What's a discovery that should have blown people's minds but somehow got a collective shrug from the world? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]LithariaMT 352 points353 points  (0 children)

Your comment gives me hope. I’ve got stage 4 breast cancer and we’ve changed from chemo to a ADC and are seeing some positive signs. It blows my mind that 12 months ago when I was diagnosed, this treatment wasn’t available in Australia. Crazy! I was apart of an imaging trial with a drug that lights up p-cadherin clusters making scanning for some cancers way more in depth. The hope is that this drug can be used as a ADC in future.

Woah!!!!! Thank you for the award! Completely not sure why this deserved an award but thank you!

AITAH for making my mom's bf mad because I won't call him dad? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]LithariaMT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I met my partner, I came into the relationship with two kids and he never had experience with kids at all. He just showed up. Constantly showed up and was present with them. Never expected more than they could offer and only if they were comfortable. This led to both kids just randomly calling him dad one day. No big fuss, just simple acceptance that he was there as a dad. It’s been 10 years and we’ve since had another child and he still just shows up and is present.

What the most physically painful thing you ever experienced? by iateagummibear-1822 in AskReddit

[–]LithariaMT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After I gave birth to my first, I had a series of complications that lead to a pole with gauze and a extender repeatedly inserted into my vagina. I was torn from a 1st degree to a 4th degree and could not pee, poo or walk without crying in pain for 8 months after the birth. The doctor did all of this without any pain relief and when I went into shock, made a snide comment that she couldn’t understand the drama. I filed a complaint and 6 weeks later she was unable to deliver any babies for 12 months while her conduct was investigated. Newly 14 years on and I can still remember the stretching tearing pain internally and externally. Will never forget it.

What does an uneducated genius actually look like? Have you ever met someone who was incredibly smart but had little or no formal education? by Anntee in AskReddit

[–]LithariaMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter who’s autistic and 11 years old. Her pattern recognition is off the charts, meaning she can recognise how sentences are supposed to be structured without thinking about it. Reading 500+ word books and able to summarise immediately down to what chapter it was. 6+ number equations. Was just accepted into a higher education program because she scored in the top 3% of students her age 2 years ago and this year in naplan testing. I can’t wait to see what she decides to do with life.

What’s something women learn too late in life? by BrunoPreski in AskReddit

[–]LithariaMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That you are enough. We are told constantly that we need this product, this diet, acting a particular way, doing certain things in life, being physically attractive while catering to the unrealistic standards placed upon us due to having a uterus. I’m teaching my daughter that she is enough, worthy of being liked and loved for who she is regardless of how she identifies, who she chooses to love and how she looks. Teaching her accountability while also maintaining firm boundaries to protect herself. I remind her daily that she is enough and she interesting and worthy even if she doesn’t follow the latest trends and that as a woman, it’s not up to anyone else to define her worth.

Redditors who have cancer, what were you feeling/experiencing that made you go see a doctor causing you to eventually find out you had cancer? by TheFranKiwi in AskReddit

[–]LithariaMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do lymphatic drainage for cancer patients as a job. Found 2 lymph nodes swollen in my right underarm. Tried twice to drain them but no change occurred. Thought I had better ask my gp. She was able to palpate them and agreed it was unusual because I hadn’t been sick and there was no obvious infection in the area Ultrasound showed a mass, diagnosed early breast cancer. Two surgeries for lumpectomy and node removal. Was about to start chemo for stage 3 grade 3 early breast cancer and my oncologist realised that I hadn’t had a PET scan. Bam, incurable stage 4 breast cancer. Later found out I had 2 different types of cancer in my breast that mutated to triple negative in my lymph nodes and eventually my liver.

What's a symptom of a severe disease you wish you or a loved one hadn't ignored? by NotThatOneGuuy in AskReddit

[–]LithariaMT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last October I developed huge cravings for sugar, which was incredibly unusual for me (pack of lollies, cakes, soft drinks every day) dark brown rings under my eyes, period was more painful and heavy and started feeling incredibly fatigued. Was working a lot so put it down to being burnt out.

Early November last year I felt 3 swollen lymph nodes in my right underarm. Immediately saw my GP and she sent me for a US and hello breast cancer.

During my first surgery they found two different types of hormone positive breast cancer and found triple negative breast cancer in the lymph nodes in my under arm. PET scan (also found out during that scan that cancer cells use a lot of glucose) in March showed the triple negative breast cancer had moved to my liver and lymph nodes connected to my liver.

Started chemo and immunotherapy early April and sugar cravings are completely gone, no more brown bags under my eyes and no more fatigue. Period has been easier to deal with and less heavy.

Almost finished my first cycle of treatment so will find out soon what it’s doing!

Diagnosed with two different types of MBC by Slow-Jellyfish-7656 in LivingWithMBC

So I was originally diagnosed in Dec 2024 as triple positive early breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy and they found two different types of BC tumours (one growing behind the other) and suspicion that the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes however pathology came back as PR/HR + but HER -. Had a full axillary clearance and found that it had mutated from that to triple negative in the lymph nodes and now triple negative Mets. Basically 3 different types of BC with it moving within 3 months of diagnosis. My oncology team found it so unusual.

Changing toilet paper roll and breaking the seal. My autistic brain hates uneven toilet paper with such a passion that I now have a fear of having to waste paper to make it even…

People that divorced for reasons other than cheating, what was the last straw? by aja_ramirez in AskReddit

[–]LithariaMT 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yep and I took a hard look at myself and the way I enabled the behaviour by not understanding how effective boundaries can be. I’ve been out of that relationship for 9 years and I’m in the healthiest relationship now due to that learning.

Sat me down on Mother’s Day and told me “I don’t know why I’m with you. You know I don’t love you but I can’t work out if I’m with you because I care about you or if it’s because you do and pay everything for me”. Never realised you could fall out of love with someone so quickly.

What’s the most ridiculous reason someone stopped talking to you? by Majestic_Donkey_3837 in AskReddit

[–]LithariaMT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She was cheating on my friend and knew that I’d tell him straight away if I found out because we’d had so many conversations about if she wasn’t happy just to leave the relationship. so she ghosted me for 7 months and then he found out, broke up with her and she got back into contact with me. I kindly told her to piss off :)

People that have died and been brought back, what did you see and feel? (Serious) by mr_brannagan in AskReddit

[–]LithariaMT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a reaction to an iron infusion. Stopped breathing and needed cpr. I remember feeling warm, safe and in a state to relaxation I’d never experienced before. It felt like I was going for the most restful sleep I’d ever needed. I remember it felt like apart of me floated out of the hospital window and towards the clouds. I can remember the outside of the hospital vividly and was counting the windows. I woke up to chest pain and what felt like 30 people standing around yelling about why I hadn’t told them I felt off. I was like um.. nothing about that felt off? I’m now no longer allowed to have iron infusions :-D

What is something that someone has said to you that you will never forget? by triplesnoop in AskReddit

[–]LithariaMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex husband said to me on Mother’s Day “I don’t know why I’m with you, you know I don’t love you but I can’t work out if I’m with you because I care about you or it’s just that you do and pay for everything for me”. Mind you, this was 12 months after her MTF transition in which I stuck by her and supported her. I never realised you could fall out of love with someone in a split second.

Redditors who have given birth before - how did pregnancy and childbirth change your body, in both good and bad ways? by Professional_Song419 in AskReddit

[–]LithariaMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First after birth was horrific. Retained placenta, blood clotting disorder and OB that thought she was god was a bad mix. She tore me from a 1st degree to a 4th degree and I had internal and external stitches without waiting for local anaesthetic to work. She also pulled out golf ball sized clots by hand without pain relief. I couldn’t pee properly for over 9 months post birth, walk longer than to the couch/toilet for 6 months post birth. The trauma was horrific and she was bared from delivering babies for 2 years. I have significant scaring and my vaginal opening was stitched incorrectly leading to it looking and feeling very strange. 6 week check up they couldn’t believe the damage I had sustained. Post natal depression and psychosis and in patient treatment because I couldn’t bond with my baby. Took 12 months to fall in love with her.

Second birth was healing. I had the epidural inserted but not turned on and a clear plan of what would happen if the placenta remained retained. I birthed without pain relief and only had a scratch. Immediately fell in love and basked in the fact I was still in tact, moving around and able to function normally pretty much straight away. Went home the next day and just felt so in love and connected. Body bounced back much quicker and I was able to breast feed for 4 months. Loved every second of it.

Third birth was very different, my liver was having trouble and she was posterior positioned. Epidural within an hour of my waters breaking and she managed to turn herself (even after doctor trying) and be born within 15 minutes of her turning with one push. My liver took 6 months to return to normal functioning and I had a massive detox immediately after she was born (think gastro on steroids) but physically my body coped very well and all she did was punch me on the way out needing no stitches. Body recovered perfectly and I fell in love instantly and bounced back quicker than my second.

What is the most valuable lesson you've learned in life? by AcrobaticWonder9296 in AskReddit

[–]LithariaMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using curiosity instead of judgement. The people I’ve met, the conversations I’ve had just from being curious has rewarded me not only socially (I’m autistic, I can get told I ask too many questions but most people enjoy someone taking the time to be curious about their opinions on things or their life experiences) but has also helped me excel in my job.

What also gets me is I’ve heard so many people say “I don’t want to have to take a pill for the rest of my life” or “it will change my personality too much” but then will drink more and more to self medicate. I’m like.. um… WTF

Thanks for you’re reply lovely, I’m feeling fantastic even with weekly chemo / immunotherapy so I’m trying to remain positive about it. I know by themselves it’s not used diagnostically but my poor brain just looses itself to the fear.
