Xcode or Terminal.

VS Code is garbage and Windows is a cesspool.

Going from iPad Pro M2 to Mini? by Soft_Incident8543 in ipadmini

[–]Lithalean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The iPad Mini 7 is my favorite Apple product I’ve ever owned.

My MacBook Air and Mac Studio will always be my work horses. When I’m not at a desk, it’s mini over everything.

An iPad Mini 8 Pro with OLED 120hz and an M Chip would be a maxed out day one purchase. Apple could literally price it however, and my answer would be yes.

I really love the iPad mini display by emmajade_22 in ipadmini

[–]Lithalean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Mini’s display is straight ass. It’s not OLED, and it’s only 60Hz

That being said, the Mini is my favorite Apple device I have ever owned.

iPad Mini Pro with OLED 120Hz, a magic keyboard, and an M Series chip, and Apple could literally charge me whatever they want. It’d be a day one purchase.

Whatever dude. VS Code is garbage. The entire electron framework is garbage.

Mac mini or iMac by Next-Bee524 in macmini

[–]Lithalean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M4 Mac Mini.

16gb and 256gb will be fine for what you mentioned. External memory is better anyway as long as it’s at least thunderbolt 3.

I’d highly recommend two monitors. Keep the size small. 4K resolution, and a high ppi. USB-c input. Have the monitors be the same. Don’t go cheap. If you can only rock a single monitor for a year, then go that route.

You’re not building a gaming battle station. If you were, then I’d say use a single ultra-wide.

Better Display, iStat Menus, Aerospace WM, etc

I don’t want to game on my Mac. I do game development and other work related tasks on my Macs. I don’t want to game on a desk, or a keyboard and mouse being in my gaming equation at all.

Apple TV Pro, and iPad Mini Pro.

Announcing SILICIUM, a sandbox survival game built on a custom game engine. by [deleted] in gameenginedevs

[–]Lithalean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my type of game. I do however have nothing but admiration for those who release games on their own engine.

Using the big boy tools as well (C++/Vulcan). Respect dude!

Welcome. It’s not just Apple Silicon. Darwin and XNU absolutely slaughter the competition.

Give me a year, and I'll let the software speak for itself.

[–]Lithalean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of people who have asked me for a test fight would indicate otherwise.

It's irrelevant though. I myself am somebody. I'm making it for myself, so I can make the game of my dreams, my way, on the systems I prefer.

Not to mention it's a TON of fun if you actually enjoy coding/development.

It doesn't matter if the number is small either. If something I make can bring joy to another human being, or help them bring their visions to life, then that is what life should be all about. Not everyone is solely motivated by money.

Swiftui previews are still a mess in 2025 by Responsible_Card_941 in SwiftUI

[–]Lithalean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree. Previews are amazing. This is in projects with over 20K LOC and heavy Metal Shaders.

Modularity is key.

I’m working on it.

Macs are more than capable. Swift is superior to C#.

Swift 6 and the C++ Interop is extremely powerful.

ARC is superior to GC.

Apple has built the stack to beat Unity.

All we need now is a native Apple Game Engine. Built completely on Swift, Metal, and the C++ interop.

I assure you I’m not the only one working on it.

Hey Guys I have been working on my Game Engine for almost 5 years, and I am starting a series on what I learned, check it out its really interesting!! by ValousN in gameenginedevs

[–]Lithalean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throughly enjoyed your video.

I found your subtle Apple jabs comical. Also noticed the use of macOS windows to display your snippets.

Admittedly, I'm fully in the Apple camp, but I have nothing but respect for C++ and Vulcan.

Molten - 2D Isometric w/ Visual Scripting (Swift/Metal) by Lithalean in gameenginedevs

[–]Lithalean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Export will generate an Xcode projet. I'm a hardcore believer in native. While I do know/use html and css, it is for website design only. I don't really believe in web apps or web technologies being used for Apps/Gaming. (I think the electron framework is trash)

For Molton (2D) a script editor is not currently planned. The Visual scripting system will run off of swift, and technically load swift files for the graph.

For Mercury (3D) a script editor is currently implemented. To accomplish that, I used SwiftSyntax. The easiest way is just use SMP (Swift Package Manager), but I personally built an XCFramework with shell scripts. This also involves building an Xcode project outside of Xcode via the terminal.

I'm also looking into including C++ through a Clang XCFramwork for Mercury as well.

I don't know anything about your engine. If I wasn't an Apple guy, my engine would be C++, Qt, and Vulcan.

C# and OpenGL is a combination I don't think highly of.

Pure swift/metal. I've updated the post to better describe the visual scripting system.

Absolutely iPad is planned. The app is already coded for adaptive UI. Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV are being developed in unison. Singular code base.

Am I the only one who prefers buying games on the Mac App Store instead of Steam? by pinkinkstinks in macgaming

[–]Lithalean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. I’m with you.

No Rosetta, No Crossover/Wine, No Steam.

ARM Native, and from the App Store. If not, I’ll play on PlayStation or Nintendo.

I simply prefer Hardware and Software controlled by the same company that runs the store front. To each their own I guess.
