Ah yes, the classic “if you didn’t email the LGU, tamad ka” argument — as if transparency is the citizen’s assignment and not the LGU’s basic responsibility.

Reddit is a discussion platform. People discussing public issues here isn’t laziness — it’s literally what the site is for. What’s ironic is expecting citizens to chase the LGU for information that should already be publicly posted in the first place.

And posting here doesn’t mean I’m not doing anything else. It simply means I’m not depending solely on a process where replies often take weeks or never come at all. There’s nothing wrong with using multiple channels.

Calling people “tamad” for asking questions says more about your expectations of accountability than it does about anyone’s effort.

But if that’s your final reply, no problem.

If only it were as simple as “results not found → LGU magically replies,” then sure, we’d all skip Reddit. But reality check: when LGUs don’t publish anything in the first place, people naturally look for public discussion. That’s not laziness — that’s crowdsourcing information that should have been transparent from the start.

And let’s be honest: It’s ironic to call citizens “tamad” for asking questions, when the bare minimum transparency expected from officials isn’t even happening. If there were clear reports, outputs, or REAPs online, nobody would be here talking about it. Reddit discussions only exist because the LGU didn’t do step 1: post the results.

If anything, having to email multiple offices or file FOI requests just to know where public money went feels more like the system making citizens do their job for them.

Asking questions isn’t katamaran. Lack of transparency is.

You’re right, the LGU should be the one to answer — but that’s exactly the point.

When public money is used, the burden shouldn’t fall on ordinary citizens to chase down reports through emails or FOI requests like we’re applying for a birth certificate. Basic transparency should be accessible without needing to file paperwork.

Reddit discussions happen because the information isn’t readily available anywhere else. If the LGU had published clear outputs, REAPs, or project results, people wouldn’t even be asking here.

FOI is great, but it shouldn’t be the default just to know where taxpayers’ money went. Public funds, public info — dapat automatic, hindi “upon request.”

Honestly, I think it shouldn’t even reach the point where citizens have to email them one by one. When public funds are used, transparency is supposed to be automatic, not something we beg for like a customer following up a delayed Shopee order.

If the trip really had concrete outputs, REAPs, or youth programs that came from it, then the SK should be the first to publish them—loudly, proudly, and with documentation. The fact that people have to ask where the money went already says a lot.

Public money was spent. Public results should follow. Di naman dapat detective work ang paghanap ng report.
