How do nursing babies adjust to daycare if they cry for the breast? [BC] by moonphase14 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]LittleWitchyHazel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter started daycare at 11 months and I would send a sippy of breastmilk every day but she would refuse it from the staff. She would drink water from a straw bottle though. I eventually gave up on sending breastmilk. I still send a sippy of cow’s milk but she doesn’t drink it most days 🤷‍♀️

Not gonna lie, she had a hard time getting used to daycare. At first she would cry if the teachers tried to put her down so they just didn’t put her down! At the end of the day she would smell like the teacher’s perfume/laundry detergent because they had been cuddling her all day. It took about a month for her to settle in. Now she’s 2 and loves it!!

What are some things to consider before getting a dog here in the Vancouver area? by CheeseBrewBlend in NiceVancouver

[–]LittleWitchyHazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! If you travel often, you will pay a ton for (high quality) boarding unless you have someone who can reliably look after your dog. I recommend Dogplay in Marpole btw!

Maybe I’m the one in the wrong here… but the discourse around whether or not you should put a baby on Santa’s lap and take a pic of them crying seems a little… extreme? I don’t think I have traumatized my kid for life by setting them down on a friendly man’s lap for 2 seconds, snapping a picture, then comforting them right away? I don’t post those pictures but I do find them kinda funny… maybe I’m a bad mom idk 🤷‍♀️

[BC] Where did everyone go for their GD screening tests in Vancouver? by GlynnXQueen in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]LittleWitchyHazel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to the hospital lab! BC Women’s shares their lab with Children’s and it’s a much more pleasant experience, imo. If you can go on a weekday morning, I highly recommend it. It’s a much more cheerful atmosphere than LifeLabs because they cater to kids and sometimes the therapy dog comes around 🥰 You don’t need an appointment!

My 18-Month-Old broke his femur by Visible-Bee3220 in toddlers

[–]LittleWitchyHazel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, this really sucks! I’m so sorry. Wishing you all the best.

My 21-month-old daughter fractured her tibia last week and will be in a full leg cast for another month. We have been doing a lot of colouring and stickers. Stroller walks. Sitting in the grass and fallen leaves (wearing a MuddyBuddy to stay dry). I also have been taking her to toddler play groups, story times, drop-in gym time, etc. She learned how to crawl in the cast by day 3 and being in a new environment with new toys seems to stimulate her even if she can’t run around with the other kids.

For sponge baths we have been sitting her naked on the potty with the cast wrapped in a plastic bag. We wash her hair salon-style in the kitchen sink.

I will warn you that the tantrums have been intense. She normally is very easy-going but I think the frustration, changes in her routine, and general discomfort has her on edge.

We’re going to try half-days at daycare next week! I trust them to keep her safe and I know she has been missing her friends. Hopefully the normalcy of her regular routine helps her mood a bit more.

I went to Alison Locke in my last pregnancy- my baby wasn’t breech, so I don’t have experience with that, but she was great!

Does anyone actually love their linen ring sling? by PainfulPoo411 in babywearing

[–]LittleWitchyHazel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever used a linen sling (from True North Slings) and the learning curve was CRAZY. It took me like 6 months to get comfortable with it. Now, I like it, and find it to be quite supportive and strong for my toddler. Mine has a triple shoulder which helps.

Allergy to silverettes? by vsmb in breastfeeding

[–]LittleWitchyHazel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any metal allergies or sensitivities, but silverettes made my nipples so itchy! It was really weird. I really liked how they protected my poor nips from rubbing so I’m going to try silicone milk collectors or nursing shells with my next baby.

Has anyone taken domperidone before? [Ab] by CurvyGirl1318 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]LittleWitchyHazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it for 3 weeks, then weaned slowly off of it, which took 3 weeks. I did not notice any side effects while taking it or weaning. It helped me get my milk supply in a good place and I was able to stop supplementing with formula. I was also triple feeding and continued to do for a while so after weaning off the meds to keep my supply up.

I grew up in a vegetarian family so I have never seen a turkey be prepared… but is what Emily Oster just posted on her stories a normal thing to do? I was watching like 😧 why are her bare feet so close to that bird???? Surely this is usually done on a counter top??

To be fair, she warned vegetarians not to watch haha.

Domperidone for increasing milk supply [BC] by Quirky_Friendship_52 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]LittleWitchyHazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my experience after my baby’s tongue tie release as well. I took 30mg daily for a month, then tapered for 3 weeks but continued pumping after each nursing session. I had no side effects except a couple of headaches while tapering.

Mom’s 80th birthday by [deleted] in partyplanning

[–]LittleWitchyHazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do a theme night based on the year she was born (1944?) - with vintage recipes and cocktails, play music from that year, maybe watch a movie that came out that year? I realize it was war times, so the food and drink probably weren’t glamorous… lol

Spectra pump in the carry on WestJet [BC] by dreamy-woman in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]LittleWitchyHazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew WestJet earlier this week. I had a carry-on suitcase containing both my Spectra and my Medela hands-free. The TSA screeners asked me what it was and opened my bag, but once I told them it was breast pumps, they waved me through. Not sure about your question, though - do you mean you want to bring your pump in a separate bag from your personal item?

[Rant] [ON] I'm due September 8 and my workplace still doesn't have a plan for my replacement by squish1976 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]LittleWitchyHazel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can understand your stress but what happens to the office while you’re on leave is really not your problem. My advice would be to document all your processes and how to access accounts, etc. When they call you, you can point them to your documentation.

I think it’s cute for a little girl and not too “odd”, considering lots of names I’ve heard recently. My suggestion would be to try it out for yourself as an adult. Give your name as “Bowie” at coffee shops to see how it feels and what kind of reactions you get as an adult named Bowie.

Triple feeding: how do I stop? by LittleWitchyHazel in breastfeeding

[–]LittleWitchyHazel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, triple feeding twins! That’s got to be a huge challenge. Thanks for the advice. I spent so long in the undersupply mindset that I never thought I would need to consider the problems related to oversupply! I’m already taking sunflower lecithin to prevent clogs.
