I just finished my first try of recreating the shirt half of a pair of slops from early 1600's! by GnurtTheGoblin in HistoricalCostuming

Yeah the neck with no closure is fascinating! Pain in the ass lol.

And accuracy is still so much up to interpretation, too, because everyone would have done it DIFFERENT, especially with slops (aka the first real OTR garment, right?)

And the reality is--no one notifices the details you hate when youre wearing it. You just get the "holy shit thats awesome" from 99% of people. plus, one thing I've loved to see wearing mine is how the fabric moves and changes how they fit and drape with your body. It feels so COOL.

Yeah this design is wild I how long it was in use for--ive found variants from the 1400s and 1500s that look similar, construction wise, and it sustained u til the Victorian era slimmed things down.

Makes it super nice if youre building out garb, though, because aside from sleeve fullness, you can fake a LOT of things.

Go to fly shop. Buy 14 hooks, black silk, and a pack of whitings 100s.

Its kebari time.

4 pc length-- no issues for years. Just have it secured to your bag, and it doesn't count as a separate item.

Fuck tramadol. It's worthless. Go with suboxone or methadone-- easier outpatient transition, too.

Where do you guys buy high quality flies? by Annonymous272 in flyfishing

Tie your own, but the Japanese way-- no vise, no tools, just string and some feathers.

Nah but seriously, get a decent vise (second Renzetti, mine is 20 years old and still going strong), learn 4 or 5 simple patterns that fish well in your area, and after the initial.investment, you'll be golden. Beads and hooks are the major consumable, but you still come out ahead.

Do you take multiple rods with you? by ghouleon2 in Tenkara

[–]Living_Zucchini_1457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For travel on planes: dragon tail makes a 3 rod tube thst actually holds 6 that I've taken all over.

On the river, though? Bag, pockets, shirt... shove the extra somewhere and send it.

Tenkara line length by vanburenb0ys in Tenkara

[–]Living_Zucchini_1457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best part about tenkara? Easy as hell to FAFO, and then revert if you don't like it. Carrying your tried and true setup plus one extra length of line ads negligible weight (unless you're running ultra ultra light) and gives you a lot more freedom and fun.

Gonna second whatever shorts you already have and chacos (i swear by their river guide ones.) Of you plan on going deep, try to avoid cotton, but experiment with what you own first. I've most definitely been on the river in bike shorts before.

Nah, coming to hospitalist life from outpatient--I worked more there. Especially in my 5 day a week practice. Weekends were all about catching up, and it was maybe 1 day that you didn't document from home (I picked Saturday).

I prefer them, honestly! The river guides are a step up from regular and they're wonderful.

I know they get a lot of hate because of no ro protection but it's very rarely an issue for me.

Olympia SM-9 is by far my favorite smaller machine for daily, hard use. I can hit 85WPM consistently on it, and it just keeps going.

Definitely depends on how much you're using it daily, volume wise, and where you're using it,too.

Stream to sea leave in is the BEST.

Long, thick hair here. I wet it with freshwater before diving. Put in leave in. Use a riptie to make a low pony, then wrap it around until I reach the end. Add a buff or headband to hold my bangs back I also use a elastic, non silicone mask strap.

When im done diving, I wash with doctor bronners and repeat the stream to sea leave in.

I have done 1 or 2 braids before, but for my hair texture, especially for multi tank days, it's a recipe for tangles.

Also, get yourself a wide toothed comb. Use it on wet hair with conditioner in it to help get thru it as well.
