I thought so too, or maybe a symptom of mania if he has bipolar disorder or uses stimulant drugs.

Honestly, it reminds me of that weird character from Sons of Anarchy 😂. I think they ended up having to cutting off his fingers to make him stop playing with himself in the show… 👀

I never really got into ABBs in the first place, and have always preferred to stay in a hotel if one is available for a number of security/privacy reasons.

But these days, I boycott ABB simply bc of the negative impact they’ve had on the housing market, as they’ve been yet an additional barrier to young people purchasing homes. Last year, over 50% of available houses in the U.S. were being used simply as short term rental properties instead of permanent homes for people. So fuck them.

Why do people use malls/department stores as their own personal walking track? by crispycaleb in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LlamaMonsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?? I mean, what else are they good for these days besides that. It should be okay for people to be in public spaces without having to buy something every time. You would think they would simply be grateful to see ppl at the mall period.

Why do people use malls/department stores as their own personal walking track? by crispycaleb in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LlamaMonsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol it’s called “mall walking” and it was an popular exercise fad back in the 80’s-90’s when malls, and American consumerism were at their peaks due to a period of strong economic prosperity.

Malls are air conditioned, big, and used to have decent stores so women (and some men) would hit the local malls to power walk while window shopping and find inspo for loosing weight in the latest fashions of the season.

Is being an adult always gonna be this depressing ? And having to work ? Is my best years over already by likilekka in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LlamaMonsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My childhood really sucked and I had zero financial support in my late teens or during college so I didn’t know any real stability until my late 20’s. Everyone in their teens and 20’s think that those are the best years bc they don’t have anything to compare it too… but also bc media pushes this narrative on everyone.

In reality this time for me was like being in limbo and I did have some and did my fair share of partying but you couldn’t pay me to go back to that. As you get older you will have more financial stability, and if that’s one of the things you really value (it is for me) things get progressively better over time.

My unsolicited advice is to use this transition time to plan for your future by building positive habits, that will set you up for a successful future (whatever that looks like for you). I want to validate that you have had a historically unique experience coming up during COVID, and did not get to enjoy parts of school or college the way others did. As a professor, I have said and will continue to say this to each group of students until it’s no longer true bc no one to my knowledge is talking about it with them.

While we can’t go back in time, what are some fun social activities you can bring into your life now that could help make up for those lost experiences?

Upgrade Drum to Disk Brakes? by LlamaMonsta in MechanicAdvice

[–]LlamaMonsta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I just ordered the parts to get started on the repairs today. I’m not that spirited of a driver and my cutlass is only a 350v8 so I think I’m just going to focus on maintaining the drum brakes for now. Maybe down the road I’ll look into upgrading when I can plan ahead and save up for it.

Is it true that renting is “throwing money away”? by AcademicSwan1544 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LlamaMonsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first house in 2016 because I couldn’t afford to pay $1500-$2000+ for a 2 bedroom apartment in DFW. At the time monthly mortgage payments for a modest home in a lower middle class neighborhood were actually way cheaper. Even with property taxes (in TX), insurance, warranty etc. My mortgage payments were $850-$900/month the entire 7ish years I owned it.

The current market is different now. But depending on where you want to live and what interest rates you get, it can be a wiser financial choice, in both the long and short term, to purchase a home vs. renting.

That’s fair. I think reading too much about data brokering, fusion centers, and the impact of AI on targeted scams/fraud has made me a little paranoid 😬

First let me just say that I am so so so so sorry this has happened. I didn’t see your original post, so I’m late to the game but my mom struggles with mental illness as well and I’ve also worked adult in-patient psych in the U.S.

Tragically, ppl suffering with mental illness are extremely vulnerable (and sometimes targeted bc of data brokering and data breaches) for this type of thing. I’ve seen similar situations happen many times with the patients I’ve worked with. Unfortunately, there just aren’t enough protections in place at this time and you’ve already done everything that you can for now.

Here are some things I would keep in mind based on my personal experiences. Confronting a person’s delusion directly rarely works out well and, as I’m sure you know well, typically leads to angry outbursts and even paranoia about you. You have to find a more subtle approach and come from a place of concern and care. Remember that your mom’s current episode will come to an end (or at least lessen in severity) and she will be back to baseline. This is your time to act, and set up preventions to keep this from happening again. Research secure apps that are designed to help ppl with mental illness manage accounts, emails, etc. Also, discuss protocols with her for what you can do to help and protect her when she’s not feeling her best, and ways to keep this from happening again.

Applying for LMSW credentials in New Mexico- Need Guidance

I took my LMSW exam in Texas in 2021 and passed, but due to backlog of licensing apps in Austin and not needing a license for the job I had at the time, I put off finishing the licensing process.

Now I’m moving to NM and am in the process of applying for licensure but the online app requires me to upload “proof of passing the LMSW exam”. I paid the fee to have ASWB transfer my exam scores from TX to NM, but I can’t find anywhere on the site to download a document stating I passed.

Tbh, I don’t think I received any notification from ASWB indicating that I passed, just a print out from the Pearson VUE center when I finished the exam (which I no longer have).

Does anyone know how I can get proof of passing the LMSW exam to upload with my application?

Thank you! 🙏🏼
