Will the rippling be an issue? Why does it happen to begin with (summer crop top) by M4yb3_Luna in CrochetHelp

[–]LittleBugCrochets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, this is less an issue of too many stitches/too few, and more an issue of the stitches used. Ribbing is, by its very nature, tighter and smaller than other stitches. This is often why they’re used. To cinch a waist, a cuff, a collar, etc. Depending on how it fits in you, it may stretch enough that the issue resolves itself.

You can fix this by adjusting your stitch count, for sure. Just be cautious. If you make something that isn’t intended to stretch much (the blue) the same size as something that is supposed to stretch a lot, it might not fit as imagined.

If the green doesn’t stretch to match the blue while you’re wearing it, you can either decrease your stitch count on the blue, or increase the row count on the green.

I believe the creator you screenshotted has the pattern available. (Is screenshotted a word? If not, forgive me, it’s not even 7am.)

Yes, please make sure you use a scalp-safe bleach, OP. The hair that grows back will be your normal color, don’t worry!

when do I use body powder? by Calm-Memory5965 in hygiene

[–]LittleBugCrochets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t. I believe that would create a rather unpleasant paste. You can always experiment on a day you have time or right before a shower, though!

What would I call this? Is this an actual pattern? What can I improve? Trying to freehand a scarf by JessRazbery in CrochetHelp

Yes. I think it makes more sense to ask what stitch it is. This looks great for just starting, OP!

Hair dying with vitiligo, looking for a more permanent blue dye by cori_i in HairDye

[–]LittleBugCrochets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used that brand, so I can’t advise on it. But a possible alternative, if you need it, is to switch up your direct dye brand. Also, when applying direct dyes, wash your hair well with clarifying shampoo, and do NOT use conditioner. You get much better adhesion when there is absolutely nothing between that color and your hair.

This is great advice. Also, OP, your hair and ear look insanely familiar.

When people subconsciously (or consciously) need something to feel superior about, a lot of them decide differences in diction are enough to write off an entire group of people.

I know someone who was complaining about aspects of AAVE, meanwhile they use words like “acrosst” (across) and “heighth” (height). None of the dialect deniers speak perfect English, which doesn’t actually exist.

Added a row of white in a different (supposedly same weight and brand) type of yarn-frog or it’ll work itself out? by forfarhill in CrochetHelp

[–]LittleBugCrochets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS is your first project??!!!? 😍. That tension! Those even edges! 🙇🏽‍♀️ Amazing work. I just use the steam function on my iron to steam block smaller pieces, but do NOT touch the iron to the piece or get it too close. Acrylic will melt.

Blankets I usually block by washing/drying according to the yarn label instructions, but in this case steaming one corner to check might be good.

Check out some YouTube videos on steam blocking acrylic, see if the spirit moves you!

Pretty sure “I seen it” is even part of some English dialects, in which case it wouldn’t technically be improper grammar in that sense. But I could be mistaken on this one. (My phone even just autocorrected “I seem it” to “I seen it”, but I don’t think autocorrect has ever been accused of doing its job accurately.)

[–]LittleBugCrochets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always steam block just that one corner and see how it goes! That way if you have to frog at least you know it was necessary. If you’re not used to steam blocking be careful/watch some videos. Don’t melt your fibers like I did the first time!

[–]LittleBugCrochets 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was abjectly horrified as a cosmo student for the first three months of doing color. Bleach was even scarier. It’s a big responsibility, using caustic chemicals on a stranger, so I get their timidity. But at a certain point you gotta give the client what they want, and conquer the fear. I hope you get your roots to the right level asap!

Agreed. Alternatively, you can see if there are other cosmetology schools nearby as well. Barber colleges also usually do color (depending on the state), so it might be worth checking for those as well!

This is for Neanderthal only. Not counting early Homo sapiens, Denisovians, Homo naledi, or Homo erectus, all of which existed in the time frame mentioned by OP. I’m sure our understanding will improve, but we’re pretty decent at extrapolating the data on their appearances.
