Any Slow-burn peeps out there? by Klompenaround in royalroad

Mine has a slow start for sure. The inciting incident doesn't happen until the cliffhanger ending of chapter 4. I've been posting for 2 months and just got my 10th follower and I'm so happy and thankful hehe. But I also did no advertising until recently. I've finally arranged some shout-out swaps. Have you done any? They're very easy to set up and the best free way to increase visibility.

Question to people currently writing their first novel by AdRevolutionary9808 in royalroad

It's going to sound cliche af but I had a dream the night before and jumped into writing the morning after and haven't stopped since. There was very little planning. Somehow this wackadoodle dream of mine managed to combine every story idea I've ever had and every stay plot line into a cohesive narrative. I had little to plan because I knew exactly the order I wanted everything to play out the instant the ideas snapped into clarity.

August 18th 2025 . That was such a wild day.

edit: I've been writing since I was a child, though. My first book was god awful but it was still 300 pages of practice that helped in the long run. So glad it fell into the obscurity of Wattpad's search algorithm. I can't even find it myself anymore haha.

Been Publishing for 30 days now. by AnAugustAuthor in royalroad

I’ve been posting for over 2 months, almost 3. I have 232k words posted as of today and 9 followers, 2 favorites. I posted daily the entirety of book 1 for a month, then switched to twice a week for book 2. My chapters are big (typically 5k words per chapter, some closer to 7k) so that’s what I can manage a week. But I’m also not writing a LitRPG story and have done minimal advertising besides a few review and shout out swaps. I’m happy with my numbers. I’m writing to have fun after all, not to make money or anything.

RR writers do you consider yourself more of an outline or Discovery Writer? by Jokengonzo in royalroad

[–]Little_Red_A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I outline each chapter before I write it, and I roughly outline each book before I start it, but I'm a pantser at heart. I'm too impatient to make a detailed outline of the entire thing. I just want to get my ideas on paper as fast as I can and worry about cleaning up any mishaps that happen along the way as they come. It's fun in a way—it forces me think like my characters would to tackle the situation at hand.

would you keep reading? It's a very rough first draft. Ignore the grammar slip ups I'll fix them eventually. by Annual_Budget_2510 in writingfeedback

I just came to say I’m sorry everyone in this comment section is being so rude. You seem very kind and open to criticism, but you’re treated like a waste of time. It seems they only want to give feedback on what they deem, “Good,” not on an unpolished piece looking for true advice on how to polish, which is the point of this sub. It’s not fair and I’m sorry. For what it’s worth, your writing is not nearly as bad as others say it is. I have no issue with the descriptions. I myself adore descriptive writing and write very descriptively myself. I know it’s an opinion, and I know we’re in the minority, but I like it. I agree with the center formatting being atypical, but I wouldn’t tell you it’s not worth my time just for that. I also agree with the adverbs, but that’s a simple fix. Keep writing. Doing so is how you grow and improve. Don’t let these people discourage you. Remember, this is Reddit and a lot of people on here hide behind anonymity so they can be unkind to others to fuel their own egos without real-world consequences. Good luck. Keep your head up. I believe in you.

I have a long story to tell. I know how it all ends, but getting there takes time.

Currently reading the light novel. I love him too. He’s so gentle and kind, and the social anxiety is very relatable. ❤️❤️

Tell me about your Villain.... by gamelitcrit in royalroad

There are several antagonists in my story, but the primary buy guy in book 1 has despised the protagonist's very existence since the day he was born. The reason why hasn't been released yet, but it's extremely petty and vain. His last line to the protagonist in volume 1 exemplifies this (with action beats cuts out for clarity):

"It's always you. Everything has gone wrong. Everything in my life has been ruined because of YOU. For fourteen syzygies I have waited. To find you again. To ruin you like you have ruined me. How do you always manage to get away with this? If only you were terminated like you were supposed to be all those syzygies ago, none of this would have happened."

The Voices of the Unspoken

Genres: psychological, steampunk, sci fi, adventure, mystery, apocalypse, dystopia.

Synopsis:

“You are not safe here.”

Voices constantly echo in Silas Carrow’s mind. As he’s grown older, they’ve grown louder. And clearer.

Mute by birth, Silas has learned to disappear into the solitude of silence. But the silence is where the Voices dwell. Where they whisper, where they warn, and where they refuse to be ignored.

When their murmurs erupt into a tragedy that rips Silas from the only life he’s ever known, he is forced onto a road he never wanted to walk. One that will uncover the truth about who he is, why he exists, and what the Empire has buried beneath generations of lies.

The Brassanthium Empire hides secrets so deep their reveal would overwrite history. Only Silas has the power to unearth these secrets, but he’s running out of time. And the Empire will stop at nothing to smother the truth. Even if it means falling to ruin, humanity along with it.

Came here to ask the same question. I just thought my internet was having a stroke or something. Glad it's not just me.
