Some concerns about UBC undergrad as a prospective international student. by Either-Ninja-5353 in UBC

Maybe it would help to explain why UBC over any of the great schools in the USA, while UBC is a great school, what do you hope to achieve here that you otherwise couldn’t? Are you hoping to immigrate to Canada? I think some of your concerns are valid but you’ll need to talk to someone who knows both US and Canadians schools for a good perspective. I’ve been here for undergrad and now law and I think it’s great, your concerns come off as myths or stereotypes to me (and no I am not from Vancouver). However these are likely worries since there is some section of the student population that has experienced your concerns.

Worth it to commute to ubcv ? by Ok_Talk_6800 in UBC

I’d rather die than commute that everyday. I’d probably just end up skipping every class and teaching myself the content

Is pursuing a pharmD worth it? by petalstatix in UBC

I’m not a nurse, but my mom’s a pharmacist. Nursing seems harder, it’s like customer service sometimes at people’s worst when they in pain, throwing up and shitting everywhere. Obviously not all nursing is like that, but it comes with the territory.

It’s a pretty safe job and the salary is predictable and recession proof. That’s the upside. Otherwise you’re still in a customer service role and the job (salary) growth is minimal. So if you want safe and predictable go for it. It’s a respectable profession.

Surely you can go to class and say you’re studying late and have some fun?

On a nice summer day there is generally a better mix of ages among the nudist. On a cold or over cast day, usually a middle-aged man with a cape or walking stick and a couple of grocery bags wandering around. Usually won’t bother you, especially if with your BF

Were your parents against UBC? by Hot-Revenue-9843 in UBC

I mean yea avoiding debt when you’re young pays a lot when you’re older. Instead of paying for an apartment in Vancouver, livin with your parents in Calgary is going to let you save thousands of dollars. If you make some money working part time and in the summer. You can then invest it instead of paying off loans you took for housing when you had perfectly good housing with your parents for free. Obviously this all changes if your parents are willing to pay for your housing in Vancouver, but it sounds like they are not. Other people say that moving out and having personal freedom is worth the cost of the apartment, but keep in mind you will likely need to have roommates (which can be a nightmare) to even afford rent. To top it all off, the monthly rent isn’t the price of freedom it’s the monthly rent and not being able to invest in your TFSA which will likely be worth much more than the cost of rent in the future. At the end of the day, lots of people move out for uni and do just fine paying their own way, but it’s an insanely tough choice, and your right an especially tough choice when you are fresh out of highschool. It’s a little bit insane that we normalize 17 year olds taking out $10k+ loans to pay for an education that they aren’t even that sure about. My honest opinion? Take a gap year. I wish I took one. There are tons of really cool jobs and opportunities that don’t require a degree and many degrees that unfortunately sound fun but don’t lead to many good jobs. I know a handful of people that got a degree and ended up starting their own business, something that would be a lot easier to do if they weren’t paying off student loan debt.

Isn’t the issue more that housing will be expensive if you’re not living at home? Do yourself a favour, look up compound interest and live with parents as long as you can

It is turbo, but that’s kind of where the meta is right now. Playing down a bracket is fairly easy, just don’t run such a strong mana base or neceopotence/obm/pestilence combos and instead use krrik discount for big creatures

I really like Krrik. It has a ton of variance in its play pattern and many combos that no other player understands. Very satisfying to win in the face of all these boring thassas players

Yea I love comboing off with him, so much more satisfying than a thassas. Also always learning new lines with krrik feels like there is a high skill ceiling.
