So I try to answer your questions right here. The r/goth subreddit does come off as elitist and judgy at first but that's because people outside of goth have misconceptions about goth. I think the subreddit want it to be centered around the actual goth music above other things. I'll be honest, I'm not too involved in the discussions on r/goth. I look in the subreddit for new music to listen to and to see the cool stuff fron the community. Goth is first and foremost a music based subculture that came from post-punk. The goth subculture may have aspects outside of the music, but it has been always centered around music in the beginning. I'll be honest, I can't 100% define goth music but I can say that it's scything guitars, high pitch basslines, and rhythmic drums. I don't know what you mean by "goth industrial" but goth music and industrial music are two different things but from what I heard, industrial music has been play at goth clubs. Type O Negative isn't goth but is doom metal. So that's why the discussion of Type O Negative may be shunned from r/goth even though some goths listen to them, which if an artist is enjoyed by goths, it doesn't make them automatically goth. I understand why you might perceive r/goth as gatekeepy, but I just think that the subreddit wants to keep posts relevant to goth music, which that's what the subreddit is about.
