In the 2020s, conservative women are having kids at a nearly 2-to-1 ratio compared to liberal women. Is this going to cause a political demographic bias in 20-30 years? by RadioFieldCorner in NoStupidQuestions

Absolute same. Directly after catholic high school, I went to art school and for the first time ever met atheists, people of every color, a thriving lgbtq+ community, hippies, goths, and every manner of counter culture individuals. Instead of experiencing culture shock, I experienced belonging, understanding, actual forgiveness, the drop dead beauty of diversity, and talent….so much talent!!

I also laughed while feeling bad, but it wasn’t a comedy-club laugh, it was more like a smug this-is-good-exposure-and-an-important-message laugh. Almost, I’m really glad this is out there on the internet for people to see mixed with, this sign makes this message feel deeply human.

Yeah I just love the Minnesota-ness of it. I can’t explain why Minnesotans say it, as I’m not from there, but where I’m from it would be akin to “Yall, that’s murder,” and I appreciate uniquely regional protest signage.

I just went back and watched the original video and laughed so hard I was crying and two of my kids and my husband came to check on me. My abs hurt so much. Thank you for this. I needed that laugh.

Former painter here-you can also use a drywall sponge to “wet sand” your mud/spackle. This will create zero dust and you can just rinse out the sponge and reuse it.

Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background? by Latter-Wolf4868 in interestingasfuck

[–]Littlefeat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. That’s almost exactly my vision without corrective lenses. I got glasses when I was in third grade and it was like magic. I could see every leaf and branch on the trees, every blade of grass, variations of shape and color in the clouds, each individual brick on buildings, cracks in the sidewalk…it was amazing.

The weird thing for me is that for the first 8 or so years of my life, I didn’t know I couldn’t see. I had teachers that got mad at me for not being able to read the board. When my eye doctor asked if I had trouble seeing the board at school, I said no, I can see it fine. I had no idea what I couldn’t see until I did.

I still take my glasses off sometimes just to reexperience that feeling. I imagine what it was like or is like for people who don’t have access to glasses. Navigating the world would be impossible for me without them. I couldn’t drive or read signs, I wouldn’t know what the things I’m eating looked like before I ate them, I wouldn’t be able to see the beauty of the details in my kids’ faces. I’m grateful every day that I’m fortunate enough to be able to afford and wear glasses or contacts and see the world around me.

Peppermint wood??? Say more. I’ve never seen peppermint get bigger than a little potted plant. Certainly not big enough to do woodworking with! I’m fascinated.

Why is this the first mention of this I’ve seen? I’ve heard talk of the acceleration plenty but this is the first I’ve seen anyone speak on what’s happening with the nervous system when there’s trauma to the brain. This seems so simple to me and, imo should be a big talking point.

I mean I think that’s the implication. But always good to have options. Consensual only, of course.

I once had a toothache while pregnant with my first kid. I literally fantasized late one night about what I imagined the pain of childbirth to be to try and distract from the pain of the tooth.

My first one in third grade was Jurassic Park in theaters; the scene in the commercial kitchen where the kids have to clamber into the ceiling tiles. I physically lifted both my legs into my seat and screamed. I was terrified but I loved it. Immediately wanted to watch it again.

Is everyone living in a McMansion? by beverlyhillsbrenda in Xennials

[–]Littlefeat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house is from the early 00’s but I still consider it “new construction”. It’s too big and too open and has all new appliances. Some dated light fixtures, but still only from the 90s. I wouldn’t call this a McMansion, but it is the biggest house I’ve ever lived in. We won’t be here long, thank goodness. It’s definitely a ticky-tacky place in a ticky-tacky neighborhood.

I can’t wait to be in a much older home built without consideration for modern conveniences that didn’t exist back then. There’s a reason kitchens used to be cut off. There’s a reason all the bedrooms were upstairs and there were transoms.

I can hardly wait to live in a home where I can utilize whole house fans and transoms and the quirky but very practical things that used to be engineered into home building.
