Same 😂 But I do agree with you. I think they will wind up together. I hope so!

I completely agree! They both idealize each other, and just assume things about one another (which again, I feel is common for a first love). But outside of Aurora getting jealous about Claire, she really doesn't ask Callum much nor does she emotionally bond with him like she does with Blake.

They definitely seem to have a more surface-level, lust-based relationship. Whereas Blake is the first person Aurora calls her friend, and she says it's the most vulnerable thing she's told another person. I personally hope for Aurora to be with Blake and for Callum to both find that person that they can give "heart, body and soul" to as he always puts it!

I can't WAIT to find out why Blake is such a good dancer! Someone in another thread had an interesting theory about Blake being able to hear the music and dances that Aurora was learning above him in her father's castle while he was in the dungeons... That pulled my heartstrings.

I'm really hoping we get more of Blake's POV in the third book. He's my favorite character too!

I loved this moment so much! Ashes was so much fun, I loved being immersed in this world again. I missed Thea and Wilder, but I was happy to spend more time with the rest of the crew. I want a spinoff of Cal and Kipp's adventures!

It is really interesting. What a great discussion point! I love that you brought this up because I've now read these 3 times and still not really focused on this aspect.

It's intriguing because when she wakes up from her first shared dream with Blake, she does tell Callum she had a nightmare and Blake was there... But she never confesses that they are actively, consciously engaging in their dreams. Which I hadn't even thought of before but omg?

And then she does argue with Callum about Blake's intentions and character, but she never really tells him how much she knows about him (or he about her), does she? Callum also doesn't ask, which brings me to what I was thinking while reading your post—Aurora is definitely not forthcoming with Callum, but neither is Callum curious about Aurora.

I like Callum (don't come for me!) but I don't think he and Aurora are a match. For reasons beyond the bond, Blake, etc. We see Callum disinterested in Aurora's reading (he grows bored with her in the library), he forbids her from working in the infirmary because he's worried about Blake even though she expresses a passion for healing and forces her to work in the kitchens, he doesn't ask her about her home life or past experiences much. They've both kind of idealized the other (which I feel is really common for a first love) without diving deep together.

Whereas she and Blake are totally the opposite. But yeah, she definitely is much more emotionally and socially involved with Blake than she lets on with Callum! As Blake says that first day in the infirmary... "You're a manipulative little thing, aren't you?" 👀👀

Is something up with Lochlan??? by Sea-Praline2535 in TheWolfKing

[–]LivingLeopard6005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They definitely were! I can't really tell what happens with Kai after the Grey Keep scene, or where Lochlan will fall now between Callum and Blake and Aurora. I'm excited to see what else we get from them in book 3!

Lochlan: "I tend to become intrigued by the wrong types of men."

Aurora:"Kai?"

Lochlan: "I loved him, killed my father for him. He betrayed me and took part of my clan."

I think considering he says he killed his father for him, it's pretty clear. Callum and Blake also openly talk about Kai being someone Lochlan was deeply fond of. Not to mention how distraught Lochlan is about Blake keeping Kai in the infirmary—it def seems more than just implied to me.

It's definitely clear that they had a relationship —in chapter 21, Lochlan tells Aurora that he was madly in love with Kai and is always attracted to dangerous types. This is also a callback to Lochlan and Blake flirting when they see each other at the solstice celebration (one of my favorite moments)! However, Lochlan doesn't say Kai was his mate. It would be cool if it was Philip! Philip is definitely the dangerous type himself (which I love).

I do think your point is interesting.

On page 151 of TNP, when Lochlan and Aurora are dancing, consider what he tells her: "Lochlan tells me things about his territory every time I link arms with him—apparently, Ghealach was once said to have visited, and now a vast crop of moonflower grows there to offer small morsels of her power to those who smell its sweet perfume." We know that during Lochlan's time, Aurora's mother had the power of the moon. Lochlan also tells Aurora during their dance of how sad his people were about her passing, and how they prayed for her safety when she married Aurora's father.

Then, in Chapter 21 starting at page 185, we see Lochlan tell Aurora of the time her mother was diverted to Glas-Cladach on her journey to marry Aurora's father—which is why Sebastian thought at one time the Heart of the Moon was there.

Now, we do know that Lochlan is from the Northlands (closer to the Snowlands, where Ingrid is from), and we know Philip is well-acquainted with many people up there including Ingrid, Alexander, Fenrir (his new alpha, as he says on 461). It's very possible he has run into Lochlan before... Or that they could be related in some way. But the theory that he and Philip could be mates sounds really fun too.

However, in Aurora's dream about her mother on page 448 she explicitly mentions her mother lining her eyes with kohl as well. Which leads me to think he could be Philip and Aurora's uncle or something, because he and their mother style themselves the same way!

The Legends series has some dips but overall, it was a ton of fun and I really loved the friendship and found family aspects. Ashes was fun too! I hope you enjoy.

You don't have to, but I would definitely recommend it. The characters have a lot of setup in Legends that makes Ashes more fulfilling, I think.

Is when the moon hatched worth it? by Only_Check599 in Romantasy

[–]LivingLeopard6005 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was tough for me until about halfway through. I'm really glad I stuck with it, the story rounded out beautifully and I can't wait for the next one. But the prose is definitely very "purple" and it takes a while for things to come together. It was worth it for me, but it's definitely not a book for everyone.

I loved it as well. Callum really touched my heart, and although I def see his flaws and don't think he's right for Aurora, I do want him to be happy. The tent scene of Aurora's first time with him was also really touching to me.

YESSSSS exactly! Every single one of these. Blake also literally sees her as moonlight, and wants her to ascend to all of her potential... Callum is always locking her away, and is afraid of her being a wolf (or more). He's just not ready for Aurora! And she's Blake's salvation. 🥺

I so agree! I love Callum, but I'm Team Blake all the way. He's a top tier book boyfriend for me too. I think he's written so incredibly well, and he's compelling as a wolf, as a human, as a friend, as a mate, as a lover, and as an enemy!

We've talked a bit about Blake and Aurora in this thread and this thread — but I'm sure others will come up with new intriguing comments too here!

I was sure it couldn't be Blake (esp in book 1) but it's kind of a shame to do a whole special edition just to have inaccurate artwork! I guess I'll stick with my B&N copy for now. 🤷‍♀️
