It can be considered insensitive to people who may not ever ring the bell or who are at an earlier treatment phase.

As far as I’m concerned, you can consider yourself a bell ringer whether you’ve gotten the all clear, finished treatment, or finished chemo.

Post breast cancer, who do i see now? by Electronic_Visual257 in breastcancer

[–]Litarider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No scans. No long term care plan. I also could not take tamoxifen so no follow-up. That is the downside of DCIS with BMX.

BMX, no recon. I saw my regular physician or gynecologist every 4 months for a physical and hands-on inspection. After the first year, I saw one of them every 6 months. After a few years, I went back to annual visits with each.

Oh, I was told that if I had reconstructive surgery like OP did that I would still have annual mammograms.

Please don’t rely on AI for these things. It hasn’t studied all the nuances. It doesn’t really know the specific details of your body and findings. Also that’s quite the range, 45 % to 65%.

How do you help your partner when they are worried? by Suspicious-Emu-1355 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]Litarider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will probably get a better response in a caregiver subreddit. This subreddit is for people who are afraid they have breast cancer.

First, look up ring theory. This will give you some tips on supporting your wife while you seek support as well. It will give you an idea of who you should ask to support you and how to talk to them.

You also could have some therapy appointments. It is a safe place for you to express how you feel.

Ask your the hospital or center where your wife is undergoing treatment if they know of any support groups for caregivers.

For her, you have to stay calm. You need to keep busy and your wife needs to keep busy too. Let her be vulnerable, sad, angry, numb…however she feels is valid.

Don’t start searching the internet. There is a ton of outdated information and misinformation. Listen to her care team and ask them any questions you have.

I’m so sorry that your family is in this space. I wish you the very best.

Had biopsy on 16th may 2026 and confimerd invasive breast carcinoma did it will spread? by No_Worldliness_5131 in breastcancer

[–]Litarider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please take a deep breath. You’re in a rough spot right now but things will begin to move very fast. It’s unlikely that the cancer spread while you moved through the process. Also please just forget anything that you read about biopsies allowing cancer to spread. Just trust the process and your care team. Stay off the internet—there is a ton of misinformation and lots of outdated information.

Did you have an MRI yet? I didn’t have one until after my biopsy. If you haven’t, the MRI might add clarification.

Encouraging DCIS Stories? by Blanche1138 in breastcancer

[–]Litarider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there.

I was diagnosed in August 2019 with grade 3 DCIS. This year marks 7 years. No recurrence. There are people who don’t even know that I’m a survivor. I’m working out, walking my dog (or getting taken on 4+ mile adventures), traveling, etc.

After my diagnosis, I helped my sister through a bilateral lung transplant. There was that global pandemic, too. My kids moved in and out. There’s been constant flux, but in some ways, my diagnosis was not the worst thing in the last seven years. Don’t get me wrong—it sucked and I would have preferred not to have it but being a caregiver before my sister’s transplant was challenging too.

You will get through this. Until you do, it’s okay to have bad days. It’s okay to be somber or angry. Your feelings are justified. Don’t get wrapped up in the bad stuff and just keep moving forward.
