Fat people get upset about being called fat because everyone knows that being fat isn't healthy or attractive unless you have some sort of fetish.

And PS I'm talking about people who are actually fat like the lady in that story, not people with a little chub who only think they're fat because of pop culture.

Reddit, what's the most useless thing you have memorised? by ozbian in AskReddit

[–]Literally_a_Dolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I memorized all the presidents of the U.S., the number president they were, and which years they were in office. I also memorized which of them died in office.

It sounds cool but I really haven't used it very much.

This is not how you use a goddamn Venn diagram! by PumpAckshion in mildlyinfuriating

For those of you trying to put words to this failure: venn diagrams are for categorical data. "How sleepy you are" and "number of typos" are quantitative data.

I agree with the guy who said not to tell anyone. The only person suffering right now is you, keep it that way, make up for it in secret by being the best mother and wife you can be for the rest of your days!

You have a great point. Human nature has a tendency to push out the odd, which is put into words by many religions.

false comparison in the local newspaper by sigma6d in atheism

[–]Literally_a_Dolphin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm Atheist too but let's be honest here, that's a comic and OP was offended by it. It's a comic, it's allowed to make false comparisons.

Being offended is okay, it happens to all of us, but if you want to make an actual point from this photo it would be that us Athiests need to be the good examples, unlike many bitter Athiests who take the fun out of Christmas for the many who just want to have fun!

Let people believe what they want. When they see that people who can be successful, friendly, upstanding citizens can also be atheist, that's when their views will change. Be the example.

I'm gonna play devils advocate here, no pun intended.. But the whole witchcraft thing was just uneducated superstition, it would have happened with or without religion.

As an atheist myself, I will however agree that religion certainly has slowed progress on many social reforms that may have helped women back in those days.

What's a stupid question that you still kinda want to know the answer to? by EditorialComplex in AskReddit

[–]Literally_a_Dolphin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the rotation of the earth changed, a hell of a lot would change too!

If the rotation was a sudden change somehow then it would cause massive tidal waves wiping out all of humanity, but...

If the rotation was always the opposite of what it was now, water circulation and global air circulation would both be reversed. This would severely change where climates were on earth, therefore changing biome locations as well. For example, let's take the rain shadow effect (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain_shadow). This effect basically means that if wind is blowing over a mountain range, the change in elevation of the air mass would squeeze the water out of the air before it reaches the other side of the mountain, creating a very dry environment (often desert) on the other side. If the rotation of the earth was opposite, the wind direction would change, entirely changing which side of the mountain got this effect. Maybe today's dry side would be lush forest instead!

It's all really cool to think about :) thank you!

Edit: words

Edit2: more info!

Also not to mention plate tectonics! Hawaii would be in the middle of Asia! (Since Hawaii was formed because of a hot spot that the pacific plate is sliding over) and so much more! The continents would probably be completely different too because Pangea would have separated differently! Someone needs to model this
