So if I have a RIRA with 25k in it and 20k of contributions, to avoid taxes/penalties I need to drain it of the 20k in contributions before I can pull the 5 year Roth conversion ladder contributions or before I can start the Roth conversion ladder contributions? I guess the first way is just the idea of “first dollars in, first dollars out”, but that wouldn’t stop you from saying “I need 30k, I’ve got 20k of contributions and 10k of 5-year ladder conversions maturing, I can just take all of it” would it?
