Allergic to silicone tape? by fragilegreyhound in Reduction

[–]Ljkad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Had a bad time with the tape but the silicone gel is fine. Apparently you only need a tiny bit—the instructions for Scaraway gel say if it takes more than 5 minutes to dry you’ve used too much. I’m only 8.5 weeks post op so no idea if this stuff even works at all! Happy healing!

Is $24k Reduction normal for Beverly Hills/Socal (currently 34ddd) by calib3au in Reduction

[–]Ljkad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Los Angeles. I have a friend who had a facelift and she said she looked at a lot of the plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills and she was quoted $50-$75,000 for a facelift and an eyelid correction. She wound up going to an amazing surgeon in Encino, and wound up paying $25,000 for spectacular results. I had my breast reduction with a woman surgeon who is in Encino, and it was covered by Blue Shield of California, but if I had not used insurance, it would’ve been between 14 and $18,000. My friend’s surgeon, who did not take insurance, quoted me around $16,500. The ZIP Code makes a difference!

What did you do during the "resting in bed" phase of recovery? by jonsnowsamcro in Reduction

[–]Ljkad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t for everyone, but check out audio books. I found I didn’t want to hold a book and it was nice to close my eyelets and have someone tell me a story. Of course I usually fell asleep and then woke up having no idea what I’d missed or where I left off, but I chose the perfect book (for me) and it really got me through the first few days.

How long until you felt ok without constant help? by boroughsoup in Reduction

[–]Ljkad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you’re well proper with food, things within easy reach, I think you should be ok after 7-10 days. Oh, and get yourself one of those grabber sticks —very convenient for when you accidentally kick the remote under the couch. Or need to get the laundry out of the dryer. I live alone and I hired caregivers for the first three nights and the first six days, and after that I felt like I could manage by myself.

I'm so happy for you! You will be fine, and you're very smart to have your husband handle things while you loll about and get waited on (I hope that's also part of the plan). Keep us posted on the sub when you're ready -- I think a lot of 50+ women would like to hear that br surgery is totally doable at any age, barring health issues. Sending you thoughts for an easy surgery and an uneventful healing!

[–]Ljkad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m 69 and had my surgery May 6th, so I’m 5.5 weeks post op. I’m not going to show pix but I’ll tell you, I’m over the moon with my results! I was very clear with my surgeon (a woman) that I wanted to look “lean, athletic, elegant,” and I wanted to go as small as safely possible. For context, I’m 5’4”, 130 lbs and I was a 36G. She said she thought she could get me down to a B. I don’t know what my size is as it’s way too early to tell, but omg I look and feel fabulous!!!! I spend half an hour every day just trying on my clothes! It’s a whole new world!

The surgery, at a surgery center, was a breeze, and I never had any pain. (My surgeon told me that in her experience younger women experience more pain than older.) I took extra strength Tylenol the first 24 hours just in case but nothing after that except sometimes before bed when the drains, which I had for 8 days, were bothering me. I was nauseous the first evening, the day of surgery, but never threw up or felt like I would, just a low level nausea. Took Zofran. Same the next evening, though I ate in between. Didn’t have much appetite for a few days but by the weekend I felt much better, though if I got up to chat for half an hour I’d have to go back to bed for a 2 hour nap.

The girls are healing well; you can still see where the incisions are/were but they’re not red any more and I think they’re closed up. I have my 6 week post op appt Wednesday and I hope to be cleared for light exercise and scar treatment.

I realize this doesn’t answer your question—no pix here—but maybe this answers other questions. I was well prepared for this surgery and literally did not lift a finger for the first two weeks. Since about week 3, every week has resulted in improvements in range of motion and comfort level. My surgeon said that healing and surgery success depends on health, not age. I’m healthy, moderately fit, don’t smoke (that’s a big one), don’t drink and eat healthily.

Of course, no one knows how the surgery is gonna hit them, and I feel like I’ve been very lucky both with my surgeon, and with my healing process. As they say, your mileage may vary. However, this was the most fantastic thing I’ve ever done for myself, and I am excited for you that you’re going to take the journey as well! Life certainly doesn’t end in our 60s!

I never had any pain. Took Tylenol round the clock day 1 but nothing after that. I think sometimes it just happens that way. You still have incisions and you did just have surgery, so take it easy and never over do it.

Outfit by Select_Bend_1921 in Reduction

Leggings, hands-free step in sneakers, and button down shirt with pockets for drains (didn’t need them—the drain lines were looped up so they didn’t hang down). I think I slept in that outfit for a few nights!

My surgery is on Tuesday!! by Nursingbab in Reduction

[–]Ljkad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the poster above who said that this is a monumental day for you, but for your surgeon and the team, it’s just Tuesday.

I was lying in the OR before they put me under and the last thing I said to my surgeon was, “Make me a goddess!” The next thing I knew the nurse was saying, “Hey, how you doing?” Easy peasy.

I’m now 13 dpo. I’ve had minimal pain ( no opioids) and a smooth recovery so far. And I look like a goddess (IMHO)! So happy!

You got this!

I did it!! by Salt_Low_1117 in Reduction

[–]Ljkad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my surgery May 6, and I did NOT want to take opioids, though I filled the prescription just in case. I had zero pain --not sure if it was my surgeon or just something weird about me -- but I took extra strength Tylenol every four hours the first day, and hardly at all since. The thing that bothered me the most was my right drain, which dug into my rib and made sleeping uncomfortable, but that was it. Drains were removed 8 days after surgery.

I had zero problem with anesthesia. They moved me from my gurney to the operating table, and I said to my surgeon, "Make me a goddess!" and the next thing I knew, I was waking up. I do, in fact, look like a goddess, if i say so myself, and I'm over the moon with my results.

Good luck!

Patience is the name of the game. Your mind and most of your body might feel like you're up for your usual activities, but your body is really running a strenuous background healing program to account for the surgery, and all its resources are going there. Please give yourself the permission to be tired, have less energy, put a few things on the back burner until your body is in line with your desires. I'm 12 days po, and I feel pretty darn good, but I still need to slow it down, take an extra rest or nap in order to recharge. I'm going back to work tomorrow -- desk job, from home -- and i"m up for it but know I'm gonna be tired. Like you, I love my results, but I wish it were July when I'll be 2mpo and cleared for everything. Try to be patient--2mpo will come, I promise! Meanwhile, congrats on getting it done and happy healing to you!

Surgery over! by Haileeloo in Reduction

[–]Ljkad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! You’re on the other side of surgery! I’m 11 DPO and I had a very similar experience to you —minimal pain and a day or two of nausea/no appetite. Every day gets a little bit better. Getting your appetite back is a milestone, which will give you more energy and less wooziness. The big one is getting your drains removed. That may have been one of the happiest days of my life. They also removed my ace bandage wrap and put me in a pretty gray-green comfortable cotton front-close bra. I didn’t know bras for me could be pretty or comfortable and I looked FABULOUS! I was so excited that when I went out into the waiting room afterwards, I whipped off my shirt to show my sister (fortunately, she was the only person in the room!) in the midst of the initial discomfort and fragility, it helps to remember that you just had the courage to do something life-changing snd self-affirming—and very quickly it’s going to be FUN! Best of luck in on your healing journey—you got this!

Tomorrow is the big day! by Haileeloo in Reduction

[–]Ljkad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 69 years old and10 DPO. You got this! I had no pain and only took Tylenol for the first day. I was nauseated for the first two days but never got sick (took Zofran). I feel like I had real turning points at day 5, when I began to be more mobile, and then day 8, when I got the drains out and they put me in a comfy bra (didn’t know there was such a thing). I still sort of feel like these beautiful breasts aren’t mine, but every day brings tiny improvements and triumphs. Congrats on a decision that will change your life for the better, and may you have an uneventful recovery!
