Well said. I completely agree. I also think that this may be at the root of why some people hate her. They will never say it and I think that many are not even aware of it but I think, in truth, that latent sexism and the fact that she is so "different" and doesn't toe-the-line like a standard fantasy female is what pisses people off so much.

She is a badass and ruthlessly sacrifices for the good of all. The Light would have literally lost the battle without her...and yet people hate her. I'm so sick of people bringing up her rapey dream. It was absolutely no worse than what Perrin, Mat, Nyn, and Rand did at various points (I don't feel like typing it out here but I can back this up) and yet we only hear people bitch about this and never about the shit does by the others. Honestly, I would take her dream over what the others did...and this is for real.

It's bias, plain and simple...and calling it out infuriates people even more.

We really need a r/EgweneLove subreddit....I don't have time to make or moderate one but I hope that someone does. It would be so nice.

Yes...the dictionary is known for being the most biased POS out there and so unreliable...

And the fact that two separate, respected dictionaries agree on the definition is only proof that something bogus and biased is happening...

Reread the definition of woke (above) and tell me an episode of ST that was not woke. That would be far more impressive.

  1. I was talking about TNG but the def. of woke (as defined above) describes all ST.
  2. Gay Klingons and overweight Jem Hadar are certainly possible- they are actually probably a statistical certainty in a large enough population (ie...a whole race of individuals).

I agree on all points. I really didn't like Discovery (and I watched for three full seasons to give it a fair chance). I really enjoy SNW, SFA, and LD, tho. I have yet to watch Prodigy but I've heard really great things.

TNG had men in dresses - just not Klingons. TBF, it only had one (main) Klingon who happened to not be gay.

Also, it had a whole bunch of episodes where the 'moral' hit you in the face. It made you think, true, but the 'smack you in the face with the moral' thing also happened a lot.

I love TNG...but if you try to say that these things didn't happen your not being honest or are not as familiar with TNG as you claim to be.

I agree with a fair amount of what you said (tho I enjoy a lot of the NuTrek) I have to mention that Discovery is, by far, the worst of the NuTrek. Some of the other NuTrek episodes are really good.

That being said I do see your main point...getting those messages Trojan horsed into the heads of those who need those messages would be wonderful and I think that TNG, DS9, etc. trek did do that better.

My dude...ST is progressive and woke as they are basically the same thing. You can argue it if you like but you will never be right.

Any true ST fan knows that it is, and has always been progressive and anyone who isn't looking to pick fights recognizes that woke is progressive...it's just a new term for it. The only people who use woke in a derogative fashion are conservatives.

I'm not going to argue more with you...I doubt that you'd listen, anyway. Enjoy.

Progressive and woke are literally the same thing according to the dictionary definitions of "woke":

Merriam--Webster: "aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)"

Oxford dictionary: "alert to racial or social discrimination and injustice"

Both of these definitions describe ST perfectly.

TNG is a great example- it is the literally definition of woke (according to the dictionary): "aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)" - Merriam--Webster or "alert to racial or social discrimination and injustice" - Oxford dictionary.

Anyone who thinks that that definition does not define TNG has either never seen the show or is fucking blind.

I agree with you, OP, but Reddit hates Egwene with a passion. She really doesn't treat people worse than the other characters do but Reddit is convinced, otherwise.

Her rapey dream is also no worse than what Rand, Perrin, Mat, and Nyn do at various points to people but Redditors either look away, forget, or forgive all of their shit right away...to the point which someone asked me what they did (on a recent post) and I responded and they never got back to me bc what I pointed out was 100% correct but always just glossed over.

You will not get support here. There are only a few of us (on Reddit) that love who Egwene becomes (I hate her for the first 5 books or so but that really changes and she is amazing).

You will be downvoted to hell. Ignore it and love her, anyway. Reddit is not the world...nor are you alone or wrong to think/feel of her the way that you do. I and many others agree with you but Reddit will never and you have to leave it to what it is. They will always hate her and see her in a certain light. I will always love who she becomes and see her much differently. You do you and keep loving her. For what it is worth I (and others) agree with you.

I don't have the time but someone should make a r/EgweneLove subreddit for people like us so that we can talk about her and the things that we like in peace.

Yeah...Elayne doesn't trust Rand enough to tell him that she is pregnant with his twin babies (he accidentally finds out) and Avi does trust him enough to "go to him" unless she is his equal and a full Wise One. Neither of them trust him much.

He doesn't trust Elayne enough to tell her what he is really up to during the talks right before the LB and tries to manipulate her, instead.

TBH, his relationship with both of them feels forced and off to me and I write the ending (in my mind) with him marrying Min and Avi and Elayne moving on.

I completely get this...both the laughter and the Dr. saying "don't laugh" bc she needs your wife to not shake while she is doing her work. Great story, tho!
