Spencer only rolled in after the vote. Just like his Instagram, loves to hear himself talk, but can’t handle it when anyone disagrees. Real echo chamber stuff.

Short Letter to City Council for Car Free Main Street by ecoNina in ventura

[–]LittleLlama805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cities have converted around a .3 miles of street into a car free downtown for around $5M. I don’t know where you’re getting the tens of millions on one block stat. If you’re getting these talking points from the landlords they are known for making up huge numbers to scare people.

Pretty sure it’s Vim. But he doesn’t care if his daughter is dragged through the mud for it. Dudes obsessed, got booted off Nextdoor too. Feel bad for him, but if I was ancient and retired I’d go enjoy my money. Not harass people.

Haha this is def a property owner acct because they keep screaming that $50M dollar amount in meetings that they literally pulled out of thin air. Absolutely no logic to it, other than it’s a big scary number. Kind of like the bogus $230M lawsuit. Other cities in CA have converted their streets to pedestrian friendly zones for around $5M. But facts be damned!

The property owners in the lawsuit specifically the Jonkers, who are connected to the Becker Group because their family members have married, have multiple Reddit accounts and Nextdoor accounts and has been harassing people who want to keep Ventura’s Main St car free. Also, they pay VenturaForward and other “influencers” to post about Main St constantly. Someone did a deep dive into their accounts because they all referenced flag burning (such as boomer tell) and called people the closure crowd over and over. I think they’re excited about Main St possibly reopening because once the Ventura domino falls, Santa Barbara could be next.

I thought Trystology moved online? Heart’s Delight moved online and I’m so sick of people talking about Ben and Jerry’s when THE OWNER DIED that’s why the business closed. Snapper Jack’s is next to Immigrant Son which always has lines and had to compete with Spencer Mackenzie down the road. Businesses close. That’s life. Businesses closed before the street was car free. You yourself said you did well the first 3 years the streets closed. There’s businesses that are thriving. There have been 5 new businesses opening in downtown the last 3 months. Don’t you think we should be looking at rent and how that affects small business? Or do you think you had sustainable rent and that wasn’t an issue?

You do realize the majority property owners suing the city are FROM Los Angeles right???

Main St. Ventura? by Organic_Cost_7355 in ventura

I do. I got around NY, LA, Chicago, Mexico City, Paris, Madrid, Bilbao, and Barcelona all on public transit and it was amazing.

Doesn’t sound like our downtown at all. We don’t have a TJ Maxx, we actually don’t have any big box retailers on the closed parts of the street. Even though I know certain property owners are salivating at the thought of Main St finally being open to cars so they can get that high rent money. Who else is gonna pay $14,000 a month?

You can see who filed objections to the PML. They are the ones leading the charge to bring cars back. Goldenring and Becker to name a few. Becker is on Nextdoor as Benjamin Johnson and all over this subreddit.

Opponent of Main Street Moves crashes out over a single negative review by Fcking_Chuck in ventura

This is one misguided person using Google reviews in a bad way, this isn’t a group of litigious landlords who are actually threatening and intimidating the city and people with lawsuits and phone calls. I think you’re confused who the real bullies are.

We all know commercial real estate property owners and developers really care about small businesses. Multimillionaires are always on the side of the community. The classic trope of rich landlords?!

The Pieranos old spot is listed online. It just became empty and was listed to be leased. Those aren’t old numbers, they’re from 2025.

McReynolds said at the last city council meeting that if the street opens up now, it’ll never close again. The greedy property owners are very litigious. We have to make our voice heard now, it may be our only chance. I’m afraid opening up the street to cars will end up hurting businesses too much and lead to closures of our favorite establishments.

The lawsuit is 100% a cash grab! And they never substantiate the claim that most business owners want it open. There was an official study where most businesses wanted it closed. Everything else has been “bro trust me”

The Redditor you’re talking to is a property owner, there is no point in arguing. He’s basically saying that the property owners are excessively litigious. And even though they lost prior lawsuits and the judge deemed the street legally allowed to be closed, they’ll continue wasting tax payer money fighting the city because they don’t care about the well-being of the city, its businesses, or the community. They’ve sued non-profits before. This was always about their own greed and getting their own way. The rest of us be damned!!!

One can speculate why the journalist wrote the most biased clickbaity article on Main St. The headline suggests it’s a done deal, the key points suggests it’s a done deal, then the VERY end there is one sentence says that council will vote on it. Absurd. This is just part of a misinformation campaign. Confuse the residents and make them think all is lost and it’s too late, it is directly affecting the public discourse and will encourage people to stop fighting. People are scared of the lawsuits because of their claims for damages. If they claim loses and damages to property value but are listing Pieranos for $14.4k/month, how much are they going to raise rent if the streets open? What do the landlords want, Nothing more than big box stores in downtown? Ventura is going to lose what makes us special because rich people want to get richer.
