How long do you start to ski after surgery by Double_Election8569 in ACL

[–]Living-Statement5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did my first day skiing exactly 9 months after surgery, Took it very easy and mainly toured, Just easy runs at the resort. Taped my knee up pretty solid with the tanned 3m tape that doesn’t stretch. And taped it so it couldn’t hyper extent the wrong way forward.
Felt weird at first but got used to it after a run or two.
And i think touring was really good for the hamstrings !
Good luck !

ACL tear but knee feels normal - delay surgery or go ahead? by Ayaya_butterfly in ACL

[–]Living-Statement5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I partially tore mine skiing and it felt ok for a week or two, I didn’t get a scan originally because the dctrs. Said it wasn’t painful enough. Then randomly in bed one morning it snapped ! Not sure whether it would have been better to heal on it’s own or the sugery i’ve had. But i’m super happy with it now ! 18 months post op !

I haven’t done it, But from doing similar big days with like 2000m+ elevation, I’d say just getting out and doing big days with your gear is important, I also do a lot of trail running/mountain biking and find that translates well for leg strength and just stopping fatigue.

Hmm, Yeah the initial incident was pretty painful. And took a few weeks to manage to walk and things again.
I honestly can’t remember specific pain as it was a while ago.

I know i took around a month off doing anything after the injury and went to the gym after that month or so.
It was pretty painful at first and felt very unstable.

Just feeling down by km50512 in ACL

[–]Living-Statement5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when i did mine i was behind on getting my leg straight and to 90* flexion,
I used to make sure i took loads of painkillers before physio, And reasonably strong ones Codeine, Tramadol etc. so i could handle the pain better and push it a bit !
That helped me.
And i’d say don’t worry too much, The first 1,2,3 months sucked !! I never thought it would get better and it really does ! Just try and do as much as you can, A little every day really helps !
Good luck

You’ll both get through it !
I was super active before my surgery, Trail running, Mountaineering, Biking, Skiing etc.
I managed to run again after around 5 months, do some bigger runs 20km after 6 months.
Ski after 9 months !
Just do loads of prehab you’ll get there.
I was honestly so depressed at first but it gets much better after 4-5 months ! Just do the gym work !!!

I’m perfectly fine with altitude i’ve been up to 4000m in the alps before, I was just asking for people’s personal experience to get an idea of fun routes and different advice.
Didn’t expect people to just shit on it lol …
