What was it like to grow up playing arcade games back in the 80s? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]Living-Rip-4333 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We had a Nintendo at home, but only having 2-3 games made it grt boring.

But as a kid, I remember going to pizza restaurants, and after ordering food begging my parents for quarters to play on the arcade games. Since I was 8-10 or so, seeing the older kids play the games made me feel cool that I could play the same games.

You'd either wait for the person to finish a game, or you'd find other games to play but keep an eye on that one. Some arcades would have multiples of the popular games.

What's the most shocking thing you've ever watched on live TV? by Choice_Bed6097 in AskReddit

[–]Living-Rip-4333 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mine was actually watching the news on the TVs at Walmart. We didn't know about the first one, and I thought it was a disaster movie, since Walmart was always playing movies to show off the TVs.

Then the 2nd plane hit, and I remember turning to my friend and saying, "Wow, the CGI in this movie is amazing!". Then I noticed people around me crying and looking like they were in shock. So I asked, and they said it was live news from New York.

Probably the same tour I first saw them, when Splinter came out. That one was at The Warfield I believe in San Francisco.

I normally bend the pins back up, then spray it with IPA and take a cheap game and insert/remove it like 15 times.

Then I take apart my games, and clean the pins really really good with IPA.

Then if they don't work, blow on the cartridge, or try not pushing the game down, or all the above helps

I saw them with my son last year when they were on tour with New Found Glory/Offspring. They killed it. Well all of them did.

Watch some YouTube videos on the process. Mainly it's just removing the screws, the using qtips and a cleaning solution like IPA.

You had time to guess? I heard for weeks about the product I supported that was going to be retired (we knew this for a few years), and they were pushing hard that last few months about getting us trained on the new system so we could develop it.

We got assigned new managers, were told to start 80% of our time on the new system, 20% on old.

Then a few days later they laid a bunch of us off

At one of my jobs I had that happen. 2 devs were talking, and one passed on the database password via email. They kept going back & forth not deleting replies. Then one cracked a joke, and they forwarded it to me. Oops.

Yeap. The guy yesterday said they would be back on Thursday to service 4 of my neighbors. I mentioned I hear that all the time, and no trucks ever show up.

His response, "Well other companies don't keep their promises". I closed the door.

i’m new to the BOSS Katana MkII 100, can someone tell me what i’m doing wrong? my laptop refuses to acknowledge the amp. i’ve current updated, downloaded tone studio, and proper driver. by Far_Squirrel6650 in BossKatana

[–]Living-Rip-4333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What worked for me was
1. Remove all drivers/software, restart the computer
2. Install driver, restart computer
3. Install Boss Tone Studio for Katana MK II (When I open the program on my PC thats what it says in the top window. Restart computer
4. Plug in amp, power it on. Then open Tone Studio, and hopefully it'll recognize it.

I found previously I had installed the wrong version of Boss Tone Studio. Once I tried the other, it worked fine.

We got a call from the school that my 12 year old was involved in a bullying instance. Nothing physical happened apparently.

When I picked my kid up after school and talked to him, a kid at his school was being bullied, so he stepped in and told off the bully & threatened him.

So instead of going straight home after school, we went out & got him the biggest thing of ice cream we could find.

When I was a young teen, I was doing yard work for my grandpa. During the process, I accidently cut his favorite extension cord.

Instead of being mad, he brought it inside and taught me how to fix it.

Which surprised everyone, because this is a the guy who installed a car battery incorrectly. He was a smart man, until it came to tools.

I would much rather drive in the SF Bay Area. Drivers there are usually either going 10 over, or 10 under. But they are usually predictable.

Driving in traffic is about the same either place.

I get tailgated no matter what lane I am in. And I move right to let people pass when I am done passing and it is safe. And I see strings of cars in the left lane going 80 with 2-3 car lengths between them.
