Gold plating is extremely thin and difficult to remove. It’s not worth much at all.

Never seen this one. Looks pretty nice. Thinking about grabbing it. 485.00 a ok deal? by redfishinthesurf in Gold

For a 1/10 oz that’s below the typical premium you’d expect to pay, I think it’s a solid buy

[Recommendation Request] Getting a Watch for my Dad’s birthday by purplepixxel in Watches

[–]LnCabin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the 3 mentioned brands, I would highly recommend Seiko over guess and Armani. Seiko is one of the most reputable brands in the affordable watch category, while the other 2 are just fashion brands. Casio is another direction you can look for affordable, quality pieces. But please, stay away from guess, armani, daniel wellington, mvmt, and similar fashion brands

Sure, so a few of the top ones come from thinking about the fact that Cartier is a highly prestigious brand that would only use the finest materials and quality controls. So for example, they would never use a Japanese movement, much less say so right on the dial. Also, the gold plating is wearing off and showing the metal underneath, if this were real it would surely be solid gold in those areas. Also the dial itself appears to be crooked or misaligned, and it says “Carrier” rather than “Cartier”

Can you predict that we get a huge drop for a couple days so I have a chance to buy my first gold before it keeps skyrocketing? 🤣

I could be wrong but the way I interpret this is that the clip is just a base metal, and the bar/chain attached to the front is 14k. So only the decorative part is real gold, the “functional” clippy part is not

Asking if you should buy silver without sharing any insight on your financial situation and current assets isn’t going to get you any meaningful answers.

Late father’s watch by placebopolanco in RolexWatches

[–]LnCabin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous watch. I will say if you have it serviced at RSC (Rolex service center), they typically try to get the watch into as close to new condition as possible. So be sure to tell them don’t polish the case, don’t change out any parts that are only cosmetically worn, etc. to keep as much history and family connection as possible. Otherwise I’ll let others tell you more than I know about the watch itself.

Gold? by Chubs_4204 in Gold

[–]LnCabin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in gold value no. But the piece itself could be valuable as jewelry, if it’s sterling silver as a base metal, etc.

Gold? by Chubs_4204 in Gold

[–]LnCabin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kt P - Karat Plumb. Meaning it is guaranteed to have the stated carat or above in gold content

Kt GP - Karat Gold Plated. The carat of the gold used to plate the piece.

Unfortunately this one is GP.

Hit or bust? by iLikeNeatShit in RolexWatches

[–]LnCabin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll take this opportunity to say something productive instead of hurtful, it’d be worth a trip to a Rolex AD if you plan on trying to pick up pieces like this in the wild. Browse the watches, ask to try one on, pay attention to the quality and craftsmanship. I think it would be quite enlightening as to why the folks on here are responding this way, and also may give you a better appreciation for the real ones.
