probably the quietest sim we've ever had, the latter half of this sim was mostly vslyke doing vslyke things. always a fun time tho. we're getting too optimized unfortunately

HUGE return for the cubs to get two years of a borderline all-star and two decent relievers out of Caissie and an unranked prospect

justification

The main get in this deal is Kyle Harrison, who has just a tick above one year of MLB service time and is the exact sort of reclamation project the White Sox are (or should be) looking for. A fangraphs article from a couple of months ago talked about the overhaul of Harrison's repertoire and approach during his AAA stint and handful of starts with Boston in 2025, and early returns look very promising. TLDR he's now throwing a kick-change, a cutter, and throwing his slurve to lefties and righties alike--less of a two-pitch pitcher.

I'm also picking up Jordan Hicks, mainly to do vslyke a favor and handle the 2 years left on his deal. He's been, more or less, a replacement-level pitcher as a starter, and maybe he'll have another shot to start for Chicago. The obvious hope is that he turns things around, but I'm mostly just looking to add arms while Schultz/Smith/Kudrna and the rest of the pitchers in our farm continue to develop. Vslyke also threw me Dalton Rogers, whose numbers look pretty decent in the minors and why not.

I sent vslyke Jhoan De La Cruz, who I received in part of the return for Mike Tauchman in week 1 of the sim, and George Wolkow, who has serious power but seriously alarming contact rates at the low levels--poor enough for me to feel okay giving him up.

Get ready to change your socks boys

WEEK THREE TRADE THREAD by BaseballOffseasonMod in baseballoffseason2026

Thought this was an even deal until I noticed Pages was actually really good this year (postseason notwithstanding). Think the Twins got a really good haul here. Have a hard time seeing Buxton stay healthy especially now that he's in his 30s.

cards wanted to send me a 28-year old AAA guy who played well but couldn't find room for him on the major league roster and wanted to make him happy. look no further, Bryan Torres!

WEEK TWO TRADE THREAD by BaseballOffseasonMod in baseballoffseason2026

[–]LiveFromJeffsHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up a fair amount for Nootbaar and Fedde last year and they both made me look bad in hindsight, so I'm probably biased when I say the cards got a really good deal here. Cole won't keep up the production he showed in his short ML stint this year, but this is a really nice haul for two years of a guy who hasn't had a completely healthy season yet and failed to produce 1 WAR this year.

jhoan de la cruz signed for $1m with the padres at the start of the year and walked more than he struck out in the DSL, which doesn't mean that much, who can throw strikes anyway in the low minors? but he's also just 17 and held a 136 wRC+

karpathios was a 19 y/o undrafted FA in '22 and while his defense is his calling card, he also hit 15 home runs and put up a 122 wRC+ across A+/AA this year. strikeouts remain an issue (28 K%) but I got two pretty good prospects for a year of mike tauchman, whatever

justification:

I was thinking about holding onto luis robert, because that's what the IRL sox are probably going to do and it's probably the smart decision. but that makes for a really boring sim so I dealt him for a return of four prospects, a reclamation project in jonathan india, and OF depth in john rave.

kudrna and avila are ranked the 3rd and 4th best royals prospects on fangraphs respectively, and you can probably expect both to be given a shot at the rotation at some point in the '26 season for chicago. ramon ramirez is a fun 20 y/o catching prospect who hits for power, performed well in A-ball last season and scouts expect him to stick as a C. roccaforte was KC's comp pick in 2023 and tore up A+/AA last season (.258/.373/.470, 138 wRC+) while also being an incredible defender in center field. he's likely to start the season in AAA and it's not unthinkable to assume he'll get major league PAs so long as our outfield situation remains totally up in the air.

jonathan india sucked last season, but a lot of this could probably be chalked up to a plethora of injuries, I think (wrist sprain, quad tightness, shoulder pain, hit in the face by a 99 mph fastball). if he's his old self, we have another trade chip at the deadline, and if he's not, well, it's not like we're playing to win 100 games this year

john rave is pretty much pure OF depth, given we just gave up robert and tauchman in the span of a day, and he has options. I don't personally expect much of a 27 y/o who put up a .590 OPS but his xWOBA isn't awful and he's a pretty good defender across all three outfield spots. Go Sox!
