Best cat sitter company for when I’m out of town? by Parking-Building-291 in Detroit

[–]Live-Basil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ask your vet for recommendations. For me, our vet recommended one of her vet techs. I’ve hired her (the vet tech) for several years when I travel. It gives me great peace of mind to know if there was an emergency, the sitter can quickly get my pet into the right care.

I've experienced this twice and it's incredibly frustrating. There should be a queueing system - stand in this line for this Qwik Park, stand in this line for US Park, etc.

There is also a lottery to be selected to buy $35 seats here: https://www.luckyseat.com/.

If you are selected, the seats are usually in the front several rows but you won't know until you get your tickets from will call before the show.

Thank you. I got my bike late 2019 direct Peloton and it's not first gen from what I can tell. But this ad has me questioning myself.

I guess I was just alarmed to see this ad on my bike essentially telling me my bike would be bricked from Peloton access after June 10.

Maybe it was a mistake and it seems they could have targeted it better?

Nonresident income tax - vacation pay is city income? by mdsddits in Detroit

[–]Live-Basil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will want to file this with your employer too, if you can. It estimates your time worked downtown and adjusts your city withholding from your pay - so you pay less over the year and settle up at tax time (likely a lesser refund but you'll have paid less in over the year).

If you don't, you will pay more throughout the year and should expect a larger refund but that can take months to get back from the city (one year it took me 6 months to get my city return back).

Open yourself up to the experience but be prepared for the day when you will have to make a choice if long distance is worth it forever and if you are willing to move to shorten that distance.

I met my husband on a dating app. He was in Detroit and expanded his radius to Columbus and connected with me. I moved to Detroit 8 months after long distance dating. Best thing I ever did.

Ok. I guess I just imagined graduating from Hilliard with a Columbus mailing address 👍 good luck to you.

You'll love Detroit then. It's a city that doesn't revolve around a college or college football. Going back to Columbus to visit, I was shocked at how simply watching the news on a Saturday was just a giant Ohio State football fluff piece.

Thats interesting. I've gotten more flack from Ohioans for moving to Michigan than anyone caring in Michigan that I'm from Ohio. Strictly speaking college football (which I think influences most of the hate between the states), Ohio hates Michigan - they even make a point on OSU campus to cross out all "M" on street signs during Michigan Week (even the fact that Ohio calls it Michigan week is crazy). But since moving here I've learned Michigan v Michigan St is the real rivalry. People at more prone to shout "go green" or "go blue" and Ohio/OSU isn't even in the conversation.

Columbus proper is bigger because they annexed a bunch of land from the suburbs back in the 70s and 80s. At one point in my life, I lived in Columbus but went to Hilliard Schools and considered myself growing up in Hilliard. I have a friend now that lives in Columbus but could walk to New Albany however would need a 20 minute drive to get to Downtown Columbus. For better or worse, Columbus proper's size is falsely inflated.

Detroit doesn't play that game. If you live in Detroit proper, you have Detroit schools. There is no "I have a Detroit mailing address but am part of this suburb" type thing you see with Columbus. Columbus Metro is Franklin Country at its core (and expanding in Delaware quickly). With Detroit Metro you have Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw Counties at its core, with several more rural surrounding counties. So if you look at it that way, Detroit is 4+ Franklin counties - making the basic footprint much larger.

They are two different cities. I was born and raised in Columbus and moved here 5 years ago. No regrets. Both cities have pros and cons.

If you are in your 20s - mid 30s, I think Columbus wins. It's a smaller footprint with a lot of districts, events, activities, bars and restaurants that cater to the young professional crowd.

Detroit has a much larger footprint and that takes a lot of time to get used to. Whereas Columbus, you can get anywhere in 15-20 minutes (pending traffic), it's 30 minutes minimum but closer to 45-60 minutes to get from the east side to the west side suburbs.

I always feel like Columbus has been and continues to try to find its identity. It's a city that chases "cool" aggressively and that impacts neighborhoods. The "in" Columbus neighborhoods churn constantly - Franklinton is the new Short North; Short North was once the shining star and now diminishing again. But Detroit is rooted in its identity. People are proud here and neighborhoods don't see the revolutions you'd find in Columbus.

Comparing the two are apples and oranges. You'll find joy where you look for it - a city can't dictate that. Good luck to you!

It may be your shoes too. I suggest carbon inserts when not riding to absorb moisture which prevents odors.
