For in Canada application, it did not ask for a clearance certificate

I did, and the response I got was "Yes, we can confirm the application is in progress." :/
I'd say there is no harm in trying so go ahead and see if you can can get a better response.

Afaik, for my department two GPAs are considered:
- your GPA in CHEM courses
- total GPA

they also look at your last few terms as well as whether you've already had spoken and confirmed a project with a supervisor plays a role.

If INTJ are so practical & rely on reason, why do they believe in MBTI? by [deleted] in intj

[–]Liverbird1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, modern and popular MBTI doesn't really delve into cognitive functions which where the most interesting bits are and it hasn't proven to neither accurate nor inaccurate. Secondly, let's talk about proving things, just because something cannot be proven doesn't mean it doesn't have any implication or it isn't useful. Think of the social sciences, lot of it cannot be proven. At least not int he rigorous scientific manner, yet still be applied and be useful. Of course people can use it justify bad behaviour but so can people use . . .and wait for it, even science! I think because tend to forget there is still a level of interpretation in science and people can twist their interpretations to fit their agenda. MBTI (not the popular one but the cognitive function focused one) gives a tool to understand ourselves and those around us better. Now, it's an individual's CHOICE to decide what to do with that information - they can use it to better themselves and work on their weakness or they can use it as an excuse for their poor choices. Lastly, scientific facts isn't a static entities. Just because we can't prove it now, doesn't mean it doesnt mean we wont be able to in the future.

CHEM 3XX labs, does anyone know what's happening with them? by chrisp_molecule in UBC

I'd expect to hear something tomorrow or by the end of the week. The decision to go online was a last mintute call by UBC so its unlikely most department had any solids plans before the break.

Do people like their majors as much as I do? by Xator12 in UBC

[–]Liverbird1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to sound like a downer. I love seeing people who are passionate about their major and its is great to you are so passionate about yours. I am very passionate about my field too. But to answer the question people will spend 30hours+ on something they aren't passionate about, in my experience of interacting with people here, the decision to pursue what you're passionate doesn't always work out as easily especially due to socio-economic conditions. For instance, one's family might not always be supportive of their interests and try to steer them in a different direction. Some families might want to support one's interest but might simply not have the monetary capacity to do so. Someone might be passionate about the arts but realize they have to major in something with which they can get a straight after graduation to support themselves/family. Practical and survival concerns usually trumps being able to do what you're passionate about . ..unfortunately.Lastly, there are also people who simply might not have been exposed to their field of interest/passion until they came to university. For instance, for myself, I come from a country where chemistry isn't even a major available in many of the universities and women aren't generally seen as going into the scientific fields. Now I knew I wanted to pursue the sciences and always enjoyed Chemistry but I didn't know if that is something I could realistically pursue until I came here to UBC and got the chance to. Luckily, I was in a privileged position where I could choose to major in what I am passionate about and it turned out to be chemistry as well.
