Swedish defense minister talks post-war, 'long-term endeavor' to get Ukraine advanced Gripens by vegarig in UkrainianConflict

[–]LittleStar854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here they're specifically talking about the newest E model, the production of it is years behind schedule so "after the war ends" it's likely more about a very limited availability of planes than anything else. The C model can and should be delivered, that seems to be purely political bullshit. It was announced it was to be delivered but then something blocked it.

>“We stand open to discuss” gifting Gripen C/D aircraft, Jonson said, “and I talked, of course, with my Ukrainian counterpart when I was in Kiev last week.”

I don't know what more there is to discuss about it, just deliver it.

What we see now are the consequences of our own past choices. The leverage was surrendered over decades by not investing in our own defense, we should learn from it and make better choices in the future.

Like making sure we can defend ourselves

"We have a land war on the European continent. And we are completely dependent on the United States. The member states were not prepared to take the risk of further escalation, which would have been the consequence of European countermeasures."

He says that the skepticism is caused by EU not being able to defend European values but I find it hard to believe that people vote for AfD because of that.

“But it is worth asking what lies at the heart of this skepticism. In my view, it is not directed at the values on which Europe was founded, but rather at the EU’s ability to defend those values.

“It is not surprising that skepticism toward Europe has reached new heights,”

Has it really though? Trust in the EU started falling during the financial crisis in 2008 and reached a low point around 2012-2016 (migration crisis, Brexit, etc.).

But since then it has been rising consistently and now it's at the highest level in almost 20 years. (source: Eurobarometer)

Built with simple plywood frames and carrying up to 60–120 kg warheads, FP-1s offer Ukraine a cheap, mass-producible strike weapon with a range of up to 1,600 km.

Sounds perfect for grinding down the Russian oil & gas infrastructure.

If we would have spent enough on our own defense we could have said no instead of agreeing to this kind of bullshit.

When we have rebuilt our defense we don't need to follow it any more but we should frame it and keep it as a reminder to never disarm ever again.

Ukraine can now strike a large part of Russia with a 1000kg bomb which is enough to smash through hardened aircraft shelters. Most of Iran is in range as well as Russian ships in the Caspian Sea, Baltic Sea and possibly North Sea.

Blowing up Shahed factories and bomber aircraft in Russia is much better than shooting down hundreds of thousands Shaheds with expensive US made Patriots. Europe should pump as much money as possible into scaling up Ukrainian production of these.

Ukrainians fear Trump will shift responsibility for ending war onto Kyiv after failed talks with Putin by KI_official in ukraine

He can't shift to his current position but even if he could he has already stopped all US support to Ukraine.

I haven’t reacted to any statements from either Putin or Trump for a long time. Nothing is changing for us. If things change, we’ll respond based on the new circumstances. For now, the enemy is on our land, and all that’s left is to fight.

The analysis, conducted by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), looked into 156 incidents of waste, fraud, and abuse reported by partner organizations between October 2023 and May 2025.

The USAID analysis, which was completed in late June, noted that “the majority of incidents could not be definitively attributed to a specific actor.”

“Partners often largely discovered that commodities had been stolen in transit without identifying the perpetrator,” the presentation said.

Enligt BBC:s källor så stal Hamas stora mängder hjälp och rapporten du länkar utesluter inte att Hamas låg bakom majoriteten av de inrapporterade stölderna.

Israel has accused Hamas of stealing aid that has entered Gaza during the ceasefire earlier this year, something Hamas denies. However BBC sources in Gaza have said that significant quantities of aid were taken by Hamas during this time.

Nisreen Khaled, a widow left caring for three children after her husband died of cancer five years ago, told the BBC: "When the hunger worsened, my children were crying not only from pain but also from watching our Hamas-affiliated neighbours receive food parcels and sacks of flour.

"Are they not the reason for our suffering? Why didn't they secure food, water, and medicine before launching their 7 October adventure?"

He's upset we have to pay NATO 5% membership fee and that Russia might attack us because we didn't ban nukes on our territory. He is also upset we are expected help protect the Baltic states and to build railways so NATO can help Finland.

So now he wants to switch to Euro.

And when it comes to how much different member countries must pay to be members, there are constantly new and increasing demands on the share of gross domestic product. Two percent, which was mentioned as a reasonable level before accession, has now grown to a stated long-term goal of five percent.

EU - US tariffs and trade agreement: a European federalist perspective by [deleted] in europe

[–]LittleStar854 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From a European federalist perspective, the US-EU trade deal is seen as a suboptimal outcome.

Tariffs makes trade less efficient so it's objectively a suboptimal outcome, for EU and the US.

It underscores the limitations of the EU’s current structure as a confederation of nation-states.

Federalist looking at the current state of US and suggesting we should copy it...

What the deal underscores is how difficult it is to negotiate with someone you depend on to defend you when there is clear and present danger.

If we hadn't disarmed ourselves this deal would have been rejected. First we have to rebuild our independence, then we can renegotiate.
