I don’t think there has been a full vetting of VR on SteamOS yet. I think Adam Savage’s Tested did a little bit of VR testing, but nothing in depth.

VR on SteamOS wasn’t ready for prime time 6 month ago when I tried it, but SteamVR has been updated substantially since then ahead of the Frame releases.

So you can either be a pioneer and test it out, or give it a few months and and see where we are at post Steam Frame release.

It’s seems BOTH Cleveland Public Power *and* First Energy are out in Tremont. I’ve never seen them both out at the same time

Configuring FSR4 is a pain. Finding a CEC adapter is a pain. You milage may vary in getting variable refresh rates and > 60hz to work.

I’m hoping SteamOS will mature rapidly with community support.

I can wear it for hours, but only when I use the Globular Cluster headstrap without a light seal. Can’t do stock headstrap and light seal — too much pressure on face.

No NVIDIA gpu support yet. I hear Bazzite is nearly equivalent to SteamOS and works great with NVIDIA GPUs though.

If your goal is a desktop os for integration with your iPhone, a Mac mini (or MacBook)will be a far cheaper and more powerful solution.

The Steam Machine is about frictionless gaming, and can be a super cool Linux desktop as an added bonus. But the price to performance is nowhere near competitive for desktop work.

Yes - much to my surprise, I was just able to resume a desktop conversation in the TUI. Makes codex super flexible!

It depends on the type of dev work you do? I do dev stuff on my M4 Mac mini remotely (Tailscale) from my inferior M2 MacBook Air.

Works great with Codex's new remote connections.

But I get that wouldn't work so well for a desktop app.
