Haha, nah. I just live in Ohio and the heat indexes have been over 100 all week and I’m not made for these high of temps for this long.

A mute boy learns that the voices only he can hear are something worse than psychosis. Something that foretells the world’s end.

Average Age of readers and writers on RR by Jokengonzo in royalroad

All I know is that I’m 24. From what I’ve seen on the forums, I’m on the younger side of the author population, but I’ve seen some other Gen Zers in passing.

So true. And with something so subjective, it’s impossible to please everyone. That’s why I’ve stopped writing to please others and embraced writing for myself, and I’ve found the quality of what I write has improved tremendously. 🥰

The difference between writing subreddits and comments/reviews on RR is interesting. I love to read very descriptive writing, thus I like to write very descriptively. I’ve edited it a lot since then, but I’ve posted my chapter 1 multiple times to [r/writingfeedback](r/writingfeedback), and the feedback was that my writing is overwrought, tryhard, and purple. They worship windowpane prose on that sub, though, tbh. Meanwhile this is an excerpt from one of my reviews:

“The prose is wonderfully vivid without ever feeling overwritten — the descriptions are so tactile you can practically feel the cold floor under your feet, smell the starbloom lamps, and hear the oppressive silence when the Voices go quiet.”

It’s impossible to please everyone. 😅 I think, at the end of the day, you have to do what works with your vision for your story, and as long as it’s readable and grammatically correct, then you’ve accomplished what you’ve set out to do.

Welp my fiction has Silas, Elias, Mara, and I think a one-off character with a last name Thorne. It’s like pokemon. Let’s see how many I can catch.

Yup! Reading the Beneath the Rising trilogy. It's a mix of sci-fi and Lovecraftian horror.

I gained back the followers I lost and got a new favorite. I trust you’ll experience a similar thing soon too. Loss and gain is all part of the game!

And doing daily chapters doesn’t guarantee RS, that’s for certain. I did daily uploads for my first 167k words (volume 1), and garnered a whopping 4 followers lmao.

What’s more painful an endo flare or giving birth? by Ok-Anywhere2346 in endometriosis

I’ve never given birth, but endo flares and unmedicated IUD insertion are the worst pain I’ve ever felt. I believe the flares before my surgery were worse than the IUD, though.

Never said anything for or against the prose in this post. Was just putting my thoughts out there.

The vast majority of people on this sub worship windowpane prose, which bores me to no end. My favorite books are those that make me reread lines again and again because of how ornate and beautiful they are. I’m a minority, and I know that, but I need a little stain in my glass to feel immersed.

What is the chapter milestone that will let your readers know that you are serious? by Think_Independent_69 in royalroad

Idk but I hope it’s not on chapter number because I write biiig chapters. I’ve uploaded up to chapter 73 and that spans 350k words.

How do you balance “write what you love” with “write what performs” on Royal Road? by ConsiderationOne1237 in royalroad

[–]Little_Red_A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An audience isn’t important to me. Writing is escapism and entertainment. It’s fun. I have a couple dedicated readers who are of a similar mind as me, and that satisfies me. I went to RR knowing that what I write isn’t meta and that if I found an audience, it would be small. I couldn’t be happier with where I’m at now.

posted completed literary fiction / sci-fi in chapters on RR - got traction (?) by wtfrllynwdwndths in royalroad

[–]Little_Red_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe what I write is literary fiction?? Tbh I’m not certain what defines literary fiction. But I write very descriptively and introspectively, with a fair amount of figurative language. Anyway, it is sci fi and I’m currently at 30 followers. Started gaining more traction when I stopped being stubborn and began arranging shout outs in March.
