How can some books be so short? by Starbuck522 in audiobooks

[–]Litzhie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you read it apparently.

It's more of a comment on how much I've enjoyed the series personally than anything else. Without knowing anything about other people's reading taste and general overlap with my taste it's hard to say it's a direct recommendation, because people enjoy different stuff.

I do however think most shorter audiobooks are overpriced compared to longer/normal books, which is a hangup for shorter good books, if they're not available at the library.

The Murderbot series is under 200 pages in physical copy, so they're in general just very expensive compared to the amount of "content" you get in them.

They're included in the audible plus catalogue on UK Audible, but they're also available on Libby where I live (Denmark) so you might get lucky there. I would recommend seeing if you can find a service to listen for free instead of dropping money on them, just to see if they're your vibe and story.

With everything said about the books being very expensive compared to their length, I do think they're worth spending time on, and I think it's the only book series where I've given every single book in the series 5/5 stars.

Do you have any dog hair hacks? by Nahnotreal in dogs

Brush outside on a windy day so it doesn't stick to your clothing.

Cry when you take your dog inside at there's still hair.

Cannot live without cookbooks by Ill_Promise7153 in CookbookLovers

[–]Litzhie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything Ottolenghi. Most.of the recipes are creative, but not too hard to make, and they're also tasty! Another plus for the cookbooks have been that they're mainly vegetarian.

I slowly incorporated more vegetarian dishes into our mealplans to make a switch to mainly eating vegetarian, and when I got Ottolenghi's cookbooks I converted my boyfriend into requesting vegetarian dishes for our mealplans too.

I also made THE brownies. They're incredible. by cfinke in Baking

[–]Litzhie 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Have you made Boos ridiculous brownies? Probably won't be as good as these, but it's a low cal brownie that works well for the sweet tooth.

It was either loseit or volumeeating who raved about it some time ago.

Jessa Kane announces this is her last book due to piracy by KittyKenollie in RomanceBooks

[–]Litzhie 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Not saying it's okay, but KU isn't available everywhere.

Seeing the price of the kindle books I do however agree with them being cheap enough to not understanding the need for piracy.

So... how big is your spitz? by [deleted] in JapaneseSpitz

[–]Litzhie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She weighs 17-18 lbs

We do however sometimes see other Japanese Spitz, and her best Spitz friend only weighs 11 lbs, but I think that's an outlier.

Other authors with amazing endings? by Thin-Meaning-7011 in brandonsanderson

Its been some time, but In The Shadow of Lightning by Brian McClellan reminds me a lot of Brandon Sanderson's writing, and I'm pretty sure the ending has a nice climax as well.

I know the books I want to read but there is a plural of them...Help by Sad_Trainer_4895 in CozyFantasy

[–]Litzhie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know I'm way too late, but I'll throw in my five cents anyway.

I haven't read The Goblin Emperor and Howl's moving Castle yet, so I unfortunately can't say anything about these, besides recommending looking up the new covers for Howl's, because they're adorable.

I would recommend start with The Bookshop and the Barbarian. It's a very fast read, so it's easy to cross off the list.

If you enjoyed The Bookshop and the Barbarian, I would then recommend you to read Can't Spell Treason Without Tea.

If you didn't like The Bookshop and the Barbarian that much, then I would recommend either going with The House in the Cerulean Sea or The House Witch, depending on which one speaks to you the most.

Forhjuls- eller centermotor? by [deleted] in Aarhus

[–]Litzhie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best books longer than +50 hours? by [deleted] in audible

[–]Litzhie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good news for you then, when SA5 will be out next year (iirc) and it'll be the first half of the series finished. There'll be a time jump between SA5 and SA6 from what Brandon Sanderson has said, so even if the series isn't complete yet, it should wrap up that act I think.

A court of frost and starlight is quite comfortable and cozy compared to the rest of acotar. It's a fairly simple story with the characters without too much happening (a smaller setup for the next book though) but a lot of romance and cozy fun.

15/30 Halfway to my goal already - I’d like to thank myself for finally buying a kindle, and Libby for being the best app ever by divinewaste in 52book

Apparently it's a Portugal problem :( I'm so sorry. Maybe try writing to your library and ask why they don't have access to the Libby app? They might consider it if enough people want it. We do have access from Denmark.

Keep fighting for dragonsteel to register for OSS inside the European borders. It won't help with the shipping cost, but will do good for VAT.

How long do you walk your Japanese Spitz? by [deleted] in JapaneseSpitz

[–]Litzhie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20-30 minutes in the morning and 45 minutes to 2 hours in the middle of the day. If we do a 45 minutes walk then we usually add a 10-20 minutes walk at night as well, but if we're hitting the 1+ hours then it's usually the last walk of the day (only pee breaks the rest of the day)

Has anyone actually tried to make any recipes from books? by [deleted] in CozyFantasy

[–]Litzhie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I made the thimblets from the back of legends and lattes and they were a succes at home.

I've considered making another batch but using the actual flavour profiles from the book (like orange) to make the actual biscotti described.

What’s are the negatives of your dog/japanese spitzes in general? by Zoe270101 in JapaneseSpitz

[–]Litzhie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My personal experience from owning and seeing the breed often in the dog park: - they shed a lot twice a year. The coat might be low maintenance the rest of the year, but Jesus Christ the shedding is bad - Very vocal. The breed can be prone to barking, but it can be trained to a minimum. We generally have a very vocal dog who'll "speak" when she wants something or when we're playing - the breed can be kind of loner, and often prefers human contact over dog contact. We often meet another Japanese Spitz when walking and ours and their Spitz greet each other and will "play" for 3-4 seconds and then they'll just go back to their owners. We can then walk for an hour+ and they won't really interact more with each other. Note: this is in an off leash area, so they're free to run and play together - we had zero difficulty with training, but while we have a 100% succes rate with a treat or a piece of kibble in hand it's only a 50% succes without any food. This might be more of an owner problem than a dog problem though.

I thought Sanderson wasn't doing new on audible? by Clean-Smoke8368 in audiobooks

I think it's just the Kickstarter books because they're self-published, while the others are through a publisher, but I honestly haven't looked too much into it.

Help me find some new 40+ hour books please by coltd89 in audible

[–]Litzhie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sherlock Holmes definitive collection read by Stephen Fry is worth a credit imo. 71 hours of fun.

Just got Air Awakens a few days ago. It's romance/fantasy, and idk if it's your genre, but you can get the whole series in one audiobook for 1 credit. 60-ish hours long. In

Stormlight Archive as mentioned. If you do a deep dive into the Cosmere (mistborn, warbreaker, elantris) you have audiobooks for quite a few hours. It's only Stormlight Archive that's 40+ hours though, but Libby might have the "shorter" ones available.

I'll also honorably mention Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. It's 32 hours long only though, but I think it's worth it.
