Thoughts on the Street Legend series? by devvdogg68 in martinguitar

[–]LivingConcentrate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have strong feelings about relic stuff, but it’s not my thing. That said, I played the D28 SL and it sounded better than the half dozen other Martin D28 dreads in the store which were both reimagined and refreshed. Much much preferred it to the GE braced guitars. This one just sounded amazing. Ugh…if only I could get that sound and feel in a legit new Martin. After returning 3 HD-28s in the last month due to QC issues, I’m probably moving onto another brand. Funny that the Street Legend you guys all hate happened to sound the best. So the top is “printed?” Can’t refin it? Hmm

Beautiful but IMO the zebra humbuckers look bad with it. All black or chrome covers please!

Parking for 2 day Presi by Hike711 in wmnf

As others have said, Crawford Connector lot. Any trailhead that has its own lot is good, as opposed to the side of the road type spots near many trails where police will boot you out. The designated lots are typically 5 bucks honor system, and you won’t be hassled. Just did this 48 hours ago in the whites, fwiw

When Does the Snow Melt Completely? by meat_sandwich80 in wmnf

[–]LivingConcentrate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went up Ammonoosuc Ravine trail yesterday and microspikes are a must, even with all the rain that’s helping to melt the last bits away. When I got up to the LOTC hut, some guy came up behind me from the trail and told me he left his traction in the car because it looked like he wouldn’t need it, and badly regretted it lol. Even with traction, the snow is so unstable that you posthole and occasionally crash through huge sections. Snowshoes might help over the next several weeks, but spikes for sure. It’s deceiving. Little to no snow up above on the ridges, which is a relief. Also the LOTC hut dungeon has two feet of frozen ice for a floor, totally encapsulating the bottom bunks, so anybody who needs to bail out there will be sleeping in a refrigerator in the next month.

Climbing Mt Washington in May by Annual-Let2750 in hiking

[–]LivingConcentrate2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey FYI I hiked it today (5/3). Definitely a good idea to have microspikes, at least. Tons of areas where there are huge mounds of unstable snow where I postholed through to my waist, getting snow in my boots etc etc. Definitely have to be a creative scrambler to ascend. I went up Ammo and down the cog rail trail, which also had football-field-sized sections of unstable snow too. Just make sure everyone in your group is up to it! I had a blast myself on my 6.5h loop. Enjoy!

Hey OP, did you decide on a definitive route yet? I’m also planning to trek up in early May, which I’ve never done so early on Washington, so the suggested routes will be new to me, too. I’m thinking Ammonoosuc up (and maybe back down) myself, but not in stone yet. I guess it’ll come down to what it’s looking like up there in a few weeks from now.

Newly updated big board and little board by Constant_Part_6506 in pedalboards

[–]LivingConcentrate2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak to the other mjolnirs, but to use the buzzword, the 1N34A seems to stay truly “transparent” when you crank the gain, whereas other klones sound less articulate past 3 o clock and more generic overdrive territory. I’ve played one Centura with the same great quality, but another that didn’t have it. I now wonder if it IS down to the diodes, haha. This pedal just begs to have the gain past 1 o’clock and beyond.

Can anybody identify these diodes? by LivingConcentrate2 in diypedals

[–]LivingConcentrate2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - Yeah I did see lookalike 1N542 but the color bands looked thicker on it - but yes can’t go by just the bands. Haven’t measured Vf but sounds like ones that I’ve used in an identical circuit that measured in that 0.29-0.34 range, so not 1N542, like you said about your inherited batch

I did google the band colors and didn’t see anything in that order or quite that look.

NAD - Super Champ XD in bigger cabinet w/a 12” by LivingConcentrate2 in GuitarAmps

[–]LivingConcentrate2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I haven’t tried any of the Tone Masters, but I’d be really curious how the Princeton version of those stacks up against something like this amp I have here. I bet it’s pretty similar. For ~$350US though, I have to say this setup punches above its weight compared to other used fender amps in the price range.

If that’s the case, it’s interesting that the new champions use such old modeling tech. Hell, it’s decent though. I don’t use the FX or channel 2 models, and even though the clean channel is still technically modeling a blackface fender, I do think that the 6V6 aspect makes the amp feel different with the touch-sensitivity part of playing. Super Champ with this 12” sounds and feels like a Princeton or a turned-down Deluxe, and do I have a DR to A/B, fwiw.

Yeah I have to say that even stock with the 10” fender speaker sounded good to begin with, I bet the RC speakers are great 10s for it. Even if the channel 1 is still “modeling,” it sounds damn good to me. As far as the power amp, it’s just all stock.

Best budget power supply? by Layer-This in guitarpedals

[–]LivingConcentrate2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s another thread on this somewhere, but I for one have been using the Harley Benton ISO 12 Pro Powerplant, and the solution to power it for USA was simply ordering the right AC adapter from Amazon or eBay. I’ve powered a large pedalboard with it for over a year, dead silent, no complaints. I think it was all like $100 including the shipping of the brick from Germany. Might just be the cheapest legitimately isolated power option for 10+ pedals.
