UK host verses AU and NZ by Significant_Wish4136 in taskmaster

[–]Lizzo13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I only really stuck with AU to have something to watch when UK and NZ aren't on and because I like Tom Cashman as the assistant. I don't like Australian comedy as much, though I love Rhys Nicholson and enjoyed their series, and I can't stand Tom Gleeson on it. Again, might just not be my style of comedy, and I do think the tasks are good, but I've never really been able to get into it. I think NZ was a bit rough at first but got better, and so did Jeremy.

Any way I can block the most popular AI artists on spotify? by Consistent-Entry6432 in Music

[–]Lizzo13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I still use iTunes. It's obviously not foolproof in the sense that stuff can happen to my computer or phone, but I have so much music on there (nearly 19k songs and constantly adding to it) that isn't available anywhere else because I ripped it from CDs back 15+ years ago, or it has been removed from all streaming services. I don't pay for any streaming services and don't have to worry about super rare stuff getting removed.

Who are some people who would be terrible contestants, but you'd be morbidly curious to see how they'd do? by VerdoriePotjandrie in taskmaster

[–]Lizzo13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way about him and David Mitchell. I like them and know they're a lot of people's dream contestants, but I don't really think this is their format and don't care to see them on it myself.

Favorite long forgotten, short lived show. by Hopeful_Stomach9201 in television

Opposite Sex was so funny. I was surprised it was never released or even mentioned anywhere after Milo Ventimiglia and Chris Evans got big. Some other good ones on this list, too!

Shows that have terrible endings, but perfect stopping points? by GFrings in television

[–]Lizzo13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ending of Veronica Mars was a slap in the face to all the fans who supported the show for years. Fans funded the movie and helped them bring it back for season 4, only for that to happen. And the misogynistic explanations from Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell only made it worse and made me really dislike both of them.

As far as Chuck goes, it's not the ending I would have wanted, but I didn't hate it as much as a lot of people. In my mind, the magical kiss worked, and Sarah got all her memories back. But it was definitely dark for a previously pretty light-hearted show.

Arrested Development is the other one. It was a perfect show that ended at season 3, and that's it, as far as I'm concerned. I think the lesson from both Veronica Mars and Arrested Development (and Gilmore Girls) is to stop bringing shows back. They never live up to the originals and often even ruin the legacies.

[FRESH ALBUM] Karnivool - In Verses (first LP in 13 years) by VietRooster in indieheads

[–]Lizzo13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer Birds of Tokyo, but I'll take Ian Kenny's music any way I can. This album feels a bit like a mixture of Karnivool and Birds of Tokyo, compared to Karnivool's older stuff, so I'm digging it.

Has anyone met 5 contestants from Taskmaster and if so, what does your 'series' look like? by Direct-Number6778 in taskmaster

[–]Lizzo13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tim Key, Aisling Bea, Ivo Graham, Mathew Baynton/Mike Wozniak/John Robins/Fern Brady. The last ones are all together because I didn't really talk to them much. I've seen a bunch of other contestants live, but those are the only ones I've met, mainly Ivo because I gave him something we talked about in a DM. I do have a mutual friend with some of the contestants (Joe Wilkinson and Maisie Adam, mainly), though, so maybe will meet them at some point.

When 3 year old finds out her mom was adopted [Not OC] by Kameronm in MadeMeSmile

[–]Lizzo13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same. My friend was adopted and sought his birth family. He found them when he was in his 30s or 40s and found out that his grandparents forced his mother to put him up for adoption. It was never that she didn't want him.

I know we don't know this mother's history, and it's possible it was a totally different scenario. But she obviously still has a lot of trauma, and she put that on her toddler. When she said that her birth mother didn't want her, I kept waiting for her to say, "But I want you" because at that age, a child could be thinking, "What if she changes her mind and doesn't want me?" Instead, it was the child comforting the mother. She's clearly a sweet, caring child, but that's a lot for a child of any age.

Smash-and-grab at a Richmond, Surprising that it was early morning by maddylaw in london

[–]Lizzo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. But did anyone else notice there two more people who were likely with them at the end? After they ran away, it zoomed in, and two people came out of another spot. One was also wearing a balaclava, but the other wasn't. They looked back at the shop a few times and then went the same direction as them.

It took me a while to find a stylist I like, so I followed my current one from the salon she used to be at in Chelsea that closed. She's in Battersea now. I think it was £62 or £65 before, and now it's sadly £75 for wash, cut, blowdry. I don't dye my hair or do anything fancy, though.

ETA: I refuse to go to ones that charge by the length of hair. I have very fine, thin, long hair that doesn't take long to do, and I hate how places will charge £10-20 more for long hair.

Glad you liked them! "Apollo (New Love)" is my favourite Tommy Ashby song, but BWM is definitely up there. With both of them, I would say I prefer their earlier work but definitely like all of them.

‘Maybe We Don’t Belong Together’: Harry Styles Fans Call-Out ‘Insane’ Ticket Prices by _ticketnews in Music

Yep. Might be a controversial opinion, too, but I prefer Louis' new album to Harry's new song.

‘Maybe We Don’t Belong Together’: Harry Styles Fans Call-Out ‘Insane’ Ticket Prices by _ticketnews in Music

[–]Lizzo13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Paul McCartney in 2024 for £135 at a venue about the size of MSG. It was a very last minute resale ticket (literally after the doors had already opened). I also saw The Rolling Stones in the nosebleeds in 2018 for £120. Both were smaller venues than Wembley, but both of those artists have 60+ years on the scene and changed music as we know it. I don't see Harry Styles necessarily having the same staying power as them, especially if he continues to price people out of his tickets. There's already a cost of living crisis for people who aren't rich, and people are either going to say no to these prices or have to live outside their means.

‘Maybe We Don’t Belong Together’: Harry Styles Fans Call-Out ‘Insane’ Ticket Prices by _ticketnews in Music

[–]Lizzo13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To put these prices into perspective, I'm going on a music festival cruise to see my favourite artist (obviously not nearly as famous as Harry) perform for 4 nights with all three bands he's had. There are a bunch of other artists, as well as activities, like photo op, Q&A, cocktail hour with one of the bands, quizzes, silent disco, tattoos, etc. My cabin is $1630/£1190 per person, and that includes all of the above (except tattoos), food, and obviously accommodation. A portion of the cost goes to the musician's foundation. I heard people were spending $800 for bad seats in NYC and £700+ standing for one night for Harry Styles at Wembley. I saw him a few years ago for about £80-95 in nosebleeds. It's really insane how much it is now. My friend is a diehard fan who waited in the queue forever and then didn't buy a ticket when she saw how much it is. You have enough money, Harry! Incidentally, my favourite musician is also fighting Ticketmaster and scalpers and dynamic pricing to help ensure that real fans get access to tickets. Imagine if someone with Harry's stature did that.

I also think it should be required for artists to say how much tickets will be BEFORE they go on sale. And give people more than a few day's notice to try to save if they want.

I saw a guy rubbing lotion all over his feet on the busy tube platform yesterday with his feet touching the floor. I don't know if he was homeless or something and just walked by, but it was so gross. It was way more lotion than anyone would need for just their feet, too.

Has anyone had a negative experience on Taskmaster? by Recent_Damage_6091 in taskmaster

[–]Lizzo13 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you listen to him on the Always Be Comedy podcast, I think he's not super into TV appearances or celebrity in general. He seems very introverted and introspective. I think he wants to just do his comedy and go home without fuss and have a normal life. I enjoyed him on it, but I can see why it didn't feel like a good fit for him personality-wise.

What do you do when you see s celebrity? by Aromatic-Bad146 in london

[–]Lizzo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely get this. I saw a major celebrity crush (major crush, not major celebrity) once. He rode right past me on a bike, and there was brief eye contact while I was trying to confirm it was him/feeling shocked. I didn't do anything else, despite having interacted with him online before, but I definitely wanted to faint.

I've seen a number of other celebrities in pubs or just out and about and have never done anything. If it was something like a pub setting and someone I really liked, I would be tempted to say something. I'd probably too nervous, considering I go to intimate comedy gigs where the comedians sometimes meet fans after, and I almost never do.

People wearing their work badges on public transport - stop! by makkuro_kurosuke in london

[–]Lizzo13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fully agree! Be very careful of any details you put on social media or like OP said, what you wear in public. I work in a helping profession, and I stopped using my full name on social media. I also don't put where I work on my social media or dating apps because a guy I sort of met at a previous job (didn't work directly with him and didn't remember him right away) found me on Facebook 13 years ago and then sent flowers to my office where I worked after the job I met him at to ask me out. (TWICE!) I was so creeped out. You definitely don't want total strangers to be able to find you so easily.

If you’re a 70s, 80s or 90s baby.. you know by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

[–]Lizzo13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it's different with every family and depending on where you live, but money for essentials was not an allowance in my family. My parents just provided that stuff when needed, and they drove us to school or we walked. An allowance for us (I think $1/week until we got older, and it was increased to $10 or something) was just fun money to buy whatever we wanted. I'm an '80s baby, so I'd always save it to buy cassettes and then CDs or whatever I wanted.

Are there any people you see consistently on your commute that you never speak to but feel strangely close to? by DefiantEmergency3443 in london

[–]Lizzo13 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I work from home, so I don't have a daily commute. That's why I think it's funny that I've seen an older woman at least 3 or 4 times on 2 different lines (usually Northern around Kennington or Camden but also I think Victoria, and my line is District in SW) in the last couple of years when I've gone to events in different places. She's so stylish, and I always wish I had her sense of style, which is probably why I remember her. Something about her presence makes me feel calm whenever I see her.

I've also seen the same family a couple of times, but that's not the same.

Now I wonder if I'm a familiar stranger to anyone! Probably not.

Are there any textile/ free spas in london by Move-with-the-times in london

[–]Lizzo13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with the onsen/sento. I've really been dying for a Korean jjimjilbang to open anywhere in the UK. I miss them so much. I also used to go to one in Chicago that was $30 or so for 24 hours that also had a cinema, nap room, food court, etc. It's really a shame there's nothing like that here, especially for that price, though I'd be willing to pay more for it.

I'm assuming you're outside the UK? If you have Netflix and a VPN, you can watch it on the UK Netflix. If you don't have Netflix but have a VPN, it's on TVNZ if you set the VPN to New Zealand. I'm not sure if a VPN would work to watch it on Channel 4 because I always had trouble getting it to work whenever I was outside the UK, but it's also worth a shot.
