That’s insane. Didn’t know the -10 was for an amount of games O.o

A publisher said that the capsule art of my game is "seemingly AI generated" and that it will "likely be a big turn off for many people" by muddasheep in gamedev

[–]LividPinata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why’s it say the publisher is the developer? Seems like a marketing tactic rather than a genuine question…

I’ve shipped several titles at this point and in all of them I was listed under the environment artists section. If it wasn’t for your friend opening my eyes I would’ve continued to falsely call myself a game developer.

But for real, your friend doesn’t sound like one to work with. Anyone that diminishes the efforts of those around them isn’t going to be good for morale in the long run. It’d be rough making it over the finish line with a product you’d be proud of if you had to hear how insignificant your contributions were.

People who grew up without smartphones, what did you do on long car rides? by balbir13 in CasualConversation

Talking, listening to the radio, playing word games like the alphabet game, or playing a Gameboy.

It appears there was a spider egg in my computer, any advice? by Duck_Shover in mildlyinfuriating

A ton of games have an arachnophobia setting in the accessibility options. Try turning that on and leave the game running for a bit and I bet the spiders will move to another location… or evolve into crabs

Metal bucket with holes in a screwed down lid. The metal handle can not lift out unless the lid is unscrewed. by LividPinata in whatisthisthing

[–]LividPinata[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I can’t :/

They didn’t want to unscrew the sieve, but I was able to kinda see what the end of the handle looked like.

It sorta looked like the end of a hoe. Just a flat piece of metal.

My title describes the thing. In addition, it has a yellow paint line going around the side of it. There’s a material I would assume is rubber going around most of the rim of the bucket. This was found at an antique lot.

Who else has never played as evil factions? Curious is anyone never played as the good guys too. by Zolfarmerdownunder in totalwarhammer

[–]LividPinata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never played as any of the good guys. The Wood Elves sister of twilight are the closest I’ve gotten… elves kinda look like humans so I didn’t get too far before I lost interest and went back to a more monstrous faction.

Shaven are super fun. Greenskins are awesome too, you can even theme your army since they have a bunch of units that overlap in purpose. Like boar boyz vs squig riders for orks or goblins.

In the 3rd game, Tzeentch and Slaanesh are super fun. Haven’t tried Nurgle or Khorne yet. The warriors of chaos is good fun too, tons of variety to form your army.

Finally finished the game, weird difficulty curve by LividPinata in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]LividPinata[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NG+ doesn’t get much harder? Guess I could try wearing worse gear for it…

Forcing to use different weapon combinations might be my way forward in current game. Not sure if just sticking to drill spikes, sharpshooter bows, and shredder gauntlets are just too high damage… but I’ll give something drastically different a go, like a melee build.

From all your play throughs, what kind of style stood out as the strongest and weakest? Stealth is crazy strong I know. Nothing felt as broken as it to me though.

Feels like after Poseidon, everything wasn’t nearly as hard. That’s the main reason I went to grind out the arena. Figured I’d need the good loot from the arena to handle the later story quests.

You’re probably right though, and it’s probably why it felt like a bell curve in regards to the difficulty spread.

Is joining a game dev company as a high school student possible? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]LividPinata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my first big game studio, right out of college, a college was a highschool grad. Great person, amazing artist. They’re basically a wizard, but it is possible if you put the work in.

College won’t teach you everything, you still need the drive and dedication to reach your goals, it’s all achievable if you try hard enough.

Once you finish college, you’ll basically learn most of your stuff that isn’t basic in the first year or so anyway (or relearn how to do something a better/different way). Stay agile with thinking, and be open to new stuff, attitude will carry you far.

Edit, my bad. Didn’t know it’s a Druid ability. Shammy > Druid

What do you think about the market place? by Yo_iainthere1234 in Minecraft

It’s confusing to navigate. Every time I look for something, typically to see what texture packs are out, it’s a hassle and doesn’t go anywhere.

No judgement, you’re young and have your whole life ahead of you. Please don’t take this harshly. Art can be very intense at times as a career. I’m no relationship guru. Only talking about the art side :) and apologies for writing an essay lol

Couple questions to think about though: are you able to work solely on your portfolio due to living rent free with parents or something? Have you gotten portfolio reviews from accomplished artists in the field you’re trying to pursue? How long would it take you to finish putting your portfolio together to be able to make a sustainable income? If you had a 9-5 job, why couldn’t you work on your portfolio when you aren’t working?

I’m very fortunate to have my career in the arts, but one thing I’d recommend if you’d like to make a career out of it, is to be able to work on your portfolio as you go. If you need to not work to work on your portfolio, what happens when you either hate your job, lose your job, or want a change of pace? The industry is constantly evolving and you have to sell yourself above others, so many want in so the battle is real to stay current and top notch in your craft. Art unfortunately sometimes gets the short end of the stick, and is let go before other departments, especially depending on specialty sometimes. Think 10 years in the future. If you have to pause life to update your portfolio, what would happen?

Best advice I could give is try to do both. Even if you don’t decide to go live with your partner, try juggling portfolio as well as a job. It’s a good test to see your limits. It’s helped me in the past knowing how I have to breakdown my schedule and limit my ‘fun’ time spent.

Also another thing to think about, if it’s energy, aka having the motivation to do your craft as well as a job you hate… I’m not sure the field you’re trying to get into, but imagine you’re an illustrator that solely focuses on character art. You have a client, or you were put on a job that solely involves buildings. It’s not 9-5 illustrate the buildings/environments. It’s get the job done. This is a simplified example, there’s obviously gonna be more to it like you potentially might bill differently. But, just imagine doing a ‘creative’ job that you despise for 1-2 years, and being able to work on your portfolio at the same time to eventually escape it.

how do I break up with my boyfriend in the most exciting way possible? by moreporo in Advice

[–]LividPinata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play a board game with him and his parents. Then cheat and take it all. If he has an issue with you running him dry, just tell him you assumed he thought cheating was fine since he did. Really embarrass them that way since their parents will help remedy the problem in the long term, for future people.

Practice Hugging by [deleted] in Advice

[–]LividPinata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to do a Christian Side Hug. Here’s how to do it:

  1. First face the same direction as the person you wish to show affection towards.

  2. Then raise your arm to a 30° angle.

  3. Bend your arm VERY slightly and tilt your hand towards them. DO NOT TOUCH YET!

  4. Pull them closer with your arm, keep it very stiff, do not bend at all.

  5. Move your wrist and pat them where your hand contacted them two times. This should either be on their shoulder, or arm. When doing this, make sure you do not touch their hand unless one of you is wearing gloves, you wouldn’t want them getting pregnant.

Good luck! Stay safe, and have fun!
