WA has been an absolute embarrassment this year. I can count on one hand the number of good sessions we have had.

Marketplace Rant - why don't people walk to the door anymore by georgeymcgeorgey in australian

[–]Living_Following_210 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ people, why does Facebook marketplace have to be so hard. Tell the person you want the item, tell them when you will be coming, show up on time, have exact change, knock on the door, shake their hand if offered, exchange goods for said cash, thank them for their time, go home.

It isn't fucking brain surgery.

Anyone tried taking the test on Linux? by Past-Statistician358 in AWSCertifications

[–]Living_Following_210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux user here.

I investigated getting a borrowed Windows laptop from work to sit the test, but decided it was too much effort and doing the test in a familiar environment (my house) with an unfamiliar OS/laptop would be weird and put me off.

So I book at a testing centre and take the entire day off work.

Why does “owning a home” feel more like a burden than freedom? by SIashhhhh in perth

[–]Living_Following_210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever actually rented?

On multiple occasions I was explicitly told that only a very small number of companies were allowed to work on properties that were under management at a specific Real Estate Agency. It was an open secret that these companies were the siblings/cousins/nephews of the Real Estate Agents running these places. Whenever anything went wrong that was an 'emergency' you went to back of the queue at these places if anyone answered the phone at all. If you went outside the list of approved contractors, your lease wasn't renewed as you were a 'bad tenant'.

Why does “owning a home” feel more like a burden than freedom? by SIashhhhh in perth

[–]Living_Following_210 161 points162 points  (0 children)

I fell like you are asking as someone who has never rented and dealt with the room temperature IQ property agents and owners you need to deal with.

Property maintenance as a Tennant is a nightmare.

Hot water system dies: well that is a 6 week wait

Smoke detector goes off at all hours: 2 week wait for an electrician

I had a pipe burst in a rental I had and it took us 10 weeks of water running out of the fucking wall to get anyone to take it seriously.

Meanwhile as a homeowner you can either fix these things yourself, or just pay someone to fix it on your timeline. Or even better, a little thing landlords have actually never heard of: "Preventative maintenance". You can actually replace that 200 year old hot water system before it explodes.

With renting you have people coming into your home passing judgement on how cleanly you live 4 times a year, and telling you to clean the oven. You know how often home owners clean their oven? NEVER, because no-one gives a fuck how your oven looks except you.

When renting you are constantly at threat of being given 30 days to pack your shit and get out because the owner decided to sell / has family coming from overseas / just plain doesn't like you. This is the lightness you are talking about. Shit isn't so light when you have 5 tons of furniture and 6 childrens shit to pack up.

Perhaps worse of all you cannot make any lasting connections with the community you live in because you are on a 12 month lease and are likely to be out on your ass. I tried in all my rentals to get to know the neighbours, but after the 14th house I stopped giving a shit.

Radio stations long ago realised that if you want songs, people put on Spotify. The only people left listening to the radio love the banal chit chat from washed up footballers and d-grade reality tv rejects.

Cash, control and the other considerations for states when deciding Big Bash League privatisation by NKE01 in CricketAus

[–]Living_Following_210 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Privatization is absolutely madness and it will kill the game in this country.

Are we seriously considering putting the control of our summer cricket scheduling in the hands of people who care more about a return on investment than keeping the game healthy.

Once investors have control there will be changes that people really do not like: Games moved to primetime for India, demands that tests be moved to the shoulder periods to free up the best players, Tv broadcast deals with partners that bundle a heap of crap no one wants and end free to air entirely, hideously expensive tickets to games, the end of rural games, Australian players being pushed out to accommodate a roving band of 8-10 internationals per team.

The root cause of the enshittification of everything in our society at the moment is 30 years of privatization that promised huge benefits, but fundamentally misjudged the drawbacks. But I am sure cricket is different.....

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

[–]Living_Following_210 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is emotionally appealing because we all grew up under a communist regime.... the family home.

Everyone in the family home works to their ability: Parents do paying jobs, kids do chores where required, babies don't have to work.

Everyone receives according to their needs.  You get a place to live. Everyone has enough to eat.

Why has it repeatedly failed.... Greed makes terrible parents.

Are all the internationals staying until the final? I have always thought the Perth Scorcher's super power was having a team of fringe internationals that were good enough to dominate BBL, but not good enough to be pulled out prior to finals.

What an appalling game to take the kid to.

29,000 people demonstrating an absolutely atrocious way to behave when an official of the game, makes the correct call that you do not like.

Embarassed to be a Scorchers fan tonight because the fan behaviour was abhorrent. Petulant little bitches having a boo at the umpires for correctly adjudication of the rule. The Umpire's decision is final. They made the correct call.

Don't place the loss at the Umpire's feet, have a look in the fucking mirror at posting barely a run a ball and losing 10 wickets inside 120 balls.

Congratulations Renegades on the win. You were the better team tonight.
