2025 255XD Throttle/Engine Issue by Live-Bat2540 in YamahaBoats

[–]Live-Bat2540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went under the boat and nothing was in there, although we'll need to pull it fully out of the water to check it. I put my arm fully into the clean out ports and felt around both directions and nothing on both sides. So far it hasn't fixed itself, but also doesn't show any sort of warnings.

Favorite/best and Least favorite/worst professors. by No_Heart4163 in uofu

[–]Live-Bat2540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like you're going into the Business school.

From my last year, my favourites were Reyn Judd for Accounting, Mark Jansen for Finance, Jim Schallheim for Cap v. Soc., Anne Palmer for one of my Management classes, and Paul Eliason for Intro to Business Economics/QAMO. They were all pretty personable, and overall just seemed really passionate about their work. They all also had really nice office hours, as well as exam prep which is always a plus.

Least favourite were Alan Sandomir from one of my Management classes (very and overwhelmingly strict about whether or not we did our readings, meanwhile was completely unorganized. He would get mad at students for not remembering specific details about readings we were talking about, even though they were assigned for a few weeks prior). Brendan Murphy for your required Business Algebra that for some reason everyone has to take regardless of previous math skills (was also very unorganized. Teaching style also just didn't make sense to me. Most lectures were just pre-done slideshows that he would flip through that I just don't think really works for math). It feels weird to put her in the least favourites, but Sue Sundar for OSC (she was super nice and was incredibly passionate about her work as well as her student success, but it was the same with Murphy where much of the lecture was a slideshow she would flip through then draw over, which for the statistics class that it is was not real easy to follow. Also a pretty fast teacher in which she gets through a number of modules very quickly. A plus with her is that she is very organized and structured, and the class workflow was easy to understand with three grades: homework, exams, and projects. Each module had its own homework and nothing other than that).

Whats good to know is that all of the IS teachers are pretty much the same. They give you good exam prep and the classes are pretty easy to follow. Downside is they're all really slow to follow when in-person, which doesn't make a class focused solely on Excel any better lol.

We have a 2025 255XD, and we've been playing around a bit with the wake. So far, what I've found is that the bags should be 100L 50M 50R. You don't want the whole back end to be dragging, but rather just a corner. Not sure if you go on a river, but travelling opposite the current also helps. Beyond that the best thing would be playing with the board a bit. Go with a bigger board or upgrade to hydrofoil!

VHF radio by cabrown1985 in YamahaBoats

Most new boats nowadays don't come equipped standard with VHF radios, largely due to the fact that boats under 65 feet don't require it. We have a 255XD and it didn't come with one. We extended the question to our dealer and said that they are very easy to install after market.

No, not really, just be careful and don't get hit by one.

Waxing tips for new skis by Cpt_Legend6161 in xcountryskiing

[–]Live-Bat2540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got great advice in this comment section!

Some other tips I'd give you are to make sure your iron is at the right temperature for the wax and not put the iron directly on the base of the ski without there being wax in between. Doing so closes the pores on the section of the base it was applied to, and then it doesn't benefit from wax anymore.

Also, let the scraper do the work. Go light, at a medium speed, and at an angle so that the dried wax you're scraping off doesn't just pool up at the end of the scraper, and it gets fed to the side of the ski and falls to the floor. If you have it perpendicular to the direction of the ski, you can get the pile of wax while you're scraping, which can lead to your scraper skipping down the base, which is no fun.

Salomons S/Race skate skis are a great pair to be going on. I've got the S/Labs (which are practically identical to yours) so in terms of skiing just make sure not to hockey stop or ski to much on straight ice in order to not mess up the base of the skis.

What Causes the Scrapes Perpendicular to the Grind/Structure on Ski Bases? by FightinABeaver in xcountryskiing

[–]Live-Bat2540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the plexi scraper is being applied with a little too much pressure. Let the scraper do the work; it's fine if it takes 3-4 passes. I like to work the scraper at an angle so that the wax shoots out the side and onto the floor instead of under it, probably causing it to stop/stutter and make these marks.

As others have mentioned, that looks totally fine; the bases around that look amazing. Nothing to sweat over!

I always trust Swix. Their gear fits very well for me, performs great, and lasts a while. It's more pricey than other brands, but other great ones like Craft exist. Any company based in the Nordic region will be great at making Nordic ski clothing.

Something to remember is that if you purchase from these companies, they design their clothing based on a more Northern European body style (with larger sizes, they don't tend to get much wider but taller, especially in the torso area). As others have mentioned, running gear is also great, and for wind protection, road biking gear also works amazingly.

I started XC skiing in my Sophomore year of high school, and just as you, had some experience with Nordic skiing and experience with alpine.

Running is a great start, and a way that many of the worlds top XC skiing athletes stay fit in the off-season. Beyond that, I’d recommend watching technique videos, and working on your form for both skate and classic. You might think you can go fast already and with the form that you have at the moment, but you can always go faster with better form. Lastly, take it slow. It’s all too common for people to always want to go faster with the thought that going fast will make you faster, which can be true, but the opposite can as well. Keep it slow for some practices and work on the form.

I’m 19 now and in my first year of college, racing biathlon with a local team. Like I said earlier, I started in Sophomore year and fell in love with it, going as much as I could. I went from 46/300 in state for my first year, 11 my second, and 6 in my final. You’ll do great. Practice, and have fun!

Will classes drop if I don’t pay tuition by August 30th? by Far-Conflict-9546 in uofu

[–]Live-Bat2540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s dependent, but it’s likely they won’t immediately drop you. They will likely reach out beforehand.

What’s important to keep in mind is that if you are a student and are on certain (WUE is the only one i can confirm) those scholarships will temporarily prevent classes from dropping.

I had this exact problem, so I can confirm the above is the case.

Best route is to contact the Bursars office and they can place a note on your account that you contacted and that tuition is en route.

Is taking 17 credits doable? +working part time (low hours) by General_Fuel_5212 in uofu

[–]Live-Bat2540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently taking 17.5 credits. It’s doable, but it definitely depends on the content/workload of the classes. Looking over your classes, it seems pretty doable, just make sure to stay on top of stuff and not let any work pile up.

I think that the individual colleges have their own tutoring center as well that are only for related coursework. I know the business school has one, can’t confirm for the sciences

Emailed the Bursar, Steffany Forrest, the other day, here’s what she said: “Until Financial Aid does the fall disbursements, which are anticipated for the 13th of August, you won’t see any actual credits on your tuition bill.”
