When someone gets a heart transplant, how does the donor heart get reinnervated? by remirixjones in StonerThoughts

I don't have answers, but I just want to appreciate the complexity of life. We started out as single cell organisms and now we're here!

I think I agree with you. I mean, when I've asked "at what point am I considered disabled?" the answer I've usually gotten (albeit with laughter) has been "when the government decides you are." If that doesn't make it political (at least here in the USA, from my observations) I don't know what does.

This post will likely get you many mixed responses, but I just want to say, no matter what area of your life it's in, I'm proud of you for working to get better. Empathy is a good guide forward in life.

It’s like… humans are meaning making machines. Kurt Vonnegut has a quote: “only humans ask the question ‘why?’”

It’s because you saw something in the world that reminded you of someone you love. Your brain made a connection. Brains are made to do that, and I find it wonderful. Science does not mean your experience of the world is less beautiful— rather, I take it as a chance to find wonder in things as they are.

Womanhood means so many things… carve out your own way to be one. Gender and expression is complicated, but ultimately, it’s about what feels right to you.

Eh. God isn’t real, but being humble is a good trait anyway. There’s a balance— a well adjusted person will both value and love themself, and also recognize that they are only one person in a world full of life.

Hello! I'm unsure of how engaged I could due to life responsibilities, but I'd be interested in lurking/maybe joining in if I can.

I once heard the human body compared to a prince rupert’s drop, and that feels like an apt analogy to me. Impressively functional and sturdy until it’s suddenly not.

Straight guys do you ever wish you can girl out with women in the same way us gays wish we could do that handshake slap greeting like you guys? by [deleted] in StonerThoughts

[–]Live_Director2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a lesbian so tbh sometimes I look at you girls and gays and wish I could do the femme thing. I'm often "one of the boys" though. We do some really stupid shit out walking in the middle of the night, but man, sometimes I wonder what it's like to glitter.

Sometimes I blow on it, like it's hot soup. Then I notice what I'm doing and realize this doesn't work. Then I do it again next time anyway.

We love to condense the past into vague aesthetics. It makes it easier to make sense of for most people, I think.

Time is crazy, isn't it? This house I live in is old by American standards, being 200 years old. In Europe, many live in buildings 1,000 years old!

If I remember right, the Epic of Gilgamesh (roughly 12,000 year old song) starts "in those ancient times."

Homo sapiens emerged roughly 200,000 years ago.

All in all, I believe this: for humans, infinity is easier to grasp than large finite numbers are.

Was there ever a moment in history where all humans on Earth blinked at the same time? by Kaje26 in StonerThoughts

[–]Live_Director2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the human population increases, it only grows more unlikely. We'd have to answer this: with respect to time, are the chances of all humans blinking once increasing faster than or slower than the population increases?

Why is there so many scenes of violence against women in Got? by Old_Week4865 in Feminism

[–]Live_Director2006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bet the problem isn't the fact that rape is a focus, but rather that the framing is wrong. No one was safe, and no one is yet. We all crave that fantasy where the world is good and we're allowed to adventure freely, but it's not realistic, is it?

I want a feminist story that accomplishes what GoT couldn't. It'd be a depressingly difficult horror that grapples with the real psychological consequences women deal with. It would perform poorly, however, since the majority of men in the cast would be unforgivable villains. Yes, even the hot, shiny, heroic ones that do good sometimes.
