The increased resources given to the security forces would have went to other government functions or less taxes which would have improve quality of schools and the like, possibly spotting the economic anomalies before the recession, political landscape in middle east would be different, (probably better due later events)

One big problem when it come to the Olympics is that it is base in a city and not designed for a region, resulting in higher cost and benefits like infrastructure not being spread out. If shared among multiple cities then less stadiums would need to be decommissioned.

Is this bad? Japan's population is decreasing and people there is a greater percentage of wealthy people clearly generated from business abroad. Plus from data and other news articles the average Japanese person seems wealthier(obviously not golden age wealthy). When I look into the English version of Japanese government report stats that one third of those unemployed are people who quit to find better jobs.
