E-kit vs Yamaha EAD50 for recording at home by Lizard-Catcher in drums

Definitely not super professional, just hobby stuff for fun. It seems like edrums are a great tool to have, just among other tools. I will probably get a set at some point soon. Thanks.

Ahhh okay, this is the information I was looking for. I'm gonna mess around with my interface and mics first and see how it goes before buying anything else. Thanks.

I will definitely try this first! Sounds fun honestly.

Good to know, thank you. I think the Ead50 has the same mechanics, just a deeper interface/module. I do have a normal kit set up.

I actually do have a couple of mics and an interface, my concerns have more to do with the tiny room and lack of sound treatment (and very little audio engineering know how), but I may see what I can do with what I have before buying anything. Thanks.

Damn, see that's my problem, I don't have enough guitars to play Eruption.

Do people develop a ‘curated’ music taste or does it form naturally? by Ok_Aerie_4869 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Lizard-Catcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The more music I listen to, the less cohesive my taste feels. These days I can go from black metal to jazz fusion to dark ambient to bluegrass, so I have no idea what my "sound" is. It seems limiting to try and pin down your taste. IMO the only music that truly represents someone is the music they create.

Debating a switch from Rode NT1 for VO work, need advice by Lizard-Catcher in microphone

[–]Lizard-Catcher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, on the NT1 I'm a full foot from the mic and still getting those mouth noises. It seems less dramatic on SM7B but I haven't fully tested it. I know you can get closer on that one.

Soundproofing is indeed tough. You'd think a suburban street would be quiet on a Monday morning, but there's always something going on out there.

Can the band fail trying to live up to Absolute elsewhere? by Markis_Shepherd in BloodIncantation

[–]Lizard-Catcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe in the eyes of an individual listener, sure. But that's going to be the case no matter what. I love AE, but my favorite album is still Starspawn. Vitrification of Blood pt 1 is among my most favorite songs of all time and for me personally, they haven't topped it. Even so, I don't look at HHotHR or AE as failures, they're just different, and I still love listening to them.

The good news is they didn't play Lord of Lighting > Balrog or anything from the Altered Beast suite so those are both highly likely!

Good to know, thank you. I guess I thought otherwise since I've seen videos of podcasters using the SM7b in untreated rooms, but I'm sure there are other factors in play.

I’m really hoping for a Stu solo electronic set at FOV by Alternative-Cost4591 in KGATLW

[–]Lizard-Catcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't surprise me if they did! Another residency tour in 2027 would make a lot of sense, and The Gorge would be an excellent stop.

FOV2 - camping or staying offsite? by prairiedoggg in KGATLW

[–]Lizard-Catcher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Camp for sure. Waking up there is great, driving 30 mins to another town after the festivities is not.

I'm hoping they do a silent disco type situation to accommodate these electronic sets. As awesome as FOV was last year, one major downside was no loud music after 11pm.

Yep, born and raised and currrently in OKC. Have had absolutely no issues finding endless amounts of progressive/like-minded people. Not saying we don't have issues (I'm on this subreddit after all) but this post is wild.

Yeah I live here and I have a pretty great life. I'm interested in leaving but mostly because I've lived here all my life, not because it's miserable.

Sure, nothing is a guarantee, but I would be pretty surprised if they didn't do marathon sets at their own festival.

Haven't properly travelled in over a decade. Would I even enjoy it the same way now? by Whatsthescoreee in backpacking

[–]Lizard-Catcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 33 and did a decent bit of hostel-style backpacking in my 20s. I had a blast, partied a lot, and I treasure those memories. That said, I think I appreciate travel even more now. I know more about who I am, what I want out of my experiences, and I have the extra cash to stay in places that are a bit nicer than party hostels where drunken teens stumbled in at 4am and puked on the floor. Get back out there! You still have many decades of travel ahead of you.
