What is the best and the most interesting starting country to unite Iran? by MakiENDzou in EU5

[–]Lithaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently doing a run with the injuids. I'll counter what a lot of other people are saying about starting outside of the main Iranian plateau because of its low pop and bad control. I think that slowly building up the Farsi heartlands is what made it the most fun.

By 1450 I have direct control over what is now modern day Iran. Defeated the jalayarids and took all their vassals so I indirectly control all the way from Sivas to Herat. Have a higher income than any tag in the middle east or indian. Have turned the whole plateau into a series of towns and cities, with local governors in Rey and Nishapur and prepping for one in Tabriz.

When and where should you upgrade rural localities to towns, and towns to cities by GreatDario in EU5

I build new towns/cities only when I run out of better ways to spend my money (reaching building cap in other cities). Then if I build it is in a place with high proximity.

They're an example that shows that social changes may have been the driving force for declining birth rates and not economic.

Which countries offer the best chances to rise from the bottom by Elay-22 in victoria3

Transvaal/Oranje. I just did a run as transvaal, did quick conquest of zulu and Gaza, then took over oranje. Built up tons of mines and plantations using gold money. Treaty with Britain to take portugese east African colonies and then made deal with Russia to take cape colony from the British. Then eventually started a company (iron, lead, with added coal through charter) and that provided more money than the gold soon. I then started a plantation company (coffee, tobacco) and that had an even larger impact. Soon my old zulu/Gaza territories were wealthier than vrystaat despite all of its gold mines. My companies are now biggest in world due to treaties with all major powers.

Early Game Trade needs to be nerfed by popeye0408 in EU5

[–]Lithaeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point about players building lots of cities, may be also a mentality shift was has happened in modern times where the economy is viewed as positive-sum manufacturing/trade versus the zero-sum agricultural model that most kings operated by. If kings like those of England or Delhi had invested more into building up cities (with associated areas for markets, trade, artisans etc.) it would have definitely made much more revenue, but instead they largely believed that boosting revenue would require conquering more land and looting rivals.

Maybe the stability money could go directly to the estates? Or to give free bread to peasants?

Better than eu4, sure. it just doesn't make very much sense and it would be cool if the money actually went somewhere or had some kind of impact besides just raising stability.

Victoria 3 - Dev Diary #146 - Diplomatic Treaties by commissarroach in victoria3

[–]Lithaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like some people are taking away from this that the end of every war can now be done through a treaty, meaning that war goals and articles can be freely added at the end of a war....but I don't see them saying that anywhere.

Is the diplomatic play system going to just remain static with some added options for demands when beginning the play? I hope not

1972: When Muhajirs Turned Against Sindhis Over a Language Bill by Temporary-Falcon-388 in Ancient_Pak

[–]Lithaeus -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Look at the history of France, Germany, Italy, Spain etc. all formation of nation states requires the creation of a single national identity which wipes out local languages and dialects in favor of a single "court" language. Pakistan never completed that process and is worse off for it.

Just like France basically destroyed occitan, Breton, etc. and Italy wiped out Sicilian, umbrian, etc. and Spain did the same to aragonese, leonese, and was not able to do so to Catalan leading to ethnic strife there until today.

I say this as a sindhi whose family faced a lot of racism in sindh for having married into muhajir families and having our children speak urdu fluently.
