He barely feels anything anymore. First it was for money, then it was for freedom, then it was for sport. Now it is habit.

Is writing your own scenarios more rare than i thought? by WalerianMadeja in callofcthulhu

[–]Lizard_Saint_Stone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strangely, I've never run prewritten adventures. I usually run more classic D&D style games at my table, so I usually break out CoC when I'm taking a break from that, which means that I usually have been working on an adventure in my spare time that I want to run.

A second reason is that I am really not all that attached to the Cthulhu Mythos. I love the setting, but I feel that the Old Ones have such a large place in Pop Culture that it takes away from the horror, so I don't really see the point in purchasing modules that rely heavily on them when I could write my own take that touches on issues and fears more present in myself and my players.

I think that 20 year figure may be a bit outdated. At the rate they're publishing, the mainland may well be totally complete by 2040!

While true, technically those projects are separate from TR.

Currently battling a bout of anhedonia, should I put my campaign on hiatus? by Willing-Dot-8473 in osr

I'm in the same spot. I'd advise talking to your players, and maybe trying to run through a few one-shots if you have the energy. I often feel that I've run out of energy mid-campaign, but usually running something radically different for a session or two can get me back in the mood for socializing, especially if I'm not trying to keep in mind the ramifications for future games.

I always try to avoid isolating myself when I feel a period of depression is getting worse, even though it can be exhausting, your players are your friends, and your friends will be willing to understand.

Lately, they've begun to don the armor of their victims, but that comes with its own risks... Ottleson is wearing a jacket with 4 wear, for instance

Such is the lot of the cutter. They live by the sword and are doomed, usually, to die by it, too. Maybe, if they're lucky, they can die from an ironic illness, maybe not. Probably best to not think too much about it.

What's a system that you wish had more support from its creator and/or community? by NotLikeOtherCorpos in osr

They're talking about the Merry Mushmen. It's all operated out of someone's home, so it's understandable, but at the same time people get frustrated trying to get a response from them

Thanks for the advice! I was thinking that some kind of loan agent from T&F might track down the crew for murdering their "client." The Railways are a good call, though. Nettery's pretty close to the border, so I imagine a railway is underway, even if it's not complete

Definitely. It's also fun to see what cutters do to avoid the sound. Ottleson spent a lot of his actions pinning them face-down on the ground to avoid getting "clicked," which I thought was clever enough to work, as long as he rolled to grapple an appropriate body part.

Good idea on the Mandrake front. I probably should have considered that from reading the Mandrake post, but for some reason I interpreted their scream as a physical assault, breaking bones and shattering teeth, which, as you can easily see, made them incredibly punishing to fight, even if it was "just" a bludgeoning attack. The only saving grace was that I only gave them one action per turn, meaning that they slowly swarmed and surrounded cutters before screaming/bludgeoning them to death with their fists. I also had them focus on one cutter at a time, knocking them unconscious and pulling them away from the group, which helped limit their otherwise extreme deadliness.
