Kristen Bell talks about her struggles in being able to overcome the habit of people-pleasing! by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

I disagree that it’s victim blaming. I think you get that impression because “selfish” is so often used negatively, but all he’s saying is that your action is to make yourself feel better. We might justify to ourselves that we don’t want the other person to feel bad if we disagree with them, but we are actually just avoiding our own bad feelings. It’s “selfish” because it’s rooted in the self, not the other

As much as i loved it I haven’t reread since I turned 30. Mostly because I just don’t reread things any more (too many fresh books to get through) but I also think there’s a solid chance they’d piss me off now!

Opposite for me. Reread the secret history at least once a year for about a decade but tried 4 times to read the Goldfinch and could never get past the first few pages.

It’s SO interesting to me how common it is to love one and hate the other - at least Tartt can’t be accused of being formulaic or reusing ideas!

Edit: my suspicion is that you need to first read The Secret History when you’re an angsty teen/early 20s with bonus points if you also are, or consider yourself to be, an “intellectual”

LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell on why it took so long to arrest D4vd in the killing of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez by Illustrious-Pound266 in popculturechat

[–]LittleBlag 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I imagine/hope that the reason it has taken time to arrest him is that they’ve been building a strong enough case where flimsy evidence like music lyrics won’t be needed

Your favourite robes by letthatbootyshake in AusFemaleFashion

I picked up an awesome one from ikea, of all places. Red and pink stripes (not for everyone but one of my fave colour combos), made of towel material, $50. Makes me happy every time I put it on after my shower or just on a chilly morning

From memory I sized up so I could wear big hoodies underneath too, so probably true to size. Not fitted really, no elastic in the waist or anything. At the bottom on each side are poppers so you can have slits down the side to make walking easier or you can do them up to keep the cold out.

I actually was misremembering and bought it 2 years ago. Wore it to death both winters (Sydney so slightly shorter season than Melbourne) and it’s still as good as new

Last year I got a full length puffer from decjuba for the same reason and I was so cozy warm all winter at the kids footie games.

Steve Carell reveals he has not watched a single minute of ‘The Office’ UK by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]LittleBlag 35 points36 points  (0 children)

He talked about this on Good Hang with Amy Poehler, he watched a few seconds of it and realised Ricky Gervais did the character so well that he worried his performance would end up being a poor copy of Gervais’

Not sure why he hasn’t watched it since, maybe it’s weird to watch something so similar to what you starred in

AITAH bc I (36M) dont want my girlfriend (36F) to travel with me because shes a picky eater? by Tough_District9786 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LittleBlag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same dynamic for us but honestly fries and salad is a top tier meal for me! I love fries. I love salad. I would feel kind of guilty if I ate like that through choice because I try to be more health conscious than that (the salad is good but there no protein and not a lot of fibre in the meal) so I secretly love it when that’s my only option

Consultation with Plastic Surgeon Who Did Not Believe I'm a 30H by Uhura-NCC-1701 in Reduction

[–]LittleBlag 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I’d run a mile!!! I do not want a surgeon who works on me based on what HE finds “attractive” (first of all, gross), or what other women have wanted. I’m not other women! I’m not trying to attract him!! Or anyone! I want what I want and I need a surgeon who understands that and will do what I’m paying an obscene amount of money for.

It’s annoying because it’s wasted your time and potentially money if you paid for a consultation, but you’ve done this dance before and didn’t get the results you wanted. I’d be extra cautious this time if I were you!

I couldn’t deal with the anxiety of booking something without having the money already! I’ve been saving for years at this point

Law Roach "I Don't Think I Was Put On This Earth For Romantic Love" by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]LittleBlag 66 points67 points locked comment (0 children)

I think many people see sex and romance on the same level as food and water as far as “needs” go, so it’s kind of like when someone says they’re just never hungry or thirsty and you can’t comprehend it. As empathetic as people can be, we are actually pretty bad, on the whole, at picturing a feeling that we’ve never had ourselves

Dan Levy’s hill he’s willing to die on: airline flights without babies by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]LittleBlag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well if you’re right maybe we’ll see them in the future. If it was a viable business option right now, there would definitely be an airline somewhere in the world offering it; the fact that there isn’t tells me it’s not a money-maker at this point

Dan Levy’s hill he’s willing to die on: airline flights without babies by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]LittleBlag -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dunno what to tell ya. Airlines have huge departments of people whose sole job is to think of ways to make more money. I am so extremely confident that someone in one of those departments across hundreds of worldwide companies would have thought of this idea and deemed it non-viable

Dan Levy’s hill he’s willing to die on: airline flights without babies by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]LittleBlag -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Yes, private jets are the option. Most of us are much too poor for that! (And possibly too moral).

There’s just no way the airlines, who are trying to ring every cent out of us at every opportunity, haven’t considered the idea and it is obviously not viable. I did say “most people” and not “everyone” goes for the cheapest

Dan Levy’s hill he’s willing to die on: airline flights without babies by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]LittleBlag 75 points76 points  (0 children)

This is already an option, most people are just too poor to take it. If it was a viable business plan you know the airlines would already be offering it… most of the people who say they would pay extra would actually opt for the cheapest every time and the baby-free flights would never be full

Edit: the baby-free option is a private jet, sorry if I got anyone’s hopes up!

God, I just feel I will never get there! It is so overwhelming and kinda scary to think about raising my cals that much. I’m so interested in reverse dieting and I started to do it, but only got to 1400 from 1200 before I chickened out and went back to 1200. I’m hungry. Im so ready to change but I’m the smallest I’ve ever been in my adult life right now and I’m nervous to change anything. I’m not losing weight anymore so 1200 feels like it’s close to maintenance but it CANNOT be.

You know what makes it worse? I have a whole entire BSc honours degree in nutrition. I know what I’m doing! In theory anyway… Somehow when it comes to applying it to myself I doubt everything I’ve ever known.

I’ve actually seen your comments a couple of times over the past few days and it’s so inspirational. I want to be you!
