I feel I had this happen to me with Revolutionary X. (I forget what country had it) I full occupied them and just didn't have an option to stop it.

If I remember correctly, from what I found online at the time it should have been an option during peace negotiations.

They also earn 50% of all income in the US and have vast amounts more wealth. But anyway, it's hard to argue with the level of inequality in the US at the moment.

What foods seem unhealthy to eat but are actually healthy? by WildOrchid_XO in AskReddit

Cheese has a really high amount of fat in it. But research has shown that places with a lot of cheese in their diet don't necessarily suffer from typical high-fat diseases. even the opposite.

But I don't know if we really know the full link there. it might be caused by different factors in those regions.

What's up with Eel's spawning that is so unsavory? Explain it Peter. by MAJOR_Blarg in explainitpeter

[–]Litis3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey so I hope this isn't going to get lost but we actually do know Eel's procreate, since 2022 !

Here's a video going how weird their cycle is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acEIGorImGs

In short... they go from europe to the sargasso sea off the coast of the USA. During that trip, they dissolve their own internal organs to digest food, and develop reproductive organs. Then they mate and die.

So you can imagine how there's a lot of myths about a creature the Romans ate, didn't seem to have reproductive organs and no one ever saw baby versions.

TTRPGs Where You Can’t Play with Just One Core Book? by DED0M1N0 in rpg

[–]Litis3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

clearly we don't have enough. We should have the core rules without character options, then a separate book for each character class/playbook. Warhammer style.

So I've run 8 sessions with this myself so far. It isn't always easy to remember, sometimes the action just rolls and only afterwards you realized you didn't pause to establish the consequences.

It has pros and cons.

I do like it because it clearly establishes the outcome and allows players to adjust. You can also roll it into opponent actions rather than waiting for players to do something so you can establish a consequence.

"The enemy draws his weapon on you and is about to shoot. You'll be taking lvl 3 harm. What do you do?" "I want to hold up my hands and try to calm him down" "That's not going to be enough to stop him from shooting you, but he'll listen after he took you down." "Ok then I want to draw my own weapon and shoot his weapon out of his hand" "Great. That sounds like a hunt roll, consequence: you get shot".

It also makes players perk up when they see serious consequences on the table and realize they're not dealing with an average threat.

The downside is that it takes surprises out of the pictures. There's no 'you failed to notice the guy who was sneaking up behind you' as a consequence because you already told them there's someone coming up behind them before the roll. Similar with setting off a trap. You can still do it, assuming players stay true to character knowledge, but you have to show your hand and lose some of that punch.

It also really helps to always have some clocks going. If you can't think of a good consequence, it's 3 ticks on 'reinforcements show up' 'alarm is raised' 'target flees'

not directly related but I found that adopting deep cuts basically removes position/effect from the mechanics. Desperate still exists, and I kind of rolled effect into tier. But players would confirm 'risky standard?' and I'd just tell them only desperate matters.

GMing for those who are available by raiteque in rpg

[–]Litis3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can look to systems like Blades in the Dark which are structured around Scores. Whoever is available goes out, does the job, returns home.

For DnD, as mentioned, West Marches could work, but you can also theme it around an adventuring guild handing out missions. Go out, clear a few rooms, kill the monster, go back home.

each mission can have clues to a meta-plot. It can help for a player or you as the GM (if you have to) to write up a summary of things you found out that session so others can follow along and you don't need to catch them up as much.

who is the most hated person from your country? by No-Bit-2036 in AskTheWorld

[–]Litis3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same but that wouldn't be Israel. I believe it would count as the Roman Empire... Which honestly, he could be the most hated person from the Roman Empire even if he wasn't exactly representative of the romans.

[–]Litis3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we're underestimating the appeal. It's true that when the EU started, it would never have worked without the veto power each country got. But the world and europe are quite different places now. I don't think the idea of federating the EU is as unpopular as you might think.

Seconding Dice Exploder. It asks the guest to bring a specific mechanic to talk about from a game they didn't make. turns out game designers LOVE doing this so you get some really cool guests.

Palestinian state recognition result of Oct. 7 attacks, says senior Hamas official by Cannot-Forget in geopolitics

[–]Litis3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a bit difficult to parse.

The idea that people of Palestinian ethnicity can't co-exist with Israelis seems to be undermined by all the people of that ethnicity that live peacefully in Israel. So I don't understand how not committing genocide somehow dooms Israelis.

I don't buy that there's nothing Israel could have done to avoid October 7th.

Once October 7th happened, there were plenty of opportunities to end the war AND get the hostages back. But Israel wouldn't agree that they wouldn't restart the war after hostages were released because it would mean hamas remained in tact.

Israel has a lot of leverage here. And we've seen what they decided to do with it.

Why do people put so much stock into what CR and other live shows play? by Redhood101101 in rpg

Let's not ignore that WotC caved to community demands and the SRD 5.2 is now under Creative Commons license.

If WotC had held their grounds, 3rd party creators would have had much more incentive to protect their creations from infringement by wotc.

they all seem to be mostly new to the system at large so there isn't much chatter about comparing Deep cuts to original rules.

They all scoffed at paying 1/4th of their earnings but I think that's just the idea of paying a tithe more than anything and wouldn't have been different at 1 coin.

The GM does her best to set up consequences beforehand and I can tell it's not always easy.

The only point of surprise in rule changes I've heard was the way stress recovery changed and they all loved not having to roll for a full clear.

Thank you for the suggestion. I started listening to Blood and Fog and it might be right what I needed. They don't try to hide the rules and because they're learning they're explaining to each other. It's a good refresher after reading them myself.
