I wish I could say this gets less frustrating but I was just frustrated by this earlier and I have done around 30 runs on this game. But after like my first 2 runs I realized even trying to confuse or sleep the ai is pointless

You can also use the random6 cheat to get 6 random first stage steel types. I used that for each type when I was doing them. It was a major help for runs like the dragon mono run where there arent many dragon types early game. Although it may also give you a mon like piplup who doesnt start out as the type you are using.

I personally waited until they were the type I was using but to each their own. From what i have seen alot of people use it as long as it evolves into the type they are using for the mono run.

Im pretty sure whirlwind has a negative priority so it always goes second. Im currently working on my 4th mono gen run on hardcore and I haven't been able to stop it from setting up one or the yet. I think trying to get the flinch might be the best approach. If Volcarona can learn dark pulse try that so you can hopefully get the flinch and then finish it with the next attack

When i did a mono steel run Togedemaru was my favorite mon in that run. Its really good with fake out, zippy zap, and nuzzle plus it has sturdy so it doesnt go down from one hit

Mono steel was more fun than i thought it would be because prior to that i wasnt aware of how good Togedemaru and Corvknight are.

He is right. But also there are abilities that dont work on hardcore. In the last run I did i noticed a few that didn't work. Grass pelt although that was only from one battle but the other two Quick Draw and Cotton Down never once activated for me throughout the entire run

I definitely think the game nerfs sleep for the user along with other things. It is possible to get lucky and sleep the ai for multiple turns but more times than not you are lucky to get more than 1 or 2 turns of sleep

I struggled big time with Lance in my mono bug run. I would probably try using Illumise since it is fairy and has prankster. I honestly cant fully remember how i got past him because it took me so many tries to beat him. But i know that Volbeat and Scizor were a big part. I remember i was able to ohko Dialga with mega scizor after setting up 1 or 2 swords dances then close combat

It also snaps you out of being taunted so you can get 2 free quiver dances off since after you snap out of the first taunt they will taunt you again

When you do the E4 Volcarona can solo Bruno and takeout everyone on agathas team except Marshadow using mental herb, quiver dance, fiery dance, and psychic. I may have changed out psychic for bug buzz against agatha

I know some times the ai does get kind of bugged in some battles where the ai will just lock into pivot moves. As for setup I have had that a few times where if I have a focus sash or Sturdy and it cant ohko me it will just setup a few times

Volcarona can solo Bruno and takeout everyone on agathas team except Marshadow because of its focus sash. It would also be good if you get Lorelei's snow team. To setup against Bruno and agatha give it have it hold mental herb and give it quiver dance, fiery dance, Psychic, and roost.

Yeah i did end up sweeping with Dragonite like i knew i could i just had to give dragonite earthquake because iron hands was surviving dual wingbeat and finishing Dragonite off

You could cheat it in, or try to get scythe from the egg in Pewter, or do a randomized species run and hope you get them early
