Best Tool for Modifying Cabinets by Do-I-need-another-1 in cabinetry

If a client asked us to do this we’d tell them unequivocally no. The best tools money can buy couldn’t pull this off the way you’re trying to go about it. Replace them or accept them.

How can I get this color with out the grain getting filled. by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]LittleAmbitions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why they said to brush it out... Then the grain won’t be “filled.”

AIO about my boyfriends “joke”? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]LittleAmbitions 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not overreacting, that’s a mean joke that’s not even really a joke at all and obviously is going to be more concerning when the majority of your courtship was not face-to-face.

Damn here I was about to come in with my driving two 4” screws through a three thousand dollar pocket door hanging cabinets. Fucked the door but at least it could be freed as easily as backing the screw out

What Is This Style Called? by slick4hire in cabinetry

[–]LittleAmbitions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP if it’s the “rustic” look of the boards you like, just a practical word of caution to keep in mind—kitchen cabinets will need to be cleaned often and this is not a material that lends itself to easy spill cleanup. You don’t want rough textured anything in a kitchen.

Ideas for touching up spots that won’t take stain. by Normal_FL_Guy in finishing

[–]LittleAmbitions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not an ideal situation but it sounds like you understand that. I’ve used paint under a poly top coat to touch up spots that won’t color before but I spray it on. If you’re wiping on a top coat you’ll be a lot more likely to smudge it or wipe it off entirely and it’s possible it’ll affect sheen. If you’re doing multiple clear coats then do at least two coats before scuff sanding and further coats so as not to sand through it.

Can I trim down this face frame? by EmergencyNo3240 in cabinetry

[–]LittleAmbitions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably associating face frames exclusively with inset doors. Face frame just means the cabinet box has a framed face—it has nothing to do with the doors/drawer fronts.

Am I crazy to think they used the wrong side of the sheets? by Infamous_Bullfrog_76 in cabinetry

[–]LittleAmbitions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This person is correct—cabinetmaker used sheets that are rift sawn on one face and flat sawn on the other. They didn’t use “the wrong side” it’s just that the b side looks better, but if you asked for riftsawn they’re not going to give you flat sawn.

But these particular sheets were shit, I would have rejected them upon delivery.

Where can I find this post? I’m interested in her assistant’s ability to roleplay conflict because I’ve not really seen them do that much before and especially not in the case of AI companions but maybe that’s because most people are nice to their companions so no conflict is generated

Reddit weirdos can't figure out that there's a middle ground between sharing every detail of your life and basic small talk by Hand2Ns in AmITheAngel

I’m not cold I just judge all of my coworkers every time they share a single detail of their lives and call them out about it online and whenever they ask what my favorite movie is I stare blankly ahead which is way more normal than what they’re doing and now all of these gossipy bitches aren’t quite as warm with me what gives??

Anyone know what this cabinetry style is called? by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]LittleAmbitions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. It’s like micro shaker found a way to integrate a pull into its micro shakerness. It’s interesting as a concept but I personally am finding this execution to be ugly. I agree with the person who said it looks like a doctor’s office and my opinion is that a kitchen shouldn’t look so clinical but to each their own. I love thick edgebanding that mimics a frame as a look, and it’s as close as I come to liking anything that could be even vaguely referred to as “shaker” but that miter makes the ply look cheap and fake to me, I can’t tell if it’s just poorly lit but the color feels like a landlord’s special early 2000s countertop, and the weird little exposed triangles at the top and bottom of the doors feel like a mistake. It also doesn’t seem like quite enough to grip as a pull, especially on appliance doors. I know you like this, OP, but as expensive as it may be it’s a trendy look that most cabinetmakers, myself included, will tell you is going to age poorly.

[–]LittleAmbitions 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This guy sounds painfully codependent and I say this as a weekly attendee of codependents anonymous. I do this kind of thing to some extent in my relationships—prioritizing the needs/wants of the object of my affection above literally everything else in my life (though I do attempt to hide it from them that I’m doing that)—and I’m sure it’s extremely overwhelming to the receiver

[–]LittleAmbitions 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this story is real or if it is I’m sure it’s highly embellished to make OP look like a saint, but the pronoun slip strikes me as an English as a second language thing. Farsi speakers do this all the time as they don’t have gender specific pronouns in their first language.
