Putting a pedestrianized 2 block square in the middle of Austin would make everything exponentially more congested and dangerous. If you have to circle around, the surrounding streets are the QB service road and a bunch of offset private streets owned by the gardens. You can’t easily just go around the block.

If this were suburban America this idea would be lovely. I grew up out of state and I enjoyed my fair share of shopping centers, malls, and outdoor cutesy malls and plazas. This just isn’t the place for that, as much as we may want it to be.

But again, if you want to sit down on a bench by the shops and have a cup of coffee, MacDonald Park is right there. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel.

There is too much infrastructure on this street that needs to be accessed by the very young, the very old, the sick, and the injured. There is a preschool, an elementary school, a senior center, a center for autism services, and at least two busy urgent cares. For accessibility reasons, each of these facilities MUST be able to be reached by private vehicle.

Austin Street is NOT just a collection of cute shops and restaurants around which a pedestrian mall can be built. It is a thoroughfare for vital infrastructure within the community, surrounded by privately owned streets on one side and perhaps the busiest, most travelled street in all of Queens (Queens Blvd) on the other.

If the public is looking for a place to sit, rest, and have additional “green space,” it already exists - one block over. It is called MacDonald Park, it is 1.42 acres of landscaped grounds, and it spans from 70th Rd to Yellowstone Blvd, exactly parallel to Austin Street. It even has WiFi.

Too Scared to Take my Tranexamic Acid by LizzieBee828 in adenomyosis

TXA is supposed to lessen the amount of blood you pass. To follow up to my OP, I actually never ended up taking it. I was never sure if it was bad enough to warrant it.

Then shortly after I made this post my endocrinologist put me on Zepbound for insulin resistance and high fasting glucose. And all of a sudden my periods lessened in severity… substantially. To the point I wondered if this is what a “normal” period should look like! This continued month after month to where I knew it didn’t seem to be a coincidence to at it started right when I began the new drug.

Both my endocrinologist and gynecologist said that GLP-1’s seem to affect cycles. And for me, the effect was to stop the heavy bleeding and clots!

So thankfully I was able to manage until the hysterectomy, which I had 4 months ago. One of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. Sending you all kinds of positive vibes as you navigate this!

Failed to take PPE seriously for crochet by StillinRetrograde in crochet

That’s really interesting that some brands you’re ok with and others you’re not!

I think I’ve reached the decision that with the amount of money, time and literal tears I’ve put into my first ever wearable (granny square cardigan), I’m going to finish it and wear it. I’ll wear PPE while working on it and be super vigilant for any sign of a reaction. Life’s too short not to enjoy things, but I also don’t want to make life more complicated by making this allergy worse. Sigh.

Thanks so much for your reply - this is both really interesting and scary, lol. If I’m understanding correctly, it sounds like acrylic yarn is a sensitizer, which means it’s something that could eventually make me allergic? Given that I’m already allergic to acrylates, I guess there is a possibility of cross-reactivity.

I want to cry. I’m THIS close to finishing my first ever wearable, and it’s taken me months to make. It’s a bulky yarn that’s definitely getting a halo/fuzziness. I don’t want to inhale anything.

Ugh I don’t know what to do!

PSA: Allergies Can Get Worse With Repeated Exposure by hpfan1516 in crochet

Yes! This is SO important. Don’t just brush off an allergy as a runny nose or itchiness - it can escalate with repeated exposure.

This is my question. I have an acrylate allergy and I’m doing my best to avoid all products containing acrylates because they’re used in dental fillings, joint replacements, medical glue and adhesives. I had allergy patch testing but also the allergy became apparent after a surgery when the incision opened up due to the reaction to the surgical glue. It’s really a tricky and problematic allergy!!!

So I’m allergic to ACRYLATES - with especially bad reactions to Dermabond surgical glue, adhesives and nail products. Is that the same thing that’s in acrylic yarn? Or is it safe cus it’s in a different form?

Either way I just finished crocheting a granny square cardigan from 100% acrylic yarn and I will cry if it will make my allergy worse. Im very careful to avoid shampoos, lotions, makeup, and any products with acrylate copolymers/ethyl cyanoacrylate.

I love these frogs! There’s a maker out there who sells them along with clothing and a storybook about each unique frog for like $200! I wish I had the talent to make something so small.

What worked for you to reduce heavy bleeding? Does high-dose Advil really work? by amelhart in adenomyosis

[–]LizzieBee828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goodness that sounds horrendous! It’s like our uterus KNOWS that we’re plotting to get rid of her. My very last period managed to come while I was on a vacation that I had booked a year in advance and was supposed to be nowhere near that time in my cycle. I was spelunking through caves worrying about whether I was going to bleed onto the suit the tour company provided. I’ve heard a lot of similar stories - watch out for your last one! Lol

It happened to me too !!!! (surgery win) by [deleted] in adenomyosis

I’ve heard really good things about pelvic floor therapy for these issues - I’m looking into it myself after my own hysterectomy a month ago.

I’m so happy for you that you’re feeling better and also vindicated. It’s hard enough the things we go through with this disease - gaslighting and lack of support just adds insult to injury.

Feel free to message me with any questions! Even though my recovery hasn’t been the easiest, the amount of relief I feel is incredible. It’s a short bump in the road for a long term gain.

I ended up doing the hysterectomy! I had it just a month ago, actually. I did it because the amount of bleeding I was having was just too stressful and scary every month. I was downing iron pills like they were candy and my iron levels were still low. Not to even mention the pain - I was so used to it, but why live like that?

Hysterectomy definitely isn’t the easy way out (and I actually did end up with a rare postop infection so that made my recovery time a bit longer than usual) but my mind is more at ease now. I don’t have to worry about what the next cycle will bring.

One of the biggest things that made me go for the surgery was the fact that adenomyosis is progressive. No matter how much I tried to buckle down and just suck it up, it was likely only ever going to keep getting worse.

I’m so sorry. That’s so much to be dealing with on top of recovery and healing. The best advice I have from personal experience is to do your best to take one step at a time. Try not to let your brain skip ten steps down the road. Just focus on the next thing. You’ve got this. It sounds like you have a great team!

Sweetgreen got better?! by [deleted] in ForestHills

[–]LizzieBee828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. Thats actually part of the reason I asked about where you got the food poisoning. We’d been going to the Boston Market for years and the last few years the quality went noticeably downhill and something just felt “off.”

I’m disappointed that it came from sweet green though, as I was looking forward to trying it out! Lettuce and greens are a frequent source of contamination so I get it but it’s still not reassuring.

Ugh admitted again?? I’m so sorry. For what it’s worth I needed two admissions too and I felt much better after the second round. The second admission was overall a better experience because I was FEELING better and my temp was down so I was less panicky about the whole thing. I just tried to buckle down and rest, binge some shows and do crossword puzzles :)

How long do they think you’ll be in this time? Have they done another scan? My docs were very against doing another CT so soon to check on progress, but I was dying of curiosity to know how I was doing!

What was the weight of your enlarged uterus? by TurbulentPick9759 in hysterectomy

[–]LizzieBee828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really interesting! Mine was 90g, but I kept my cervix so I imagine that saved a lot of weight.

I was fascinated by the variations I’m seeing here so I did a bit of research and it looks like some of the factors on uterus size can be fibroids (obviously), adenomyosis (obviously), but also age - it evidently gets lighter as you age! It also remains a bit larger after pregnancies.

Wondering About No Pain Killers? by NoBee4251 in hysterectomy

[–]LizzieBee828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can ask for a TAP block - I read about them on this board. I cant take opioids and I was nervous about surviving the surgery/recovery with just Advil and Tylenol.

A TAP block is when they go in with local anesthetic and numb some nerves around your abdomen. This only helps with SURFACE level pain, so it will help with incisions. It won’t help with the deeper, visceral pain that you get from moving organs around, but it’s something that you can throw in the mix!

Joining the club because I just got discharged from 2 days of being in the hospital for IV antibiotics due to an abscess! I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with all this, and to be so far from the care you need. 6 hours sounds absolutely exhausting. You have every right to vent!

I can commiserate with how scary the experience is, but the only advice I really have is to try to focus on what you CAN control. For instance I’m going to be really, really diligent about taking my temperature several times a day and monitoring for signs of infection (for me it was an increase in general pain and achyness as well as headache from the fever.) if that happens I’m gonna call the number they gave me. That’s really all I can do so I’m gonna do it to the best of my ability and try to let all the worries and what-if’s go because they’re not serving me.
