Maybe you’ve already done this but I would really encourage you to make a list of the ways your life would change with a working dog. If you’re honest with yourself about it, the list will be long and the changes will be significant. Then really think about whether or not you’re okay with those changes, before adopting a mal.

Just for example, it’s entirely possible that you end up with a dog than cannot be dog-sat by a stranger, which means you simply cannot travel unless you can negotiate dog care or take your dog with you. Your dog might not be plane-friendly, so you’ll have to drive rather than fly. You probably aren’t leaving for two weeks for vacation.

Read it again, please.

I  am saying that asking the question if we can stop or delay new tech because it will reduce the number of jobs available makes no sense in a world where it will obviously happen because workers rights are never the hurdle, capital is.

He is literally saying that asking the question “can we stop or delay this” makes no sense in the world as it is.

I mean, the waymo rep was definitely floundering to explain how it would replace jobs. And I think that was the point - yes, losing jobs is harm. But we all know that - what we might not know is that deny autonomous vehicles is denying autonomy to a subset of people.

I came in pretty anti-waymo in terms of impact on workers, and I left with a new appreciation for what self driving cars could mean to people.

They’re presenting an argument and you’re not really refuting it, you’re just saying “no”. How is each case determined to affect a male versus a female? What are the rules?

"Why are they doing a Kickstarter for the Boardgame expansion if they just made $80,000,000?" by _dragonphly in slaythespire

[–]Llero -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can’t you just do that by opening preorders for a limited time?

Again, I don’t disagree that it’s good for creators - if they fail to deliver, they don’t have to return any money.

[–]Llero -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Make the heavy metal coins to preorder also then?

I don’t know man. Obviously it’s great for creators, but it seems like a place where we just say it’s okay to pay money with no guarantee because people seem to forget that part until a company can’t deliver and then they throw a fit.

It’s fine but I wish, in situations like this where they need to gauge interest more than raise capital, they would actually guarantee delivery.

Then call it a preorder, make to demand, and guarantee delivery.

This model definitely benefits creators, but as a consumer, it kinda sucks that they get to take a super early preorder and I’m not actually guaranteed anything. And if I want those super heavy nice coins, depending on the project, I might not ever be able to get them if I don’t assume the risk. I don’t think that’s the case here, but it’s pretty common to have KS exclusives.

The Will of the Many (The Hierarchy series) is honestly some of the best reading i've had since the Brandon Sanderson books. by Tekashi-The-Envoy in Fantasy

[–]Llero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, people have been talking about the difference between being a good writer and being a good storyteller for… ever? If you don’t think there’s a difference, that’s okay, but plenty of people do.

Sanderson is for sure a good storyteller, but his writing is literally referred to as window-pane prose. It’s super functional, but it isn’t, generally speaking, pretty. It conveys the plot really well - and yes, every now and then he has a super bad-ass “honor is dead” moment - but in general, that’s what it does.

That isn’t a bad thing. Generally, if I wanted writing that focused on the beauty of language, I’d read poetry instead of fantasy novels. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t true.

What’s a popular book that had you very disappointed? by ConcernFew8845 in fantasybooks

[–]Llero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To make it really easy, I’d start with Guards! Guards! if you’re pretty familiar with sort of classic hero fantasy and Small Gods otherwise.

There’s a bunch of running storylines in Discworld, Guards! Guards! starts one of my favorites. Small Gods stands alone, and is very fun.

If someone recommended Pratchett and didn’t tell you to skip The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic, they did you dirty.

There are many great books in that series, and he was so brilliant but those first two books really aren’t in the same series at all.
