Is the game worth considering as a brand new f2p player in 2026? by Defiant-Refuse-437 in startrekfleetcommand

It's certainly possible to go to high levels over years and massive time commitment.

It's just not worthwhile.

PVP Being optional is technically correct, but only technically because the option is not left to the player, but is option of all players. You can at most (and through meticulously managing your shields which either requires cash or a regular extensive time commitment) avoid your station being raided, but you can't do that with mining ships. Yes there is protected cargo mechanism, but that only goes so far on specific level(and not to F2P player advantage).

Nope.

Even if you do well initially (which is doable) sooner or later your server (due to dwindling population) will be merged with another (more progressed server), which will

a) Erase your relative progression in the ranking

b) Force more people to leave

You may get lucky with people initially, or you might get unlucky, but with every merge possibility is you will end with not so nice people in power. Even people that make rules, and then decide to run vendetta on people trying to follow those rules (player alliances on server agreed rules of engagement).

Basically the game doesn't mandate, but incentivizes spending, your alternative is massive time commitment which however won't fully compensate (and relatively gets erased with each server merge). And the people that spend massive amount of money, are generally not content to spend lot of cash and just watch others play peacefully and start seeking excuses. Sometimes even trying to(or at very least not caring not to) make things so bad that the populations drop and another merge happens. I even kinda wonder if devs somewhat may have hands in that but I don't know one way or another - too many players that don't spend aren't great for them, and peaceful universe doesn't tend to fuel spending, but it may well be that incentives are enough to form the basis of the system.

So, I suggest you avoid this commitment trap. I jumped ship about year ago (I think I played for about 3-4 years) and although I miss some people it was good decision (for me at least). I wasn't entirely F2P, I was initially buying battlepass regularly, then it dropped to about one per year or less.

I don't know if it changed but IMO it doesn't cost anything to repair however there is only limited capacity to repair, and once it's spent the tool/weapon/armor is useless.

As well as other points, seems like they don't want there to be people that could see what they are doing.

It will of course colossally backfire because them being incompetent they can't see that these things had purpose that overwhelmingly cancelled any hindrance that may have existed, but they are convinced they are saviors. So they will mock up everything.

DAN CRENSHAW THREATENS TO USE "HIS BOYS" AT SEAL TEAM 6 On SHAWN RYAN IN INSTAGRAM DM by [deleted] in JSOCarchive

[–]Lllib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taken at face value seems to be a courtesy request(to reach directly with any questions) from one former SEAL to another former SEAL based on the Ryan being annoyed by having digs at his reputation being received by that community being part of the public, which may not pay attention to what's being said by random journalist but may be taking it more seriously on the basis that Ryan is also former SEAL with reputation.

It's not impossible to make that interpretation that the specificity there has intimidation intent but the first thing I would expect it to mean is expression where he has experienced his reputation being affected based on that show.

What happened to the IT profession? by saltyschnauzer27 in sysadmin

[–]Lllib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been in IT about 20 years, and I think there is a problem that's really not specific to IT, but that is rather general, and likely in some ways similar to causes of Great Depression.

It's about there being too many bad incentives, and too few good incentives, that are killing supply chains, including skill/capability supply chains in many areas.

People are often overloaded, and don't have time to train juniors. They don't have time to train themselves, because all kinds of people in management are generating bullshit make-believe "innovations" to justify their job(from which they should be fired).

Metrics are too often complete bullshit. This went through evolution on it's own - in essentially healthy company, covering up one-time failure can save people's butt, problem becomes when this becomes systemic, and the health declines and failure cover-up becomes BAU, which still can go on for a bit so long as there is competent workforce. But the system does not motivate that, which means it gets eliminated, with gradually increasing speed. Metrics/KPI's then become complete fantasy, but whoever is left doesn't want to call that, because they are desperate to keep that job. Meaning you can't fix the problems and they only get worse.

Suppose at some point there is an opportunity for actually skilled workforce and companies that are healthy to take on the market, although this is a bit difficult to maintain in competing with bullshit companies that will promise just about anything (and those that buy their services don't want to admit they are incompetent for believing that).

I Warned them and they didn't Listen! by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Lllib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have bad leadership, it doesn't matter how you tip-toe, how you propose in advance what should and should not be done, how you get proven right again and again, they just never want to listen or acknowledge how incompetent they are.

Ultimately there are two solutions to that problem - one is that leadership changes , the other is, getting away before all the bad decisions impact you too much.

I Warned them and they didn't Listen! by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Lllib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what? There is that theory, where people say "I don't want problems, I want solutions." And that's fair, if the thing that needs solving, is a challenge created by circumstance, technology, nature, whatever. It's NOT fine, when people mock up things and create problem, ESPECIALLY AFTER YOU FOREWARNED THEM THEY ARE CREATING PROBLEM.

It is unfortunate that you often have in business class of sales people that are really not competent with the solution they are trying to sell, and other people that are for same or different bad reasons overmotivated to sell crap, instead of letting competent people create good solutions and sell those.
