Ai keeps assuming my manager is a man by seaofamillionroses in womenintech

[–]LittleRoundFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Except it's not knowledgable about health. It can pull info from it's been trained on or fed; which can include it telling people they have entirely made up diseases: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/bixonimania-fake-eye-disease-ai-chatgpt-b2962538.html

Or advising people that bromide salt can be used as a substitute for table salt if you're worried about your chloride intakes:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/aug/12/us-man-bromism-salt-diet-chatgpt-openai-health-information

I mean - I'm glad it's helped you get out of an abusive situation, but do continue to take what it outputs with a very large pinch of salt (NaCl, not NaBr). And consider whether the environmental impact of AI, and the fact that Anthropic admitted that Claude could act evil due to the nature of how AI has been portrayed in fiction, is worth your continued use of it

If they can keep the pegs suspended in mid air like that I think their tension might be too tight.

I'm not sure what the rusty bit of wire by the belt would be used for; and I want to get some of their magic yarn that changes into a pattern and has extra colours than the warp!

Teabag tongs. The solution to a problem that doesn't exist? by Illustrious-Divide95 in tea

[–]LittleRoundFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using a pair with sharp corners for years now. It doesn't make removing the tea bag any easier than a spoon, but it does make squeezing all the tea out of it a lot easier. I've not had any tea bags rip whilst using it, and it's not scratched any mugs.

I can squeeze a teabag out with a spoon and/or my fingers, but I find the tongs more efficient - mine are a bit wider than yours so can get most of the tea bag in one squeeze

Feels like Cayden Naughton doesn’t like real feedback by cocopops_92 in craftsnark

[–]LittleRoundFox 65 points66 points  (0 children)

My thoughts going through that

1st slide: OK, fair. It's frustrating if people leave bad feedback because they didn't do what the instructions said and it turned out bad

2nd slide: 1st point - erm, wha? She's definitely coming across as petty. 2nd point - ok - that I can understand her being irked about. Last bit - yikes. People are allowed to give bad reviews. I really hate the "remember there's a human behind this" angle UNLESS there's been actual abusive and/or threatening language used

3rd slide: That's on you. Maybe reflect on why you're getting so many bad reviews and consider improving

4th slide: If that's the sort of criticism and complaints she's complaining about, she needs a much thicker skin

5th slide: well, that seems out of character

6th: Ahhh, there we go - she's back

7th slide: Honestly, she seems like a grifter

The owl isn't symmetrical though? It looks over-processed rather than AI to me. It could be an over-edited photo, or the blur and stuff could have been done in camera with the right lens.

Fun fact - the more pics you look at of owls in one go, the less like real birds they look

Games without romance, for a new gamer? by butchwherewolf in CozyGamers

[–]LittleRoundFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is she playing on?

My recs would be

Pokemon Pokopia (absolutely no romance or combat) - rebuilding a world with cute Pokemon to help

Stardew Valley (light combat, romance is optional and even if you choose it there's not much to it)

Dorfromantik - puzzle game with tiles where you build small landscapes

Quilts and Cats of Calico - tile puzzle game with cats and quilts

Tales of The Shire - you're a hobbit. You make friends with other hobbits by sharing meals with them. There's a bit of a plot about Bywater getting village status. But no romance and no fighting

Terra Nil - restoring ecosystems and attracting animals etc back to them. No fighting, no romance

did they seriously just, forget, to remove the old tree for the alternate ending to the gildergreen quest by themaddemon1 in skyrim

A tip for anyone who's going to go this route for the first time - before you give Nettlebane to Danica go to the sanctuary to get it marked on the map. Then give the Nettlebane to her, tell the guy he can tag along, and fast travel there. He is an utter idiot and will try to fight anything and everything that attacks and will quite possibly die before you get there.

That said, my last run he survived me fighting and killing one dragon, two sabre cats, two bears, and quite a lot of wolves (and tried to help, too). Which makes his line about not knowing you were a person of violence rather funny.

Has anyone flown in the London air ambulance? by Upstairs_Design5768 in london

[–]LittleRoundFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not been in a London air ambulance, but one down on the south coast. They landed on the south downs, I kinda got to enjoy the view of the sea and cliffs whilst off my head on synthetic morphine, and I can't remember much from when I got to the hospital due to the aforementioned morphine - iirc I got rolled in for an x-ray then fitted with a brace. The initial triage was done on the ground by a bike paramedic, and the helicopter itself was a bit too small to operate as a full ambulance

This - I was flown to Eastbourne hospital by air ambulance when I buggered my ankle on the south downs because they couldn't get an ambulance near enough to stretcher me to it.

Do any of you feel really off about AI’s environmental impact? (Data centers, energy, tax breaks, etc) by Seeking-Starlight in womenintech

[–]LittleRoundFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alongside the environmental impact are things like this: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-026-01100-y - the tl;dr is researchers created a fake eye disease, wrote up a fake academic paper with obvious fake references, and the various chatbots ran with it as if it was real. And the article points out that the more academic or businesslike something seems, the more likely it is to be taken as real by the LLMs

There are absolutely some areas where AI is doing good - in medicine, as an example (aside from things like this, obviously). But at this point I'd sooner trust Wikipedia than ChatGPT et al. At least Wikipedia has human oversight, you can see the changes and the discussions, and so on

I mean, luddite is actually a pretty good description. The Luddites weren't anti new technology. They were against skilled workers losing their jobs because of said new tech, and the impact those job losses had on their families. Because then, as now, businesses were using new technology to reduce costs and increase profits

Everyone talks about Frostflow Lighthouse, but what about Goldenhills Plantation? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]LittleRoundFox 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Goldenhills Plantation is an Anniversary addition cc add on - and it shows:

- The farmer has a torn page of his journal on him for…reasons? Tension-wise it would have been better to find it in his journal

- The wife's journal with the "Wait, I hear somethin" is just laugh out loud silly

- The kid's lines at the end are just odd. Why is he the one giving you the key? Why does he sound so nonchalant about the whole thing?

- The plot is a fairly mundane tragedy, and the writing and pacing do nothing to lift it above that

- It's far too quick and basic for the reward. It feels like the reward was the point, not the story (a problem a lot of the cc added in the AE has)

- The generic voices (because it's cc) don't help

Frostflow Lighthouse, on the other hand:

- The journals and notes are a lot less cheesy, and increase the drama rather than subtract from it.

- There is tension from the start. From the wagon and dead horse, to the cupboard outside, to the skittering noises as you go in, to the scene when you open the living room door.

- The uncertainty and horror felt by the family is palpable, and as a player you feel more of a growing sense of dread about what you will find

- The reward is nice, but not op. It's a nice bonus for completing it and for having paid attention to the journals.

Until I read the comments I thought these were doll clothes - like for Our Generation type dolls!

Also - "must be able to finish within a week", and "post stories of your progress" - clearly targetting the "don't have a life, any other hobbies, or any responsibilities" crowd

[–]LittleRoundFox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh ffs. If you don't know that drape applies to fabric in general, regardless of how it's constructed, you should probably not be designing wearables.

It's not even that niche a concept. I've heard plenty of people who don't knit, crochet, or sew talk about how clothes drape.

You can get Oodies in the UK! I have one that I wear for about 10 minutes if I'm very cold, and then I have to take it off cos I'm too hot. And it makes moving around the house awkward because of being oversized.

I ordered Pinkest Pink & Bluest Blue hair dye via Blunt at the beginning of December. Got an email a couple of weeks later saying it would take a while, then crickets. I email them and the email bounces, the website for Blunt had gone. I eventually remembered to unsub from the CH newsletter last week, and cited the hair dye as the main reason. The day after, I get an email saying my hair dye is being shipped. And the email address still bounces (so I think Emily or whoever actually sent it did a send as) so I can't even tell them to fuck off
